What is the least worst dry cat food?

Hey all

New rescue cat age 12 will only eat dry food plus some ham/tuna.

She will NOT eat wet cat food to my great despair and disappointment.

What is the least worst dry cat food please?

Thanks

Mine get Purina One, the one for seniors. They like it (most days, lol).

PetrichorSoul · 23/07/2024 20:20

Orijen.

It’s spendy but no cat needs cereals, grains or starches. They’re obligate carnivores and this food is the cleanest I’ve ever found.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 24/07/2024 11:28

I tried Harry on all sorts of biscuits but the only ones he would eat were James Wellbeloved turkey or fish. Not the best but I used to tell myself at least he didn't want Go Cat!

Scampuss · 24/07/2024 11:30

Mine will only eat Purina One (which the rescue had her on) or Iams Naturally. I tried all the grain free ones and she refused them all. She's ridiculously picky for a former semi-feral.

WonderingWanda · 24/07/2024 11:33

Mine will only eat purina one and will kick gravy from other cat food. Absolutely detests any form of meat (apart from actual live birds) but will steal cheese or tuna given half a chance...and vomit it back up.

Royal Canin Ageing 12+

Lemonade2011 · 24/07/2024 11:37

Mine like purina one too they eat the kitten one as we have a kitten it’s little so might be easy for a senior but they probably do a similar senior kibble too

EasterlyDirections · 24/07/2024 11:39

Mine have Canagan, it's cereal free. It is expensive but they love it.

WetBandits · 24/07/2024 11:53

I feed mine raw but supplement with kibble if they’re pestering me! Boy cat has a very sensitive tummy and gets the shits with most kibble, but seems okay with Scrumbles.

Another one here who has found Purina One Senior just about the only dried food mine will eat. I have 3 cats two aged 6 and one aged 4. Over the years I have tried them on just about all that is out there and if they dislike something then they sniff and taste a bit then walk away. They are also very fussy with wet food. Similar to the above (tried every brand out there) but are fine with Sheba Fresh n Fine and Purina Gourmet. I often mix a little chopped cooked chicken or plain white cooked fish into the wet food. My cats don't get any treats.

spikeandbuffy · 24/07/2024 12:52

Mine hates wet food but will eat James wellbeloved biscuits and Sheba wet food
That's it

spikeandbuffy · 24/07/2024 12:53

Oh and I sometimes get some more wet food into him by offering raw chicken/mince etc

lovemycbf · 24/07/2024 12:54

Mine loves Simpsons cat kibble not cheap but decent ingredients

Durdledore · 24/07/2024 12:55

Mine loves Hills Science Plan Oral Care which he’s been put on by vet to keep his teeth clean.

Blackcats7 · 24/07/2024 13:15

Tried a huge variety and Purina suits her tummy best. She has wet food too of course.

leeverarch · 24/07/2024 14:09

Hills, Purina and James Wellbeloved all liked by our crowd including one elderly and one without many teeth!

RhetoricalRectangle · 24/07/2024 14:20

Orijen if affordable to you

dementedpixie · 24/07/2024 14:22

Thrive dry is 90% chicken
I use that and encore dry which is about 80% chicken.
I make a mix of them in a plastic pouring tub.

SureJanOK · 24/07/2024 23:01

Thanks all, I'm going to sit down and research all of these!

Royal Canin is good. I only part feed with biscuits but this is my cat's favourite brand and the protein content is good.

Floralnomad · 25/07/2024 01:02

Ours like the chicken and duck Applaws .

OpizpuHeuvHiyo · 25/07/2024 01:03

Ours has always eaten the MiPet dry food which we get from our vets.

Dry food is much better for a cat's teeth which can save huge amounts of issues. Also smells less and isn't messy. I don't get what the problem is?

Mine only eats Purina dry food too, which is what the rescue centre had her on. I never thought this was an issue? Is it?

It's often low in meat content and male cats can be prone to urine issues/blockage which can be helped by feeding wet food
Dry is often higher in carbs too, processed, additional ingredients that aren't natural for them to eat

There's a lot of studies and I haven't found anything conclusive but having had a male cat with urine issues and a blockage I was determined my new boy will eat some wet food

From what I've read it seems to be that the cheapest wet is better than the cheapest dry and the less ingredients and more meat the better. But then it's what the cat will eat... I compromise as mine will only eat shit quality wet food and good quality dry!

Mine have a mix of Smila and Sanebelle
I buy the bulk bags from zooplus
