Meet my beautiful curley haired Selkirk Rex kitten, Jasper.

He is utterly gorgeous and lovely, I'd never heard of the breed before and have never seen a curley kitten.

He is just perfect. ❤️

The last one made me laugh! So sweet. It’s especially cute that his ears are relaxed, showing he’s completely chilled out in the situation

😻

CatChant · 12/01/2024 20:50

Gorgeous little bat ears!

Daysie · 12/01/2024 20:58

You have a beautiful shitten

First shat I've ever seen!

Are you in England?
Did he cost a fortune?
Will he be kept indoors?

I really want a kitten but worry about it going outside and getting hurt.

LakeTiticaca · 12/01/2024 21:33

He's gorgeous 😍 ❤ all cats are beautiful. I want all of them 🥰🥰

JaceLancs · 12/01/2024 21:42

So sweet! X

WickWood · 12/01/2024 22:46

@Daysie
😂😂
I am in England, he did cost more than I would ordinarily spend on a cat! But probably not as much as youre thinking. All my cats are indoor with supervised garden access so he will be no different.

I am the same and would worry about them getting hurt too much, I see it on my local FB group all the time sadly!

JFC are we on mumsnet or in Australia?!
shitten for goodness’ sake? I am glad velvet is asleep. She’s too young for this type of chat.
Speaking of, Velvet is a rescue cat who would have cost easily £1.5k as a young kitten (she’s now 1-2 but not fully grown and we got her for £100 from Battersea). She’s also among the stupidest beings on the planet. I’m talking a sheep would beat her at mastermind with no study and she’s regularly just running into brick walls for no reason. My security blanket and I just look at each other and agree it didn’t happen.
She has fun outside and although I have trepidations about road traffic etc abd potentially even stealing - she mainly seems to just run wildly about in our garden and at least have the sense to not go to sleep on a car tyre (you may laugh but we’ve actually had one do that and not move when the car started up. A vet visit with a tyre print over his tummy followed. No harm done. How? No idea.)
On her first couples of forays out I followed her with a jingly toy to call her back if necessary and after a couple of hours she decided to cement her growing girth rather than more exploring. She’s now learned where her territory is and if you get under wheels it’s probably going to be painful, so her patrols are just the aforementioned running and checking things are in place - this can get to the point of ridiculous as she will come into my room and I often have four to five water glasses. She will arrive and very cautiously sniff all of them to make sure nothing fishy is going on not one but several times a day.
Her predecessor was a half Bengal and easily twice her size and just terrorised the flipping neighbourhood. No need to follow him around. He just went forth to terrorise.
All of that said and with a belief that outdoor cats are happier, one of the worst things I’ve seen is my stoical nana who had been expending a huge amount of energy trying to coax a stray she named Evie (white longhair) indoors and I feel hugely guilty but on her first day venturing indoors she went in what was called the den. I unwarned just quietly entered the room and she panicked to rush out. A few days later we saw what looked like a pile of dirty washing by the roadside while nana was giving me a lift to work and she tiredly said is that Evie and I had to say yes. She’s literally never got over that.
so takeaway: let them venture out and learn what their preferences and capabilities are. Yay TL:DR!

Has he got crinkley whiskers ?

He's lovely and so gorgeous hiding behind his new big brother

OzziePopPop · 14/01/2024 03:53

My kitten Akasha (1/2 spynx, 1/2 Siamese) has curly whiskers too, the vet had never seen curly whiskers and called half the practice in 😂 of course she is an exceptionally beautiful kitten so it could have been an excuse/because of her superior beauty and not her whiskers at all…

Jasper is gorgeous OP! Akasha sends her best wishes and some virtual dreamies for him 🐱

WickWood · 14/01/2024 08:13

@70isaLimitNotaTarget
He does have odd crinkley whiskers!

@OzziePopPop
Aww I would love to see a photo of Akasha!

These are my two Akasha is the one wrapped in a blanket, she’s got very sparse fur (half hairless breed) so gets cold. Her brother, Jax, is fully moggie/barn cat, absolutely no pedigree in a hundred years. He’s very, very proud of his luxurious fur. My fur is apparently rubbish, ‘Kasha’s is barely passable and his just amazing. No confidence issues there!

’Kasha’s whiskers look rather straight in her blanket picture but they’re more ‘stuck in a power socket’ style in real life!

Are Jasper’s similar or actual corkscrew whiskers? ‘Kasha’s were definitely curlier when she was younger, she’ll be 1 in April 😀
