Obviously this is all rumour and speculation, but I thought it was interesting.

I can see all the reasons why William might want Zara involved in the future- although I know she's said in the past she's glad not to be a HRH or titled.

But if true, this suggests that Andrew's family are pretty much on the out when the Queen dies? Which is interesting?

Personally, I can't see this actually working out the way the article suggested, but it's interesting such articles are even being floated, I think?

Forestiere I think it’s anything that’s mentioned in the Court Circular that counts as an official engagement and I think the hospital/charity calls usually are mentioned.

Forestiere · 22/04/2021 08:35

SirDidymus
Thank you. That article made me smile, especially the last line about the 'hardworking Royals!'

ChessieFL · 22/04/2021 08:35

I love that the Women and Home report states that Anne worked for a ‘staggering’ 145 days in the year! Hardly a staggering number of days generally, although it is pretty good considering she’s 70.

Charles travelled with symptoms. www.thetimes.co.uk/article/charles-criticised-for-carrying-coronavirus-to-scottish-retreat-cjrstsxjj

Kate has been kicking off since Megxit because she's uber workshy. Still, you know, you reap what you sow and all that.

They could just, you know, stop shaking hands and opening things? Buildings etc can be opened with a royal being there. Charities can have actually qualified people as their patrons.

None of the "work" the Royals do needs to be done. They don't need new bodies to fill the seats, they can just remove the seats.

without a royal being there

nomegustanlasmontanas · 22/04/2021 08:41

Surely it could be argued that raising the next generation of royals is work in itself. The Queen and Prince Philip were away on so many engagements when their kids were growing up they barely saw them most of the time from what I've read. And look how that turned out for some of them! Maybe devoting time to your kids who are the future of the monarchy should be praised?

They have very full days, going to different places in the country, eg one visit in the morning, somewhere else lunch time, another place in the afternoon. Evenings too. I certainly couldn't cope with all that travelling, I'd be worn out in five minutes!
JustLyra · 22/04/2021 08:45

The younger royals, like William and Kate, were always going to do a lighter load until the Queen and Philip started easing off. As they eased off the younger ones picked up their engagements. If they had a full quota already they wouldn’t have gathered up any of the handed on ones.

It’s the way it’s always worked, it’s just been more extreme because the Queen started full time so young and has lived so long, which meant William and Harry could have more freedom for longer.

If they hadn’t lost Andrew, Harry and Meghan from the fold it would have all just passed on seamlessly. They’d have covered 900 engagements a year minimum between them, likely more by the time Harry and Meghan s children were older.

Billandben444 · 22/04/2021 08:48

@goodbyestranger
(By which I mean the petty mean girl jealousy of Meghan on the basis of being far, far less bright and far, far less attractive).

OK, I'll bite.
We've no idea whether Catherine is jealous of Meghan or not - as her husband will eventually be King I think it's unlikely.
(You're up there in the mean girl stakes)

Yes we do know. Kate was jealous, end of. With very good reason smile

Oh god, are you one of those nutjobs who thinks they know secrets about celebs (that they read in gossip rags) and talks about them as if they know them?
You can get help for that you know.

goodbyestranger · 22/04/2021 08:53

No I don't know all celebs nor do I have any wish to know the vast majority, but it is entirely possible to either know some of these royals, or have family members who know them, or know people who know them, or have to have god awful dinners on occasion with some of them.

diddl · 22/04/2021 08:54

@Forestiere

W&K seem to do very little tbh. Does anyone know - when they're pictured making a call to eg a hospital or charity, is that classed as an engagement?
I think that they have been allowed time to be with their kids whilst young-something neither HMQ or PC had.
JustLyra · 22/04/2021 08:54

Can we not have one thread discussing things that doesn’t end up zapped because someone can’t resist posting unsubstantiated gossip that will make MN twitchy?

Not to mention the tedium of everything coming down to William Vs Harry or Kate vs Meghan.

goodbyestranger · 22/04/2021 08:55

I also never go near anything remotely approximating to a gossip mag, even at the hairdresser.

diddl · 22/04/2021 08:56

As much as Zara has done well, who she is/is connected to has surely helped?

Her mum's place where she also lives was bought by HMQ & Peter Philips also had a plce on the estate at one time.

So they all seem to benefit in some way!

goodbyestranger · 22/04/2021 08:56

JustLyra it's all substantiated ok.

JustLyra · 22/04/2021 08:57

@goodbyestranger

JustLyra it's all substantiated ok.
No it isn’t.

Claiming to know someone who knows someone who heard something isn’t substantiated. Not at all.

reprehensibleme · 22/04/2021 08:59

Ahhhh, now, your sources are behind the times - it's substantiated that the Duchess of Cambridge couldn't give a rats (taps nose).

I certainly couldn't cope with all that travelling, I'd be worn out in five minutes! God, yeah, all that hand shaking and chit chat, knackering. Those people doing 12 hour shifts in physical jobs or a full day at the office + long commute and then house work and childcare have no idea do they?

IbrahimaRedTwo · 22/04/2021 09:00

We definitely believe you've had dinners with the Royals and they told you about Williams affair and Kate being jealous. Sure petal.
