How to help my sad boy?

Yesterday stbxh came and picked up girl cat, leaving boy cat alone. I was away for Easter so didn't see the handover, but boy cat is generally upset while I'm away anyway.

He's been shouting non stop since I got back last night and needs all of the attention and cuddles. Feel like the poor little guy is grieving.

I've had today off but have to go out for a few hours and have tomorrow off too to spend the day with him.

Any tips or tricks of how to make my little man feel better? He's a very sweet little soul and I feel so bad for him.

They are all beautiful! I love cats so much!

He survived his first day alone. Did a really excited poo and hasn't shopped shouting and following me since.

I once had a cat who was completely fixated on me to the extent she'd try to follow the bus taking me to work - this was in central London, just down the road from Waterloo so extremely heavy traffic. I'd've just sat down and then I'd see my cat trotting after bus in the middle of the road; I'd have to jump off the bus and run into the road to grab her and take her home!

The vet suggested leaving the radio or tv on, which I did to no avail so then he recommnded finding her a friend. Worked a treat!

I'm not sure I'd worry too much about moving home twice over next few months. I'd get a friend forhim now and they can become familiar/friends where everything puts him squarely in charge because they're all his things. A kitten, esp female, won't present much of a challenge and he'll feel comfortable.

They could provide comfort and safety to each other during the two moves.

I think it is a good idea to get him a companion now actually before you move, which gives them a chance to get used to each other in your current home.

Asap. Then being kept in with the moves won't be so hard on dcat 1. Our dkitten didn't go outside for a year. Her choice. She was 5 months before she hit the 2kg to be neutered..
She is a chunk now though still a small girl. Absolutely besties.

I would love to but I'm moving in with a friend and she's not a cat person so it's a big ask even bringing him, never mind a new guy.

He's had mad zoomies again tonight but has been crying a lot. Another day at work tomorrow and I'm out on Saturday night but apart from that I can be with him at home until Tuesday. I ordered him one of those heartbeat teddies you give to orphan kittens to see if that helps him during the day.

@Jux did an actual belly laugh at the thought of a cat strutting around Waterloo!

He's just scared to be alone. I remember how I got my cat as a kitten. Someone dropped a bunch of kittens in our street. No one saw who did that cruel (as for me) thing. Kids started to play with them and took those who were fluffy and beautiful to their homes. And one greyish kitten was left completely alone. It was heartbreaking watching him through the window looking for his mummy and siblings. He was crying non-stop, and I just went and took him home, although I didn't plan to get a cat.

We had two. Mine hated all cats even his ‘brother’ until the day i found him hurt, then he took too him immediately.
the only cat he liked.
he disliked all other cats in the house.
the day his brother died i took him too see him, he stopped ‘calling’ for him when he saw him passed.
we noticed after his brother passed his health went downhill.

Aw this makes me so sad!

I'm on my way home after an unexpectedly long day, I really hope he's ok. I left classic FM on to soothe him and maybe make him cultured 🤣 lots of cuddles and fuss tonight and a long lie with him tomorrow.

Just wanted to give a little update on my guy. The yowling and looking for her had thankfully stopped, but he's still super clingy at me. I went away for the weekend and had a cat sitter stay but it upset him so I won't be going away for a while!

I'm moving into my friends house on Sunday and hope a change of scenery - and someone who works from home full time - will be good for him. One more move until the poor thing is permanently settled and I can think about getting him a pal.

Poor wee pet! All the very best with your move xx

Would you try a herbal cat mat? Something like this.

https://www.animalaromatics.co.uk/product/herb-mat-mix/?doingwpp_cron=1711970235.1673030853271484375000

I'm a zoopharmacognosy practitioner and have mats with herbs for my cats but I specialise in Equine. Angelica is good for separation and anxiety, good for calming.

If you try it make sure you get good quality herbs.
