Could a male cat sense that my indoor female cat is in heat and just Tahoe up at my house/garden?

That should say turn up at my house/garden!

Sorry if this is a ridiculous question but genuinely wondering is this true? If my cat goes into heat, will I get all these male cats appearing in my garden or is that just a myth? My cat is an indoor cat only so not sure how male cats would be able to sense she is in heat through brick walls 😂

@Catcrazy85 thank you for taking heed of the comments on this thread. I'm sorry though that the tone of some of them was so sharp, you obviously care deeply for your cat.

I can honestly say that despite their biological urge to mate it is a brutal process for the females and would be very unsettling for a loving cat owner to witness.

She's so cute

This made me laugh

:
We kept her in but the tom cats were lined up outside and she kept sitting on the window sills, and trying to get their attention

You want your pet to be painfully, forcibly mated by one or more male cats with a barbed penis... and then have to give birth without anaesthesia.

That's what "letting her have a litter" means.

This is not the reason why you get a pet neutered for gods sake!

Are you saying it would be ok if there was a candlelight dinner and a birthing programme for the cat?!!!

We did exactly this. The female cat went into the garden and sang loud yowly songs for two weeks and two gentlemen cats did show up and oblige. We had six kittens, 5 looked like one Dad and one looked like the other.

The only downside really was that the female cat went all funny after we then had her spayed. She was still suckling the kittens when she was spayed and she got really crabby and miserable and was like that for the rest of her life. I think postnatal medical care for cats is not really much better than for humans.

The kittens were very nice and we kept two.

The 'only downside' was that your cat was miserable for the rest of her life? Pretty major downside, though you don't seem at all troubled by it.

It’s not ridiculous. My cat nearly died having kittens and coming into season made her so ill she nearly died there as well.

she was a kitten farm queen dumped at rescue on deaths door. Rescue paid ££££ for the vets bills, managed to save her and a couple of kittens.

then she got so stressed when the kittens were older she wouldn’t eat. Kittens were rehomed, she came into season, and was so preoccupied she stopped eating. Anaesthesia was a huge risk at such a low weight but every time they got her gaining weight she’d come into season again, and lose it and more.

In the end they had to make the decision to neuter and hope she survived it, as they couldn’t break the cycle and she wasn’t going to survive anyway.

luckily she did, and is now a happily pampered pet.

but yeah, cats and kittens is not all fluffy bundles of joy.

It’s part of it though. There’s the bit about it being painful & dangerous for the cat, & the bit about rescues already being swamped with abandoned kittens.

And I’m really impressed with the OP for listening & understanding instead of flouncing. Unlike the idiot who viewed her cat being miserable as a minor downside because the kittens were cute.

I had two kittens before COVID. A girl and a boy cat. When COVID came I wanted them spayed but vets were closed by the time they were 3 months. I had no choice but to keep the 2 cats separated in different rooms. It was really difficult. At 5 1/2 months the vets agreed to Spey one of them so we had the male done. Then they could be playful together again. The following month we were back in lockdown. As soon as the second lockdown was over I managed to book my female kitten in for spying. I was so thankful they were both done. You are doing the right thing getting her spayed.

Thank you op. Your cat is very pretty. She has the look of my Lettice (a rescue, dumped by a back street breeder because she got sick, Or because kittenhood is so short they didn’t sell her in time. Or both).

Bastards. I’m pretty sure my Kitty was used for breeding too. That or they simply couldn’t be bothered to spay her.

During the recovery period I recommend Cat TV on YouTube as entertainment. Although I also spent hours sitting on the floor playing with the ball track, since it’s fun but doesn’t involve leaping around.

March is still pretty late
