Anyone tried KatKin?

I've been seeing their adverts all over my Instagram, and it sounds really good -- especially since they updated the food recently I think? It looks really meaty.

I have three DCats, one of whom is allergic to wheat (he loses all of his hair if he eats it) and the other two are getting on a bit, so I'd really like to get them on the best food I can. They've been fine on Felix but KatKin just looks so much better. And there are some great reviews. But I don't think I've ever seen a fresh cat food before. Any experiences?

Yes tried it neither of mine would eat it, I've still got some in the bottom of the freezer. Mine like Untamed and Blink both good.

bringonyourwreckingball · 04/07/2024 13:27

I have - cat had digestive issues which have completely cleared up with katkin. Cons are that it takes up an enormous amount of freezer space (I have 3 cats) and you need to be organized about remembering to get it out to defrost. Also some flavours go down better than others with mine.
on the whole though it has been good and kitty is much better for it

Wasn't a fan of KatKin's old recipe, but now they've changed it, Angie is obsessed. Might be worth re-trying.

Untamed and Blink are only like 60% meat, I think, and I gave them a go before the recipe change but I'm not a fan of how Untamed is made in Thailand. Also - when I went through their form, it gave me food that was supplementary and not complete, which I thought wasn't very good.

bringonyourwreckingball · 04/07/2024 13:29

Blink really didn’t agree with my shitty kitty

TheShellBeach · 04/07/2024 13:30

They won't deliver it to my postcode.

That's such good news about your DCat's tummy troubles! Noted about the freezer space, though. Might have to do a big clear out first.

Yes, we've had it for the past two years now. The constant vomiting back of undigested food has stopped completely and she's now the right weight having been underweight before.

That's amazing! My older two vomit all the time, I always put it down to eating too fast. Never thought it could be the food itself.

Wait, Thailand? Maybe I'm super naive, I just assumed cat foods sold in the UK had to be made here because of food safety and things. Where is KatKin made, do you know?

Just Googled to make sure, but it's definitely made in the UK as they do it themselves: they have it on the recipe page and I found this article from last year too. One of the vet's on TV did some videos about them too, so much I didn't know about the industry!

This is great, thanks! Love that it's 100% meat and fish. This might spell the end for all the frozen veg in my freezer 😂

Yep. My cat wouldn't go near the stuff!

namechangiosa · 04/07/2024 14:12

I have just started my senior cat on it (14 years old) as she has got very fussy and skinny, and I was throwing away more than she was eating. Fortunately I have a couple of freezers so I could more or less empty a drawer. She has been on it for a week now and has eaten nearly everything - just one bad day where I think she must have been off colour. This is almost unheard of lately (although in her youth she was a greedy cat). However, a week isn't much and she is notoriously fickle, so we'll see. I got the trial pack (2 weeks) with 20% off. If you can get someone to recommend you, I think you can have some free I think - look on their site.

Glittertwins · 04/07/2024 14:16

We also thought it was a greedy cat bolting her food but found a few people online saying the same thing, particularly after Felix (which she had) moving manufacturing faculties. We get the occasional furball now but the vet was concerned about her weight dropping (wish I had that problem!!). We used to have piles of undigested food on the floor, the carpet cleaner was constantly used.

MightyGoldBear · 04/07/2024 14:19

Definitely made in the UK. From really good quality ingredients it's classed as human grade food. They do a palate-ability test and they as in the humans that work there taste test it 🤭
Hopefully soon to be stocked in pets at home and the like so might make it easier to get/store less in freezers for some.

Tubbyinthehottub · 04/07/2024 14:20

Tubbycat was on Katkin for a while but went off it eventually and has been on Luna and Me raw for a long time now. It works out pretty cheap.

Blackcats7 · 04/07/2024 14:23

Problem is that you are dependent on the delivery method and that can be extremely variable so the food arrives partly defrosted or not at all.

4pink1blue · 04/07/2024 14:28

My rescue cat is fed on katkin. She was skinny, her fur was sparse and dull when we got her. 6 months on katkin and she is becoming a bit of a chonk and her black fur is super thick and glossy. It's been worth it for us.

Mistymorin · 04/07/2024 14:31

My 14 year old decided he didn’t like Katkin when they changed the recipe so I put him on Sheba which he seems to enjoy. A blessing in disguise as I could no longer justify paying the £50+ a month for Katkin.

Do dpd not deliver to your postcode? That's who they use so I imagine it would be a issue with dpd not delivering to your area perhaps?

That would be amazing! I'll keep an eye out at Pets at Home, but tbh we don't really have much in the freezer so the convenience of it turning up at my door is pretty appealing. No more rushed morning trips to the Co-Op!

Haha imagine having to eat it for work! Though I guess it's just meat, so might be pretty tasty... may ask if my DP will give it a go 😂

I get Katkin for my cat, he’s on a mix of Scrumbles and Katkin so he has one tray a day of Katkin rather than 2. He loves it, some flavours more than others mind. Unlike when he was on Felix and then Hill’s as per vet recommendation, his poo is now rarely stinky and his coat looks super healthy and glossy. I’d definitely recommend it. It does take up a bit of freezer space but it’s not difficult to remember to get a tray out each evening when I feed him the one from the fridge. You can also heat it up in the microwave if your cat is very spoilt or fussy!

A lot of companies won't deliver to the Kintyre Peninsula.
Although it's in mainland Scotland, their computers say NO.

It's very annoying. Yes, DPD deliver here. But not Katkin. Or some companies who you order via Amazon.

Oh that's very annoying sounds like purely a computer error then. Will feed that back to the katkin tech team they won't want to be losing potential customers purely on a computer error 🙈

I don't think it's an error though.
Certain postcodes which start PA are rejected by a lot of companies.

For some reason they think the Kintyre Peninsula is an island. Which it isn't.
