Anyone have a Donskoy?

Had my boy 8 weeks now. He's around 3. Had cats my whole life but he's so different. Follows me everywhere, LOVES human attention and is more like a dog!

Buy you get slaughtered. Rescue you get slaughtered. 🤔

How lovely, welcoming and supportive this board is 😊

Nobody has slaughtered her - they’ve just given their opinions on hairless cats.

Breeds like this are always going to be controversial - a bit like pugs or Frenchies are in the dog world.

Really sad that his previous owner had to give him up. Lovely that he's such a sweetheart. Our tabby moggie sometimes gets under the duvet. We've just had family staying over Easter and she was the friendliest she's ever been - usually hides away.

Oh!! He’s GORGEOUS!!
I am so envious. I’ve heard hairless cats are wonderful.
My DH and DD saw a Sphynx at the vet once. I was so jealous. Enjoy your lovely cuddles.

I realise you may have no idea about the answer to this - but as it's a dominant gene mutation had that allowed for more outcrossing within the breed? And less inbreeding?

I love all the hairless creatures (skinnypigs/ Chinese crested / Xolos / Sphynx etc.) but the inbreeding has always worried me.

Mine are both rescues and have skin/ gut/ heart problems which are common with sphynx. I love them to bits and took both of them on from rehoming charities. I don't agree with how they are bred and all their issues are genetic. I certainly wouldn't buy a kitten purposefully, but would continue to rescue. They take a lot of time to care for properly and insurance etc is high compared to a moggy.

There seem to be more coming up for Foster/ rehoming in the last few months/ year. Particularly ones from covid times that are now 3-4 and starting to show ill health etc. Both of mine have Eastern European passports and were imported in young. Such a shame someone would import them, but not want them long term. Very interesting cats though and as pp said, I think their need for warmth makes them more affectionate!

I never heard of a Donskoy before but @Notfeelinghunkydory you didn't breed him, and you were very kind to rescue him in a very sad situation.

I like my kitties complete with fur but he is very cute and clearly much-loved which is all that matters.

I wonder what those people preaching at you think should have happened to this cat?!!!

FabulousWealthyTart · 02/04/2024 20:16

My friend had a hairless cat and it was very affectionate. It was like cuddling a warm oven ready chicken though. Yours looks very content😊

Jewelanemone · 02/04/2024 20:17

He looks like a lovely boy 😊

How sad that his previous owner had to part with him due to terminal illness. He looks such a sweet boy! Well done for rescuing him and providing a loving home for him.
