Went to a rescue re homing day and fell in love!
Cat tax attached.
Owned cats as a child, but any advice happily received. He seems content, explored quite a bit of the house so far and had a wee in the litter tray and some biscuits and a drink. We haven't bought a bed as I thought we would wait and see what kind of sleeping arrangements His Majesty would like best.

Beautiful boy! Does he have a name?

Fairnair · 13/04/2024 16:43

He is absolutely gorgeous. In my experience of being owned by a cat they never sleep in specially bought beds. Our cat Emerald, we tend to call her Emmy sleeps on our bed, back of the sofa, living room windowledge (radiator underneath), on a pile of dry towells etc.etc.

Good luck with your new addition to your family.

The rescue named him Zeus, he was brought in stray. We think it suits his imperial nature.

What a gorgeous boy!

Spencer0220 · 13/04/2024 17:20

Oh how gorgeous.

Definitely keep name

Fairnair · 13/04/2024 17:28

Zeus really suits his name.

SevenSeasOfRhye · 13/04/2024 17:32

Advice - get him registered at your vet of choice even if he doesn't need anything in the way of vaccinations etc. Much easier then if he does need the vet in an emergency.

You will probably want to flea treat him before too long. Fleas were bad last year and best to nip any in the bud rather than end up having to fumigate your entire house.

As pps said, buy him a bed only if you want to give him the pleasure of disdaining it in favour of wedging himself at a peculiar angle into a small cardboard box 😃

Toddlerteaplease · 13/04/2024 20:06

My late girls did you their beds! Congratulations OP, he's gorgeous l!

SallyWD · 13/04/2024 20:14

He's so beautiful! And what a lucky boy to have a loving home. It's wonderful that he's already seemingly confident. Our rescue cat hid for a month and we didn't see him at all.

Ellmau · 13/04/2024 23:26

What a gorgeous boy Zeus is.

HereBeFuckery · 13/04/2024 23:59

Thank you for the vet advice - he does need second vaccinations, but we might register him at a nearer vets for ongoing care. He needs flea treatment in a month according to the rescue - should we do it sooner?

He has had a snuggle on my lap already, purrs like a jet engine taking off! He's such a big fluff ball - honestly he must be more than a basic mog given the sheer amount of hair! I suspect a Norwegian Forest Great great ancestor somewhere...

Look! I can't tell if he's a chubster, and needs to go on a treadmill, or if there's something in his genetics to make him such a chunk!

Zeus is not a chubster he just has “big fur”, he is gorgeous. I see he has found the window ledge with radiator underneath!! Hope he continues to settle in well in his new home.

Beamur · 14/04/2024 00:15

He looks very at home.
If the rescue have said flea treatment in a month, he's probably just been given some so don't put more on yet .

QueenBitch666 · 14/04/2024 01:59

He's absolutely gorgeous!
Thank you for rescuing him ❤️

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 14/04/2024 02:05

I agree with @Beamur he has probably just been deflead, and wormed ? so yes do it again in a month.
did they give you his vaccination card ? maybe the date of flea treatment was noted on it ?

pelotonaddiction · 14/04/2024 02:57

Mine adopted boy has never touched a cat bed
First night he climbed on my bed. Second night he shoved himself under the duvet wedged against me. Third night he kicked me to move over Grin

HereBeFuckery · 14/04/2024 08:07

Well, he happily curled up on a chair and slept there last night, guzzled his breakfast first thing and is generally still an absolute delight!
Will stick to the flea and worming dates we were given then. And I think a cat tower for exploring and scratching is probably going to be popular - I got a cardboard scratching pad but he has ignored it.
The only reason I worried about bit about weight is that the fosterer was giving him 2 pouches at breakfast and 2 at dinner time, which feels a lot. He would def eat it if I put it down, but he's not an actual lion! He's about 5kg, which I don't think is worryingly high? Will ask vet at next jabs for views on how much food, of course, but I don't want to overfeed. He has had some dry food between meals but isn't meowing for more wet food.
Ah, my cat servitude has begun well!

He is absolutely gorgeous!

With that magnificent coat He will need regular grooming to stop any mats developing.

What age is he?

fieldsofbutterflies · 14/04/2024 08:13

He's stunning.

He will need grooming though so make sure to do that. You don't want him to develop mats or infections.

TravellingIncognito · 14/04/2024 08:41

He's gorgeous. Long haired cats are fantastic. Advice, get yourself some lint rollers for removing cat hair off clothes. Be careful with insurance, make absolutely sure it isn't the type that re starts every year. Namely, whatever they've had year the before becomes a prior condition and isn't covered anymore. You can get really stung this way. I think these two different types of insurance are particular to pet insurance and lots of people make this mistake as it isn't always made obvious on signing up.

Regarding the cat bed, obviously he will 'own' your bed now, but mine had a doughnut style bed he sometimes liked. Truth is they generally love the cardboard box the bed comes in more than the cat bed itself. They like things which make them feel safe, with walls around them, hence the cardboard box enthusiasm.

Cats are grazers by nature, so proper 'meal' at breakfast, dinner and dried food left out inbetween sounds good. I used low calorie healthy dried food as mine, now sadly passed' was erring on the chunky side and wasn't enthused by this so only ate it when hungry. Vet will tell you good portion size.

Enjoy your wonderful cat, mine brought me so much joy for many years.

Pudmyboy · 14/04/2024 08:57

What an absolutely gorgeous boy, and I love the way he has owned his new home right from the get-go: no need to leave in a quiet room till he feels safe! Obviously the great god Zeus has very much landed on his paws, and I hope you have many glorious years in his service!😻

Iamacatslave · 14/04/2024 09:00

Zeus is gorgeous. Thank you for rescuing him. ❤️

Pixiedust1234 · 14/04/2024 09:06

He's beautiful 😍

I would feed him the same as the fosterer as they will also be guided by a vet, at least until he's been checked by your own vet.

For reference my little girl who was similar size to a teenager (2.35kg) ate 2 pouches a day and a large handful of biscuits. Supplemented by dreamies, stick treats and a variety of mice and birds 😬

EDIT - remember flea, worm and tick treatments are poisons so you must never overtreat as your pet is absorbing those poisons into their own system.

hattie43 · 14/04/2024 09:16

He is gorgeous
