My insurer Agria sent me an email today with a link to the 20 most popular cats names, thought people might be interested to see if their cats are on there

One of mine is - Teddy - but the others aren't.

My cat's name is on the pedigree side but she's mixed breed. I find that very amusing for some reason

ArcticBells · 31/05/2024 20:23

I had a Teddy 💔😢 but none of my current darlings are on the list

tinytemper66 · 31/05/2024 20:31

Neither of the names on there belong to my cats!

AnneElliott · 31/05/2024 20:35

None of mine are on there. Slightly surprised as I thought at least 1 would be.

I do know lots of kids with names on those lists though!

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 31/05/2024 20:38

Catastrophic nn cat

Breadcat24 · 31/05/2024 22:42

Whatever happened to Marmaduke, Tiddles and Felix?

Alltheyearround · 31/05/2024 23:03

We had a work cat called Misty. She bit people. Especially people who thought it was cute that she was nesting in the box of poppies (for Remembrance Day).

She was a hawk not a dove, by political leaning. She also liked to commandere the bosses swivel chair.

She commuted to work every week day from a row of cottages opposite. Not sure what happened at weekends - did she turn up disappointed?

Our cat is Ivy/Pookachino neither of which feature in the list. Controversially there are a lot of d o g s with names like Luna and Bear.

Funny how some names get popular all at once, and you can't always trace a cultural point from which that sprouts.

I'm sure Ivy must have been percolating when our cat arrived 7 years ago due to Beyonce's Blue Ivy (now 12).

purpleme12 · 31/05/2024 23:06

Interesting read

Our cats' names are never on those lists!

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 31/05/2024 23:13

We've got a Misty, my dd named her, I think it's an old fashioned traditional cat name.

OzziePopPop · 01/06/2024 00:48

Neither of mine are on the list but we did have a Bluey as kids, 30 years ago now 🐈‍⬛💖🐈‍⬛

Kittensat36 · 01/06/2024 08:13

No neither of mine are on there, but would be surprised if they were - Kishmish and Minouche are not common.

I used to have a cat called Minnie and I say that if the cat distribution system provided me with another tortoiseshell, I would call her Minitou.

@coastal - I was about to post that you were cruel to call your cat that. Then I realised you said Lady and not Lardy, which would be ideal for the Tom who treats my house like his own.

Coastalcreeksider · 01/06/2024 08:51

Actually, Kittensat36 she was a tad tubby so I could have called her that but I wouldn't have wanted to hurt her feelings. 😂

Osllo · 01/06/2024 09:01

I thought Luna would be there. I like the name, but when I was adopting a cat a few years ago, every other cat seemed to be called Luna.

Shellingbynight · 02/06/2024 08:26

I had no idea Luna was such a popular cat name now, has the name been on a TV show/film?

We had a Lily several years ago (who I also thought of calling Lola), but I think that was the only other one on the list.

@Coastalcreeksider we had a Cleo many years ago, she was a brilliant cat.

I think Luna's been popular for quite a few years hasn't it

Osllo · 02/06/2024 09:32

I'm guessing the popularity of Luna came from Harry Potter.

BobbyBiscuits · 02/06/2024 09:52

Mine have been Bosco, Minky, Bug, Spike, Tita, Squingles and Billy.
I think the ones on the list seem pretty sensible. I don't really get Simba, as I honestly don't think domestic cats look anything like lions. I guess I'm missing that bit?!

LuckysDadsHat · 02/06/2024 09:54

This is outing, but our cat is 100% not on that list! Indiana Jellycat the First. Yes we let the kids name the cat.

WickWood · 02/06/2024 10:01

I have 5 cats, 3 are on there! Simba, Jasper and Milo. My other 2 are Pixel and Enzo.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 02/06/2024 15:12

Neither of mine on there
But one of mine has a film named after her Grin

Jaws?
🤣

No- on account of the fact Jaws was 1975 and our moggie is only 6yo .Grin

"Tarot"

(The film is rubbish , an hour and 32 minutes I won;t get back )

ghostyslovesheets · 02/06/2024 15:55

None of mine are there

I have - Bernard, Bonnie, Ben, Bandit, Sampson and Wee-man Bob !

Shellingbynight · 02/06/2024 16:30

@Osllo that makes sense. I have not read Harry Potter, I had a friend who called their cats Harry and Hermione, and I didn't make the connection until another friend told me!

Shellingbynight:

so was my Cleo, I have her as my screensaver. She was put to sleep 2013 and I still miss her. I miss all my past cats to be honest and after last one went September 2023, vowed to not have another one.

I get my cat fix coming on here and aaahhhing over the photos 😁
