The royal family

Shame on the RF

Snog · 05/04/2020 16:32

What right does the queen have to address the nation when the RF have been openly breaking the rules on Coronavirus regarding non essential travel, using second homes and not observing social distancing and isolation.

RF is an embarrassment, hoarding resources and setting a dreadful self entitled example to their "subjects".

Pah.

notangelinajolie · 06/04/2020 11:14

You need to familiarise your self with the rules of monarchy and then you would learn that she has every right to address the nation because addressing the nation in what monarchs do. It is in her job specification.
And secondly she wasn't travelling to her second home she was going home. Windsor Castle is where she lives.
I suggest you press the off button on your TV next time.

Lenny1980 · 06/04/2020 11:14

@Snog I would have thought the level of support for the royal family was pretty obvious given the numbers who turn out to watch a royal wedding, see them go to church at Christmas, etc.

notangelinajolie · 06/04/2020 11:17

@Devlesko
Erm, how has she been affected at all?

Erm, her son had it.

Devlesko · 06/04/2020 11:40

Erm, how has she been affected at all?

So, she hasn't been affected at all, then.
She's lost nothing financially, her son is fit and well and will have received far more care than any of us would, and it hasn't changed her life at all.
I was always take or leave the royal family, wished them no harm and liked that they were there. This just shows how much we don't need them, what little they actually do and how they lie that they are affected too.
Disgusting in this day and age, but great for those who like to toe the line, the little proles Grin

RedRed9 · 06/04/2020 11:49

Personally I found it unhelpful and inappropriate

of course I didn't tune in!

So... you’ve made a decision about the speech without even watching the speech?

Yeah... I stand by my original statement. I noticed MN have removed it but I’m sure you can guess the sentiment.

PNomintrude · 06/04/2020 11:54

The last thing we need at the moment is negative, sniping attitudes. If you don't like her, just ignore the speech. We're still a monarchy, like it or not and one of the Queen's jobs is to bring people together and raise morale. I thought her speech was really good. Can't stand the constant anti-royalist posts on Mumsnet, just bore off please.

Lochroy · 06/04/2020 11:59

Whatever your views on the monarchy, what rules have been broken?

And of course she's been affected. Unable to work as normal. Won't be going to church. No doubt worrying for friends and family.

And at least they pax taxes.

There's plenty to have a go at the Royal Family for if you're so inclined, but this is baseless.

NotMiranda · 06/04/2020 12:41

@farfallarocks - what exactly do you think William & Kate should be doing in London? Touring round hospitals (i.e. increasing infection risk for themselves, their security detail & the numbers of people who would come to see/meet them)? Volunteering for the NHS (increasing infection risk for themselves, their security detail & the numbers of people who would come to see/meet them)? Anything they could do, other than virtually, is going to be a mad distraction and an increased risk at the moment. Better they, like all of us, stay put as far as they can, and do anything they can online or by phone.

Pelleas · 06/04/2020 12:47

The speech is irrelevant fluff in the real argument that the monarchy is an expensive anachronism.

Oblomov20 · 06/04/2020 12:49

I liked her speech. Not really a royal fan but I thought her speech was perfect.

farfallarocks · 06/04/2020 12:58

@NotMiranda they could volunteer doing unglam jobs, deliveries etc. At the very least they should have stayed in london rather than decamping to their country estate where they no doubt retain a huge staff.

farfallarocks · 06/04/2020 12:59

I was also taking a sweep stake on when the ww2 was going to come up I mean it’s such a cliche.

CallmeAngelina · 06/04/2020 14:09

farfallarocks, So you would prefer all those staff to lose their jobs then?

farfallarocks · 06/04/2020 14:41

Absolutely not I am sure they can afford to keep them on, full pay, at home.

ToastedHaMSandwich · 10/04/2020 10:56

What makes you feel you can deride something you haven’t listened to OP?

YetAnotherSpartacus · 10/04/2020 11:03

I thought it was an excellent speech.

It is in her job specification

There is a comedy sketch here. We could also do the Queen's annual performance review!

Snog · 10/04/2020 14:18

My post was written before the speech was even made and wasn't about the speech itself.

I feel like the RF are part of the problem and not part of the solution, that was my point.
