2-5 June next year.

Starts with Trooping the Colour

Then beacons lit, A service of thanksgiving, big concert 'Platinum Party at the Palace' plus HMQ going to The Derby, plus Big Jubilee Lunch on Sunday (street parties?) and a pageant

(Even if you're not interested in this stuff, might be worth noting the extra holiday now).

Next bit of the plans have been announced

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-57653812

"Marching bands, troops and veterans and a giant dragon puppet will all feature in a spectacular street pageant for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee next June.
The parade on The Mall near Buckingham Palace will cap four days of events marking the Queen's 70-year reign.
Participants will come from across the UK and Commonwealth"

Pudding contest - any MN bakers going to enter?

I would like to see the giant dragon puppet.

WinnieTheW0rm · 10/01/2022 17:05

That BBC article seems to be hinting that HMQ might not take part herself in everything as originally planned

I wonder if that's deliberate expectation management or if it's just a reporter over egging a 'will be confirmed nearer the time'

upinaballoon · 10/01/2022 17:33

Does that mean she won't be playing a guitar on the roof of Buck House? Grin

RoyalFamilyFan · 10/01/2022 18:11

@WinnieTheW0rm I wonder if they are wondering if she will be well enough?
@WinnieTheW0rm I wonder if they are wondering if she will be well enough?
They may well be.

In previous years the family would have been at Sandringham until after 6 Feb (anniversary of the death of George VI) so we don't usually expect them to be doing much in January, and it's also normal to publicise attendances only just beforehand (security reasons)

So it's a bit difficult to know what's what this year

Devonmaid7292 · 12/01/2022 14:55

I'll be working!! It would be ok if we got paid extra for bank Holidays but we don't.

Viviennemary · 12/01/2022 15:01

Four days of celebrating a family of the greediest folk on the planet. Count me out.

AllThePogs · 12/01/2022 20:59

It will be happening while Andrew's trial is taking place probably. I wonder if we can watch it on live stream?

SalsaLove · 12/01/2022 21:01

I read where it’s been suggested that the winner of the Jubilee pudding contest should be an Eton Mess because that’s what the government is… 😆

Viviennemary · 18/01/2022 19:27

I'm sick hearing about it already. Now they are saying Andrew and Harry will get jubilee medals after saying they wouldn't be. A medal for what.

JenniferAllisonPhillipaSue · 18/01/2022 19:32

We've booked to be in a tent, in the countryside, over that long weekend. Away from any of the hype, I hope.

Mamamia7962 · 18/01/2022 19:36

AllThePogs - I'm sure I read that his trial wouldn't be until October.

I work in healthcare so all the extra bank holiday means is a wee bit more money in the bank, because I'll almost certainly be working.

I hope the Queen is well enough to take part in some of the activities.

upinaballoon · 18/01/2022 22:12

I'm hoping that I also will be still alive and well enough to take part in some of the activities, e.g. buying a new mug, curtseying 70 times to the picture of the Queen which hangs in the hall. I'm going to start growing a forelock in April so that I can tug it a lot of times in June.
It's good for human beings to have something to look forward to - keeps our peckers up.

Article from Vogue about what's planned

www.vogue.co.uk/arts-and-lifestyle/article/platinum-jubilee-2022

Fourth longest reign of any monarch in the world ever.

In 3rd place is Johann II of Liechtenstein (70 years 90 days) and 2nd Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand (70'years 126 days) both of which might be surpassed over the course of the year.

But still a while to go to equal that of Louis XIV of France (72 years 110 days)

Who would you rather have - a leftie Labour person such as the ghastly Angela Rayner as our head of state?

Oh do give over 🤣😂

I might be reading too much in to thus, but the only ones which it explicitly says the Queen will be attending are a balcony appearance on 2 June, and The Derby on 4 June

A medal for what.. From what I read it’s more of a commemorative medal than anything. Not an award as such.

...and if she's got mobility "issues" with the balcony she can always give that the go-by. The important thing is the Derby.Grin She knows her priorities.
EdithWeston · 14/04/2022 22:32

The balcony is surely an easy bit - she moves around the Palace in private and then has only paces to go and stand a wave for a bit. There could be all sorts of discreet buttressing

What I found interesting it that the language of who will be taking the Salute at Trooping the Colour. It just mentions Royal salute and parade back. Nonacomittal - easy to think they do mean the Queen as she's mentioned in the next sentence re balcony, but she isn't specifically mentioned for that part.
So she may well miss all that - when she last do a full London one? Haven't the last couple been scaled back versions at Windsor?

OP posts:
upinaballoon · 15/04/2022 13:53

She did the scaled back Trooping in 21 and 20 because of Covid so I think she did the full one in 2019, albeit from the dais, because she hasn't ridden a horse at TTOTC for several years.

Yes, the words 'Royal Salute' leave it nicely open for the circumstances of the moment, although I wouldn't put big money on it being the Duchess of York who takes the salute. Stop, it's getting silly.....................

EdithWeston · 15/04/2022 15:13

She last rode Burma at the Trooping of the Colour in 1986. When the horse retired, the Queen decided to move to a carriage instead.

I hope the 4th plinth in Trafalgar Square is eventually used for the official central London statue of the Queen (convention means this would be after her death). The shape of the plinth is right for an equestrian statue, so HMQ sidesaddle on Burma would be my choice!

The Queen has done every Trooping the Colour of her reign (except 1955, when there wasn't one), so if she can't manage the ceremony this time, then it'll have to be Charlie boy.

What she needs is a Lizzie-mobile (modelled on the Popemobiie) but drawn by horses, and giving her the ergonomically perfect position to be able to attend events. Plus a secret shelf for a corgi or two to stroke during the dull bits.
