Toddler trapped cats tail in door!!

On route to the vet now! (DH driving). Tip of tail skinned and part of bone with it, so tail is bleeding. Worried sick about what they will do to her tail :( she went cold and was silent, not a peep, but she's now crying in the car as she normally does when going to the vet for annual check up etc.

Time for door guards!!!

Hope cat is ok.

Unfortunately toddler will learn the hard way if they hurt the cat the cat will bite or scratch them.

Just make sure you teach your toddler to be safe around dogs.

Sounds like they’ll have to do a partial amputation. They’ll need enough loose skin on the end to be able to sew it up and close the wound. If she’s moving round and yelling then those are good signs. Door guards definitely sound like a good idea.

We had a cat whose tail was accidentally amputated by a door. It was about half as long as it should be. Once it healed he was fine except it did mildly affect his balance.

She's in with the vet now. Worried sick.

Yes, you're probably right about the partial amputation :(

It depends on how much skin is left at the end, she might not even need that. I wouldn’t be massively worried op. I wouldn’t fancy the vet bill with the prices nowadays, but it sounds like a relatively minor injury that probably looks a hell of a lot worse than it is. The only thing with tail injuries is that it’s connected to the spine, but it would have to be a pretty horrific accident to cause a spinal injury, and it would be pretty obvious if there was one.

Partial amputation indeed tomorrow morning. She's getting painkillers injected now, it dressed (if she will allow it) and the cone. No food from midnight. Poor lamb!

Poor baby! Has made me realise I need to watch my 2 year old with our 2 fluffballs and doors! She's gorgeous. My brother (an adult!) accidentally shut his dog's tail in the door so sadly this sort of accident is common (he's a very gentle, caring man too. He carried a lot of guilt for it!)

We had a pony tread on a cats tail once. Semi feral. Skinned it, left 2 inches of bone sticking out. Very little blood though abd the bone dropped off a few days later. Couldn't catch him for a week or so but was fine when we dud!

Poor kitty. She will be fine though.

My best friend did this to my cat. She shut the car door and hadn't seen her climb in and was heading out. The noise. From both of them.

Our cat had a half tail amputation after coming home one day with the end missing. First few weeks was hard. She wanted to just go out but now fully healed she's ok. She did tho go through stages of having very tiny accidents, vet assumed she has some loss of sensation and didn't realised but it seems to have sorted itself out over time

Poor thing. But fortunately cats are tough cookies. It'll probably take you much longer to recover!

Hope her op goes well! I've known several cats with partial tail amps and they all recovered really well

She is absolutely beautiful 😍
Sending a hand hold for tomorrow morning - I'm sure it will all be fine and she'll bounce back, but I understand the worry Flowers

Mines had a tail amputation. About 3 inches. He came home one day with the injury so weve no idea how he did it.
He came home from the vet with a cone I was convinced wasnt big enough to prevent him getting the end of his remaining tail. Turns out it really wasnt big enough and he got to the stitches.
All turned out ok in the end.

She's feeling so sorry for her self (rightly so). Couldn't get it dressed so I'm feeling a bit nauseous looking at the bone twitching away. Still bleeding a bit but told to expect that.

She's dozing just now and will be shut in our bedroom tonight so we can keep an eye on her.

Will update tomorrow how things are x

That's her dropped off at the vet. Unsettled night as expected with the cone, and sick at 5am. Breaks my heart seeing her like that

Awww poor girl. She'll probably feel happier once she's home and able to have a nice meal. The cone really is traumatic for them, could you get a fabric one?
