Hi all.

My little boy has had stomach issues since we had him turned out he had campylobacter from the breeder giving him a raw food diet. He's had 2 lots of antibiotics and the old in his stool has stopped. Vet thinks he will now have IBD and he stills has the runs
It varies in texture throughout the day. He's on Royal canin GI wet food and I have just started giving him cooked chicken breast for a few days to see if that will help.

I have comes across untamed cat food and looks to be high protein and maybe even carbon free which would be good for him as he is a Scottish fold (straight)

Has anyone else used or use this food. Is.is really low carb?

Hi OP.
My cat caught a nasty virus and was ill for weeks.
I ordered Untamed cat food and it really is good quality.Expensive but worth it for me.
It's by subscription, and their customer service is absolutely fab, can't fault them.Emails are answered within minutes sometimes.
You can pause or stop the sub at any time, no problem at all.The food even smells nice, is solid chicken or pure fish.Big chunks of it too.
The thing to be aware of though is that the food in jelly is complementary, but the food in gravy is complete with all vitamins and minerals. The gravy is clear more like broth. No nasties, colours or sugars.
It's in small tins, so recyclable and carbon neutral delivery vans.
You can get a trial box for £8 I believe, for 12 small tins, but the food is packed to the top.
You can tell that I am a fan.My cat is very healthy now.
He does get a bit bored occasionally as it's only chicken or fish, but they have extra bits in them eg chicken and cheese or ham,and they do tuna with little shrimps in

Slowlylosingmymind101 · 08/10/2023 21:18

Amazing. Thank you @Clarich007 how long does it normally take to arrive? I ordered yesterday
Hoping it will come tomorrow or Tuesday.

Can I ask what virus he caught? I'm at my wits end because he isn't well and the vet wanted to do expensive blood tests even though we know what's wrong and the antibiotics I think have worked as the blood in his stool has disappeared but he still has a funny tummy. He is so sweet and sits on my lap and let's the kids carry him around.

My 18 month Maine Coon has been on Untamed since he was 4 months old and absolutely loves it. He has had no issues with it and took to it straight away. He prefers the Fishy flavours in gravy. Untamed is an excellent company to deal with. He is also on dry food Concept for Life (MC) and he is weighing in at just over 10kg which is about right for his breed and age.

SmithfamilyRobinson · 09/10/2023 11:12

My fussy cat who doesn't do tidbits etc loves Untamed. She's a fish girl and loves the Fishy sardine one. Although the tuna with shrimp was the work of the devil. She does also expect biscuits though. She'll eat half a tin at a time. I like the recyclable cans and the minimal cardboard packaging. Also tried Katkin but thought that was a nuisance and she wasn't as keen.

Clarich007 · 09/10/2023 11:43

Oh that's great, I hope he likes it as much as my cat does.
He is a wanderer and drinks dirty water from buckets etc, (witnessed), so the vet thought he could have picked it up by doing that. His virus was Clostridium Perfringens. He had constant runs for 8 weeks .It was horrendous.10 complete litter tray changes a day !!
He is fine now, lovely soft silky fur too.
We tried Katkin before that but he was sick every time he tried it.
I really hope your cat likes Untamed. They also sent me a cute little tote bag too 😻
Let us know how you go on with it

Clarich007 · 09/10/2023 11:44

Thanks for the cat tax, he's beautiful

Slowlylosingmymind101 · 09/10/2023 13:24

Thanks everyone. @Clarich007 that gives me hope!! I will hube him a week on it and see how we go before going back to the vets
They have been difficult and seem just interested in me spending £800 on blood tests when there's literally nothing to suspect that there anything underlying. And she did say he will probably have IBD so im assuming that's the problem.now he's had antibiotics. If diet change doesn't help then obviously I will go back. But apart from diarrhea he is acting normal and plays etc so think sedation and bloods unnecessary cost and stress. He hates going to the vets and gets the runs more than ever as soon as we get there.

I had a Himalayan cat who had a lot of stomach issues. I used to treat him with Prokolin paste (bought online) when it flared up and he had a 1/3 of a sachet of powdered Yudigest for dogs in his food every day. It definitely stabilised him. Hope this might be helpful to you.

