Tiny kitten socks

I need suggestions. DD and I are fostering a mum cat and her 4 kittens. 3 of the kittens have a stumpy leg as the cord was wrapped round their feet. It cut circulation off and their paws have now fallen off too. They heal pretty quickly until they exert themselves and rub the scab off. They all have fat flu too! Mum is licking them and we are cleaning stumps too but i think we need something to cover over the end of their paws as they look red raw. They are tiny though, only 3 weeks old. I’ve tried the bandage type tape that sticks to itself but it keeps falling off. Their legs are just so small. Any ideas of what I could use?

Has a vet suggested anything?

Favouritefruits · 13/04/2025 09:16

They need a vet ASAP! Their paws have fallen off, they must be in agony! Take them now

StarCourt · 13/04/2025 10:48

Of course they have already been to the vet, twice, who now has no immediate concerns. They have had antibiotics and will be having surgical amputations once they are 5 months old. I assure you we are looking after them diligently. Cleaning their eyes every few hours, administering eye drops. we are hand feeding one who is very small and giving him antibiotics too. We love them and are caring for them. It’s just that i’ve noticed what is happening with their paw now they are more active.

You can get really small kitten cones, what about those to stop them reaching the wound?

hoppu · 13/04/2025 13:27

Prem baby mittens/socks?

FusionChefGeoff · 13/04/2025 13:39

they aren’t doing it to themselves it’s just happening as they are moving around more and becoming playful with each other

The fingers cut off from gloves? Children’s gloves if they need to be really small.

SpringIsSpringing25 · 13/04/2025 13:46

How about doll size baby mittens?

Or something fashion dolls?

Poor little babies🥲

StarCourt · 13/04/2025 13:52

to give an idea of size it’s like trying to find something to fit over an eyeshadow crayon

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 13/04/2025 20:22

Is there any danger of them swallowing anything you put on them ?

Poor little kittens 😥

RaininSummer · 13/04/2025 22:43

I am quite surprised they haven't been euthanised tbh. Will they be able to live a normalish cat life with missing paws?

Yes i think there probably is so it would need to be something that wouldn’t pull off easily

they will have one missing paw each and in all 3 of them it’s a back paw which is better. The vet assures me that cats cope fine with 3 paws

Get the vet nurse to bandage them up. I read it as all their paws. Bird legs can be bandaged, absolutely no reason kittens can’t be done properly taking into account activity. Maybe crate them too until they’ve a good chance to heal.

crackofdoom · 14/04/2025 00:32

The suggestion of the fingers from kids' gloves could work. Maybe the entire finger so it went all the way up their leg so it would be too big to ingest? And weave some wool/ tape through the knit at the top so that it makes a drawstring and can be tightened?

Poor little things- I thought you meant they'd lost ALL their paws at first!

They are already crated

sorry, to clarify it’s one stumpy leg each that will need to be amputated

OP posts:
caringcarer · 14/04/2025 02:17

I read it as all paws took. I was thinking they wouldn't be able to protect themselves with no claws but only one missing paw is not so bad. I'd bandage it up and put tape to stop it unraveling. Surely they need to dry up. If Mum cat keeps licking them they will stay moist so harder to heal.
