Do you dry your cats.

Do you dry your cats off with a towel when they've been out in the rain? I do mine and she seems to quite like it, I wondered if this was normal?

I used to dry off my old cat with a paper towel, including drying her paws so she didn’t leave damp paw prints everywhere. She used to grumble, but I hope she appreciated feeling dry afterwards.

rainbowunicorn22 · 11/09/2025 16:16

I would normally say no but our inherited cat is now 21 years old so if she goes out to do what she has to do we normally give her a bit of a pat over. i would hate for her to get a cold or worse

FitatFifty · 11/09/2025 16:17

We’ve had cats before that loved being dried with a towel, current cat doesn’t like it so just a paper towel if he’s really wet.

ItsmeMargo · 11/09/2025 16:17

Yes I do. He doesn’t seem to mind too much.

bengalcat · 11/09/2025 16:19

Yes I rub them with a towel as I’m not keen on cuddling wet pussy

Beamur · 11/09/2025 16:19

My long haired cat loves being dried. Will come and rub her wet cold fur against you to request it.

Ruggerlass · 11/09/2025 16:20

Yes. He has his own towel. He doesn’t mind his body and tail but can’t do his feet. My son dries his cat too

ShoutyCatSlave · 11/09/2025 16:21

Yes. She has her own microfibre towel (think it was free with a raw food trial). It lives on the radiator, so bonus if the heating has been on. When she comes in wet, she cries to be dried with it. Then, typically, she'll go back outside and get wet again. Repeat until I get fed up of her game and she has to dry herself. Then she sulks. On the radiator with her soggy towel.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 11/09/2025 16:22

Yes, but just with kitchen roll, and also not a big fan of feet being dried. He comes in and shouts to be dried off!

CMOTDibbler · 11/09/2025 16:24

No. I quite like my skin attached to my body and neither of the current cat inhabitants of this house would appreciate being held to be dried

Jo1667 · 11/09/2025 16:32

Yes, I have a dedicated cat towel which is kept on a hook next to the back door. One of my cats purrs when I rub his body with the towel but squirms a bit when I do his feet, so I have to do those quite quickly. The other one is fine with me doing her body and feet. No purring though.
My previous cat used to wait on the entrance mat for you to rub his body (purred) and would co-operate by lifting his feet.

Oldraver · 11/09/2025 16:35

I had a drying towel from Aldi, think super soft micro fibre shaped like oven gloves. Ernie absolutely loved it and we swore he went out to get wet on purpose

Current two I wouldn't even get near them

OllysArmyRidesAgain · 11/09/2025 16:38

My cats have their own towels and request to be dried when they have been out in the rain, as their slave, I oblige.

To be fair, it is better than them using my duvet.

Iloveeverycat · 11/09/2025 16:39

My cat likes it. He also likes a damp flannel when it is hot.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 11/09/2025 16:40

I tend to keep a towel to hand when the weather is bad, so I can dry CatBastard - carefully because he got his nickname by being a bitey little sod.

I also brush and comb him - he isn’t a true long haired cat, but his fur is quite long, and he is elderly and not as good at grooming himself. He stays perfectly clean, but can’t get rid of the mats in his fur, so I have to do it for him. Over the past year or so, I reckon I have brushed out enough fur from him to knit a whole new cat, if I’d kept it! 😂

I have always done that for all the cats I've had

pinneddownbytabbies · 11/09/2025 16:45

Yes, I do if they come in drenched to the skin and with muddy paws. They usually go straight in the kitchen, so I dry the cat with whatever tea towel is lying around handy, then chuck it straight in the washing machine afterwards. Some cats seem to quite like it, others don't.

SooticaTheWitchesCat · 11/09/2025 16:45

Yes, he isn't too keen but it's better that being wet.

Catpiece · 11/09/2025 16:46

Yes with a towel. If we can catch him…

GermanShepherd74 · 11/09/2025 16:47

Yes! Mine stands in the kitchen and shouts until he is towelled dry. Extra purrs if he gets a towel to stand on while being dried too :)

EchoedSilence · 11/09/2025 16:47

My cat won't go out in the rain.

This…

KittenKaboodle · 11/09/2025 16:51

An approaching towel is more terrifying than the hoover AND the clothes airer combined.

No worry - she dries herself off on my legs instead 🙄

crackofdoom · 11/09/2025 16:53

Yes, but stripey cat prefers to dry herself off by getting on my lap and crawling inside my cardigan 🙄

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 11/09/2025 16:54

I used to have a cat that loved being dried, he'd come in shouting for his towel, then immediately go back outside and get wet and come in shouting again!