Slowlylosingmymind101 · 09/10/2023 19:29

Thank you. He's been on prokolin for about a month now. But has started to refuse to eat it.

Not tried untamed but just wanted to say that my girl likes hills i/d a lot better than royal canin gi so might be a good back up
option? The wet comes in salmon or chicken flavour and the dry is chicken based
Gabapentin can really help cats who are stressed by vet trips. My new girl is a terrible traveller without it but 50mg makes her much calmer. Needs to be prescribed by your vet of course

Slowlylosingmymind101 · 09/10/2023 21:04

Amazing ! Thank you @Queenofmews !!

How's he doing now? Did the change in diet to untamed help him? My little girl has the same issue and it's been a month now on prokolin, chicken diet mixed with her purina and I'm not sure what's wrong with her. The loose stools doesn't seem to clear out totally. The vet Just started her on a small dose of antibiotics and I am considering new wet food for her just incase rusts eye issue. They took a fecal sample but in worried they ask for blood tests and scans like your said... She didn't do well with anesthetics..

Hello!!
@Jardineesaid
Ok so we tried it and it didn't help at all.

So we are back on royal canin GI wet food.

So I don't know if others would agree but I found these online...
https://gb-nhvnaturalpetproducts.glopalstore.com/irritable-bowel-syndrome-in-dogs-cats

They came on Monday. I put 0.5 mls per supplement In his GI food 2 times a day. And I have to say I was dubious about it. But it had made a huge difference. Its all natural. He did his first ever normal poo the next day. And he has a mix of diarrheah once or twice a day but then a couple of normal poos too. It's only been just under a week. So I'm hoping long term this is the answer for my cat.
Its not cheap. But nor are the vet bills!

I'm keeping an eye on him but he seems much happier!

Meant to add. After campylobacter apparently it's quite normal to develop IBD and I wanted to try something natural before forking out £800 on blood tests for it to say IBD.

I'm glad I did. And obviously I will go back to the vet if I don't see him getting better properly or it gets worse. But it's seems to be working. I don't think pro kolin is strong enough for IBD which is not the same as IBS

@Slowlylosingmymind101 ohhh wow. That's sad. I hoped it worked. I'm glad you found something that did. I'll hold on to this link until the fecal results come back and take it from there.
Thank you so much for your help.
Good luck for your little baby.

Slowlylosingmymind101 · 14/11/2023 20:45

@Jardineesaid how's your cat doing? Mine was fine for a few days but back to being poorly. I took him to a new cat clinic that's opened near me for a new opinion and she wasn't happy with the information and treatment given at the other vets. She's trying a different antibiotics and we are going back next week for a check up.

She also said that she has done a fecal transplant before. Where they take feces from a healthy and tested cat and interet it into the ill cat and the bacteria takes over the poorly cat to help grow gut friendly bacteria. Or something like that. She uses her own cat as a donor as he's tested regularly and she said if it comes to it as a last resort, it's a possibility and she's done it before

Although hoping it doesn't come to that!

@Slowlylosingmymind101 My girl is on a new type of antibiotics now as well as steroids. in addition to the Prokolin and Royal Canin GI food, sadly untammed just messed her up bad, real bad so I had to stop it immediately.
this round of medication finishes next week and i am waiting to see if it works. her poo is still on the soft side but not been much diarrhea for the past couple of days.
I noticed things go bad once i reduce or stop the prokolin, i am not sure whats going on really.

what did the other vet say and why arent they happy with the previous one's treatment?

Slowlylosingmymind101 · 17/11/2023 13:33

Oh I'm sorry to hear that

She wasn't really. She couldn't understand why they didn't try a different antibiotics before rushing for blood tests under sedation. She also said if they are looking for IBD it won't come up an dblood tests never diagnose but rather help piece information together to form a diagnosis.

His poo is still not great bit he is more active and seems happier. So we will see. She also said even if these antibiotics do or don't work he might never have an OK tummy. She did say about a fecal transplant. But that would be a last resort

Hope your little one responds to the medidation
