Messy little monsters! The one in the box (sorry,I can't remember which is which) looks so much like my old cat Pigeon, even the tilt of her head 😍

RumNotRun · 18/06/2024 09:54

This was my Pigeon.

It's meant to be a door stop but sometimes the cats do decide to attack the poor stuffed cat!

Gorgeous 😻

I'd only had her a couple of weeks and came home from work to find her staggering about like she was drunk. I started panicking thinking of dogs with distemper and what it could be in a cat, got someone to give me a lift to the vet, and after some examination of her ears and her walking, the vet said it's a relatively common illness (although no one I know, including people who have run rescues for years, have ever heard of it) called Idiopathic Vestibular Disorder which affects the balance part of the brain. They said she'd get her balance back but may always be a bit wonky.

After a few days, she started walking normally again but did always have a tilt to her head after that. It took her a while to judge jumps too, she'd kind of bob up and down for a few minutes before making any jumps. Funny little Pigeon.

Well, Gizmo gets an award for being the first cat I've ever known who will eat Pro Kolin.

He's had a bit of diarrhoea for a day or two, so we got some. We figured it was just the upheaval and the change of scene etc. He's eating very well and doesn't seem unwell.

Anyway, I mixed some Pro Kolin in with his food, expecting him to refuse to eat it, but he scoffed the lot.

Mr SB is in the doghouse.

We were meant to be going to my hospital appointment today, but he let Linney out at 5.45, when we got up (he says accidentally) so we couldn't go.

We wouldn't have got back till 2.30 pm, and we couldn't leave the window open for Linney to get back in, in case Gizmo got out.
Hmm

That's one of the drawbacks of living a long way from civilisation. Hospital appointments are generally a hundred miles away.

If there's an emergency, there's the air ambulance, and we have quite a good A and E fifteen miles away. But they have to get patients airlifted quite often.

We have a brilliant GP surgery though. There are three doctors and an ANP.

If we ring for an appointment, the phone is answered immediately and we're seen that day or the next.

We also have a pharmacy who produce repeat prescriptions on the same day they're requested.

Basil looks like one of those horror films where you see a nice peaceful fluffy cat and then suddenly - RAWWWWWRRR!!! A spiky fiend!

Rum, I will of course forgive you for not remembering the name of every cat on these threads, especially the relative newcomers. The fat black one is Thrifty, but I tend to call her Mrs Cat. She's tilting her head in the picture because she's just realised a monster is trying to break into her house. The monster in question is Izzy the Busy. Izzy is the Eater of Feet, while Thrifty is the Eater of Everything Else, especially Izzy's dinner. Your Pigeon was gorgeous, but of course you know that. I may be slightly swayed by the colour scheme. It seems it is my fate to have black and white cats, whatever the original intention. There are worse fates.

Saw this on Facebook, Shell. It sounds like Gizmo is doing just fine.

TheShellBeach · 18/06/2024 21:38

Thank you Papergirl.

Gizmo has hidden behind the telly again today. There is no sign of the argumentative bugger with which Grumpy was daily confronted.

He is eating and drinking though; he seems happy to be stroked, and comes up for Dreamies. When he wandered out to the kitchen for his food, he saw the front door open, and had a look into the garden.

He didn't go out, though.

My DD and I were talking about this, and she said it'll take some time.

Breadcat24 · 18/06/2024 22:31

@Grumpyoldpersonwithcats you will never need to buy a rug

@TheShellBeach you are doing fine.
He will be much happier when he can get out . When we moved 0.5 miles I kept Breadcat in for 6 weeks.
Imagine if Gizmo tried to walk home!!

TheShellBeach · 19/06/2024 13:20

We left the door open today to see what Gizmo would do.

Despite being able to see the garden, and Linney on the seat, Gizmo was unimpressed. I mean, he did go down the steps and he looked round for a minute, but then he returned to the house and went to sleep behind the telly again.

Looking on the bright side he's clearly not a flight risk. So giving him outside access shortly should be low risk.

He could just be missing me (or Sybil) of course 🤣

LostCats · 19/06/2024 13:49

I wonder if because he can’t smell Grumpy’s blood, it’s putting him off 😆

Gizmo is a lot calmer overnight now.

They're still separated once we go to bed, though.

With no enemy to vanquish, is it even worth staking out one's territory?
