How much does your BSH weigh?

My nine year old boy weighs 6.9kg and I got a huge bollocking at the vet this morning. I'm told he has to switch to Royal Canin diet food and join the vet's monthly fat club. She wants him at 5kg.

We banned Dreamies a few years ago but his weight has continued to rise. DP's furious he has to switch to diet food and insists he's a typical BSH.

My exotic shorthair (so maybe similar to British shorthair?) was 3.7kg at the vet last week and declared perfect. Shes quite small tho. Not underweight.

At heaviest, 7.3 kg after several months in recuperation. After a couple of years suburban life, 6.5kg, now in the country in rural territory, 5.1kg.

We need to see a picture to determine whether the vet was BU!

I don't have a BSH but personally I don't think you need to switch foods, just give him less of whatever he eats at the moment.

My big cat is currently on a diet (recently weighed in at 8.5kg) and we've had success with just cutting his food back. He gets a pouch of wet a day and a very rationed amount of biscuits.

Mine was 6.5kg when we got told off and sent to the fat cat clinic…

She then moved in with my in laws (long story) and is much bigger. I can see it affecting her - she’s really slow and inactive. Poor puss.

One of my exotic shorthairs is 2.7kg. The other is usually around 3.5kg but she's recently lost weight and is now 3kg. Trying not to worry about it too much. I can't imagine what my tiny pair would look like next to a 6kg BSH!

The male is 6.6 and the female 4.7kg. Neither are overweight although both would like to be

My blue male is 6.4kg but is genuinely not fat. He has a very big frame and is extremely long! Haven’t been told off by the vet yet. My colourpoint might be a different story though…I haven’t weighed him recently but he has a slightly lighter build … and feels very solid, especially around the rib cage area.

Our gorgeous rescue 20 year old BSH naughty tortie weighs about 5.5 kilos.

She is literally the biggest cat I have ever had. She also has a thyroid condition which means she is smaller than she might be otherwise!

Actually- now i am googling not sure our girl is a pure BSH. That is what she has on her documents but her face does not look like she is a pedigree.

But that said- can't resist talking about her and shoe horning her into any thread. She's our beloved.

Mine is 4.8 kg, but she's greedy so I have to be careful about the amounts of food she gets. If she nudges up to 5 kg the vet tells me to put her on a diet!

yes I think you are right! The BSH have those cutie faces. hers is different I see now.

AFAIK Royal Canin isn't actually that good - it has grain filler in it. I feed an all protein diet of tinned meat/fish and grain-free diet biscuits.

Loving all these cute cats. Your boy is handsome OP. I think BSH are supposed to be a bit stockier anyway.

This my 1yr old BSH girl. She was under 2kg when she was spayed at 6 months, not sure how much she would be now though.

My chonky girl was put on a diet when she weighed in at 5.9kg. She's now 4.6kg with a slim face and a swinging belly pouch. My other girl is 4kg and looks just about right.
