Calling all cats and their overworked slaves - join us as we grudgingly accept that every day is National Cat Day as far as our moggies are concerned.

Hats off to the lovely Linney.
That cat knows exactly how to cat 😹.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 04/11/2023 21:02

And most impressed by Leroy ignoring the fireworks too. 👍
Ours are all curled up in the living room ignoring any random bangs and flashes outside.

RumNotRun · 04/11/2023 22:26

Vixen has decided to start sleeping on my kitchen shelves again and smashed my jar of cardamom pods just to make sure she had enough space. I've now rearranged the shelves so that Madam can have as much room as she wants.
I'm worried about her though. I took a photo of her and her tongue was nowhere to be seen!

Catsmere · 04/11/2023 23:41

She'll probably poke her tongue out at you shortly. She looks like she's plotting something right now.

RumNotRun · 04/11/2023 23:47

She was pissed off cause I opened the fridge to get a can of cider and didn't give her any chicken, ham, or frankfurters.

Catsmere · 05/11/2023 00:16

I'm not surprised she's pissed off! Outrageous behaviour! 🙀🙀🙀

RumNotRun · 05/11/2023 00:17

I have apologised and fed her ham and chicken. Frankenstein then came in to see where his ham and chicken were. Luckily I escaped before the rest of the tribe turned up.

Catsmere · 05/11/2023 00:18

A narrow escape!

Cats can be so destructive when they want to! It’s like they’re letting us know that they’re perfectly capable of destroying everything in their path and are doing us a huge favour when they don’t. We had a physically very elegant Siamese once who couldn’t walk along a surface without methodically knocking everything onto the floor with his paw. He also used to walk into glass doors, spray Christmas presents and power sockets (no idea why he didn’t get electrocuted, it’s probably because I obsessively make sure they’re off when not in use) and once fell asleep on the wheel of a car, resulting in him being run over when the car started (again, miraculously uninjured despite having a tyre mark on his body). No kittenhood trauma or anything, he was just very inept at cat life.
I forgot! He also brought down a muntjac fawn and got stuck on the ground with his mouth around its neck. He ended up howling for help until we arrived and assisted him. Both parties were completely unharmed. AND (I’m using up my stock of anedotes here) he was the one who used to start the day eating a few cornflakes and milk at the table with my grandfather, then methodically ripping up the Daily Telegraph for afters. I hope nana never wanted to read the Telegraph because she didn’t get the chance… my grandparents are the world’s biggest cat spoilers!

I love this outrageously Siamesy behaviour!

We once wondered why our phones had stopped working, turned out that our Siamese boy had sprayed on the socket 🤦

He was neutered at the appropriate age but I always thought that they missed a bollock, because he behaved like an entire male!

Sunday morning kitten cuddles.

CeciledeVolangesdeNouveau · 05/11/2023 09:10

@LilacpointMummy if horses are incompletely gelded they’re called “rigs” and behave like stallions. With cats I think it’s just Siameses siamesing at this point! His sister was bizarrely very sensible (although like Velvet clearly preparing for a career in opera) and spent her days curled up in my grandad’s lap and trying to assume the exact proportions of a sphere.

@TheLongRider such a cute picture I showed it to my cat!

RumNotRun · 05/11/2023 09:42

Alizè was neutered but after he first got a UTI he started spraying. My TV started getting lines on the picture and eventually failed. The repair guys took it away and embarrassingly phoned me soon after to say it stank of cat spray when they opened it up. Goodness knows how he managed to get it in the TV, but after that I had to have the TV on a wall to protect it.

Someone recommended a book on the previous thread, and I add to that recommendation, "A cat called Brum" and the sequel. It's a great book about a cat who is rubbish at catting.

It was I who recommended it. It really is the best book, about Brum and his unfortunate owner Chris.

@TheShellBeach I ended up buying a second copy so I could give it to my dad to read and pass on. A great recommendation thank you

Supersimkin2 · 05/11/2023 17:15

I’m getting it now!

Thus perfect Sunday reading.

And if both did come up, did he demand another pouch of Felix, and when?

It was mostly Felix with a load of hair mixed in.

Well, you asked.....

After Linney came back in he had a mad half hour, chasing something around the house (possibly imaginary) and then he stood pitifully by his bowl until Mr SB (who is always a soft touch) fed him.

My sister is living in Mexico doing some conservation stuff for at least a year. Most of the photos and videos she's sent have been of sea creatures, monkeys, Mexican insects etc. She's just sent me a photo of a Mexican cat. I think the markings look like a chicken nugget wearing sunglasses.
