Calling all cats and their overworked slaves - join us as we grudgingly accept that every day is National Cat Day as far as our moggies are concerned.

@CeciledeVolangesdeNouveau I think it was me you may have been referring to (joy at your descriptions).

I don't think Velvet is hiding from the toys in the sense I think you mean. She is taking up a position where they cannot see her. As it is play, it doesn't matter that she set up the situation herself. So it starts off like her setting up training in Hunting prey 101, as it were.

Then I expect, from my Cat Observations Over Many Years, she gets herself hyped up to pounce. Part of this usually involves moving slightly l to r, and r to l, this is to get parallax information, which is part of how distance is perceived.

Then when they go into full pouncing mode, they lose the plot, and go into Full Pouncing and Killing Mode. And our lives are enrichedSmile

@YesItsMeIDontCare How is your husband doing now?

Not too bad thanks, considering. His last infusion was a bit rough but nothing that the medical team aren't expecting to see, iykwim. I think the fact that he's largely bored doesn't help much either.

Leroy reckons there's nowt wrong with him 'cause he can still open a bag of treats. Priorities, an' all that. 🐈‍⬛

Supersimkin2 · 17/11/2023 00:41

Awful to go through and to watch for you both but it’s reassuring long term, Yes. Hope Crimbles gives you a bit of a breather, never could one be more deserved. Has DH read the new Stephen King, it’s a riot.

Well done Leroy for keeping standards up. He says his efforts are love in action.

Havelock’s banned from trying to
gain entry to the premises for 24 hours. A nutritional incident at 3am was followed by a cat fight at 4am. When I finally gave up trying to get any sleep, 🐈 + 🐈‍⬛ were snoring on the sofa here by 410am. NDN panicked and did search at 6 am, restful for her. H finally went home with a snack hangover and ginger fur in his teeth at 11am.

A nutritional incident at 3am 🤣
Your writing style always makes me laugh Super. Thank you.

Here's my friend's cat Brillo, who is a 17 year old lady.

It would help if I attached the picture

I'll bet Brillo has some stories to tell.

Munchkin woke me at 6am for no apparent reason other than "I'm awake, human!" and is now sleeping it off while I blearily attempt to work. I had forgotten about this aspect of cat slavery. Good job she's cute.

TheShellBeach · 17/11/2023 15:26

I'll bet Brillo has some stories to tell

When she was a few months old she got knocked down by a car and fractured a leg, which was put into plaster.

It goes without saying that she invariably used the leg which was in the cast to cover her deposits in the litter tray, and the cast needed to be replaced several times.

Her owner had a four-figure bill by the end of it all (17 years ago) and Brillo ended up with some sort of contraption round her middle to stop her using the broken leg for nefarious purposes.

And in other news, DS2's possessions arrived via Evri at lunchtime, and have been placed in the back of our car.

Mr SB had the foresight to remove the entire back seat yesterday evening. It currently reposes on the top of the wardrobe, which will annoy Linney - he likes jumping up on to it.

Suffice it to say that there is barely room for us to get in the front of the car now.

Oh well - he'll be here on Sunday afternoon. He has announced his intention of buying a bicycle, which has sent me into a somewhat predictable spiral of motherly panic.

Munchkin woke me at 6am for no apparent reason

They don't need a reason, though.

Linney woke Mr SB at 7am, allegedly hungry.

He then woke me at 9am, also allegedly hungry.

Then he miaowed for more food at 10am.

BTW Munchkin has lovely toe beans in that picture, @twobluechickens

10/10 nice tight dive position there Munchkin 😸 Nijinsky likes to sleep like that too 😺

twobluechickens · 17/11/2023 16:12

She does give excellent prawning and toe beans, it has to be said. There has been snoring too, just to remind me that I've not had enough kip.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 17/11/2023 18:52

Not sure what's going on here. Sybil and Lenny don't generally get on at all.

@Grumpyoldpersonwithcats
Tactical alliance. Be afraid. Sybil clearly means business - just look at her wee face 😸

HouseofHolbein · 17/11/2023 21:00

Morticia is being cuddled inside youngest daughter's dressing gown. She's still recovering from having a tick removed from her face last night 😱

@Catsmere Just what I needed! From the bed cover it looks as if someone is a very good knitter?

Catsmere · 18/11/2023 03:40

@SequentialAnalyst flatterer! 😆

SequentialAnalyst · 18/11/2023 03:56

So you admit it, thenGrin. That's a lot of work, very evenly knitted, and beautiful choice of coloursSmileStar

Catsmere · 18/11/2023 04:00

Yes! I put my hand up! 😆

The yarn's Noro Ito, different colourways on the bedspread. Lovely though they are, I don't recommend it - three years and several washes later it's still devilish scratchy stuff.

The girls like it, though, which is of course the most impurrtant thing.

CeciledeVolangesdeNouveau · 18/11/2023 08:10

Great job @catsmere!

Over at Chateau Velvet, the day has barely started and we’ve already invented a new sport - duvet hunting. I’m sitting up in bed with a coffee and mumsnet and she’s repeatedly tunnelling under the duvet and ambushing her prey from within before attempting to drag it off. The unfortunate bystanders e.g my legs are sadly suffering some collateral damage.

Yesterday’s focus was tail-chasing. Despite some hair-raising moments at the top of the stairs I can report that the tail was well and truly caught by the end of the day, so much that she switched to a new discipline of trying to catch toys with her forelegs wrapped around something (scratching post or table leg). Particularly on the scratching post this resulted in a lot of dragging herself around in circles.

She finished the day sitting in the paper recycling basket thing contemplating the importance of sustainability.

I’d also like to regale you with the information that Velvet got overexcited yesterday and zoomed from room to room for a solid ten minutes. I was in bed on speakerphone with my boyfriend doing the crossword and every time she flashed by I laughed a bit more until he finally asked what was so funny and I said it was Velvet. He said “so THAT’S what the noise was!”. I don’t know how she manages to make so much noise as such a tiny cat but she truly thunders around the house!
