Are all cats messy bastards or is it just mine?

I have to clean this up every day as it seems like they find it impossible to keep food in the bowl Confused it goes all over the floor and into the water bowls, it's ridiculous! My dog wouldn't dream of just leaving food on the floor but the kittens give no fucks. If it goes on the floor they won't clean it up Hmm

Your food bowls are too narrow. Try buying some not too deep wider bowels.

RandomMess · 10/12/2023 09:26

My cats inhale their food, nowt left ever.

Instinct1 · 10/12/2023 09:28

They don't like their water near their food so I would put the water bowls in another room. We use sort of front tilted bowls made particularly for cats for wet food which helped with the throwing it around. He has a puzzle board thing for kibble cos he's a fat bastard 🙂

Jackfrostnippingatmynose · 10/12/2023 09:29

Mine prefer to hoik their breakfast biscuits out of their plates onto the floor with their face/paws as it adds extra flavour. Wet cat food is just smeared from the bowl all over the cat mat underneath too. No dental issues AFAIK.
And don't get me going about why they will only drink rain water from the bird bath outside (or from the loo if I don't keep the lid down) rather than the bowl of fresh rainwater I put down in the kitchen. God forbid I put fresh tap water down - that's obviously the work of the devil!
Cat milk is approved only by 1 of them. DH has worked out it's more expensive per ml than his favourite plonk! 🍷

MmedeGouge · 10/12/2023 09:36

Our Lordship will only eat from a “human” saucer, he knows if it’s a purpose made cat bowl and takes all his food out of it or ignores it
He likes his food in the kitchen and his water in the utility room.
He is eying me speculatively at the moment as he knows there is left over turkey in the fridge. He will swipe me if I don’t give him some soon.

Oldraver · 10/12/2023 09:37

I now keep the cat bowls on a melamine tray especially after bastard boy cat ate a part of his soft mat

It's easy to clean, though they still manage to get wet food on the skirting board

LauraNorda · 10/12/2023 09:40

Our cats feeding area is, and always has been, in a similar state.

Pifful · 10/12/2023 09:41

Mine does that. I keep his bowl on a large tray so when I feed him I just lift the whole tray and wipe it.

Gettingbysomehow · 10/12/2023 09:43

Kittens are always messy bastards. They usually get better as they grow up.
I buy litter tray mats to put under the food, smooth side up for easy cleaning, its easier to clean up then.

CatChant · 10/12/2023 11:19

What a gorgeous pair of MBs. I do love a polydactyl.

Mine eat out of bowls usually. They don’t seem to dislike the sensation on their whiskers, but then cats are a law unto themselves.

Probably the best solution to messy eaters is to have a greedy older cat to hoover up after them.

Weirdly in our house, the kitten who came to us as a semi-feral is the cleanest eater of them all Grin

Ah I’m so glad it’s not just mine! I thought my Bengal was broken as he is insanely messy. And he loves to roll in mud too 🙄

They are very lucky they are cute messy bastards.

A cat with a thumb can be forgiven anything 😍

itsmylife7 · 10/12/2023 20:37

Sorry I quoted the wrong person. its the cuteness of those little faces and I got all 😍

AintNobodyHereButUsChickens · 11/12/2023 17:52

I remembered we have these long plates that no-one likes so I'm trying one out for the kittens. I'm not sure if sharing a plate is ideal but they don't seem to mind it, they usually eat out of twin bowls anyway so it's not much different than what they're used to!

Mine eat from the same dish, @AintNobodyHereButUsChickens , even if I put two down.

CatChant · 11/12/2023 18:23

Ohhh! Ineffably cute!

RandomMess · 11/12/2023 19:44

That's a huge pile of food 😳

When you don't know where your next meal is coming from, you aren't going to waste any!

That's a huge pile of food 😳

It looks it but it's not, it's approx 60g of dry food and one wet pouch. It just looks like loads because it's spread out.

This was a game changer for us

Instinct1 · 13/12/2023 20:33

Those are the ones we have, which I craply described as "front tilted bowl things" 🙂

SequentialAnalyst · 18/12/2023 21:59

I am puzzled, @AintNobodyHereButUsChickens You say you have a dog. Now, I am not a dog person, but most of the dogs I have met are happy to act as canine hoovers where food is concerned.

See where I'm going with this?

I can't let the dog clean up, she's on a VERY strict diet at the moment.
