Cat threw up on the Christmas tree, fml

This morning, I was just sitting down to a nice coffee when I heard a dreadful gagging sound in the direction of the window.

One of my torties proceeded to puke on the windowsill, then downwards, hitting the tree, tree skirt, the wall, and skirting boards below and of course the carpet. It got into the side of the carpet in between the wall and boards, my other cat was trying to eat it before I shooed her out of the room - fml!

I'm on my hands and knees trying to clean stinky wet food sick off everything. Dr Beckmann's pet cleaner comes to the rescue, but Lord, it took forever to get it off stuff. I had to reapply it 3 times along with loads of wet and dry paper towels.

What's the worst place your cats have ever thrown up?

Here's the little fucker with an ornament she nabbed off the tree yesterday to play with.

I’m sorry but that’s made me laugh 😆

One of mine threw tuna all up the back door last week. She’s a regular barfer. Wolfs her food way too fast.

cliffdiver · 20/12/2025 09:52

Not quite what you asked, but it reminded me of a conversation years ago.

DH and I were talking about the carpet being the worst place a cat could throw up.

DD proceeded to say she could think of a worse place… in your mouth.

SilverPink · 20/12/2025 09:53

Yours is a beauty though 😻

hilariousnamehere · 20/12/2025 09:55

One of mine, also a tortie, regular puker, threw up on my bed a few weeks ago and I don't think I've ever been more appalled 😂

Good thing she's cute! (And yours is too even if she is a projectile vomiter!)

My tortie gobbles her food and immediately throws it up again a lot too. Clearly it's a trait!

I can't top your story though OP. I think the worst place she's ever thrown up is probably my bed.

Sorry, that sounds like a nightmare!

Forever1973 · 20/12/2025 09:56

One of mine through up on the doormat - a bristle-type doormat - it proved impossible to get it out.

Generally, the worst places have been anywhere I might step in bare or stockinged foot, first thing in the morning!

queenofthebongo · 20/12/2025 09:57

On my bed……

All through the house and up the stairs, ending on the bedroom carpet.

Bedroom carpet again, but this time I didn’t see it and trod in it.

its a good job I love my cats….

DinoLil · 20/12/2025 10:02

Oh no! That's not funny (but did make me laugh!).

Not a cat related incident, but dog ate a chocolate Father Christmas whilst visiting my neighbour's house a couple of weeks ago. Off to the vets we go. They induced vomiting and gave me a tray to catch it all in in order they could check it (bleurgh!). Could I catch any of it? Nope. Dog threw up violently all over their doormat, chair legs, my legs and not a drop went in the tray.

The bill was quite a lot, I'm sure they added deep cleaning of their reception to it!

Oh yes, half asleep, heading barefoot to the kettle, and … squelch 🤢

soupyspoon · 20/12/2025 10:24

They'll look for the most inconvenient place to do it and then wait until its time for their food to come back up. Its an exact science with them

Now what I do OP, is, and steady yourself for this, I wait until its dried. Then it will usually just hoover up. But that means you have to have sick sitting there for the best part of the dya, you need it nice and dry and crusty

Be brave.

When I lived at home We had three cats who would race each other to bolt their food and often one would throw up straight after. They liked to sit in the boiler as it was warm (counter top height) and sometimes the vomit would land on the adjacent stove top.

One of them used to like chewing fabric. Threw up on the living room carpet one day and the vommy heap contained a pair of dolls knickers.

Siamese - nutters.

tortietimestwo · 20/12/2025 10:45

These posts have cheered me up very much! The bed would definitely be worse. @hilariousnamehere what a beautiful floof! Give her a cuddle from me.

She thanks posters for their compliments, she's now had a bit more food and all seems ok so far. She doesn't do it often, but when she does - oh boy!

Our previous cat had intestinal lymphoma, and her only symptom was frequent puking. It took months of trips back and forth to the vet until she was finally diagnosed, because unusually for that condition, she was otherwise completely well with absolutely no other signs. In that time she threw up in every possible spot, including charmingly on a pile of freshly hand washed knitwear that was waiting to be put away. On the night before she was pts she puked on my pillow, narrowly missing my hair. I loved her so much I didn’t even care.

CatChant · 20/12/2025 10:58

On me in the middle of the night when I was asleep. She then tucked her paws under her and settled back down (still sitting on my chest) with a contented sigh as if to say: “That feels better.”

She was a tortie too.

Your girl is beautiful, OP.

hilariousnamehere · 20/12/2025 12:17

Cuddles duly given and appreciated @tortietimestwo !

@CatChant you win the thread that is truly horrific (and very funny with her tucking herself calmly back up!)

Redwinedaze · 20/12/2025 13:10

Certainly one of the funnier titles I have read on here 😁

Elmrosie · 20/12/2025 13:15

One of mine threw up over my work laptop, which then gave up the ghost. I had to take it into the office to be looked at and when the chap from IT opened it, a fishy waft came off it.

KnickerlessParsons · 20/12/2025 13:18

We only have one place in our house with carpet: stairs and landing.
Where does the cat throw up most often? Stairs and landing.

CheeseWisely · 20/12/2025 13:21

Why is it always on the carpet?!? We have solid floors in the bathroom and kitchen and carpet everywhere else and NOT ONCE has our cat ever thrown up in either of those two wipe clean rooms.

I tell a lie, he once did it in the bathroom, but obviously opted for the bathmat. At least that can go on the washing machine.

My thoughts are with you OP.

Zippedydodah · 20/12/2025 13:24

In a wellie boot …. I had bare feet …..
Only thing worse was a live mouse……. Ditto…..l

crazeekat · 20/12/2025 14:18

My tortie (see a pattern here) threw up a whole pouch of food down the side of the top of my huge oak wardrobe, that is like 2cm from the wall. She made it all the way down that gap and I had to get my brother and neighbour to come and move it for me. Was smelling cat chicken for days as they couldn’t come straight away. Was raging hahahaa wee shit had the audacity to go and sit in the kitchen and wait for more food.

SilverPink · 20/12/2025 19:53

It’s always the bloody carpet!! One of mine once stood with all 4 paws on the tiled hall floor, and vomited straight onto the living room carpet!

sodabreadjam · 20/12/2025 20:06

Frequently in our shoes and trainers that we kept in the porch. One of their many cat beds was also in the porch. We eventually got wise and bought a shoe rack.

Under our bed - right in the
middle.

On our bed.

In the wardrobe.

Over my handbag.

In their own bed.

But they both lived to be 18 and we really miss them. ❤️

Kittekats · 20/12/2025 20:13

One of our old cats used to shit under the xmas tree. Was rather awkward of you didn’t spot it and had guests round.
