My cats are vegan!

Of course they're not. But they're absolutely mad for oat milk. We've got into the habit of having catuccino in the morning, aka a teaspoon of oat milk each while I make my coffee. Does this do them any harm, do you think?

They also go crazy for chickpeas and asparagus.

Anyone else's cats have veggie tastes?

One of my cats is always looking for scraps of food - he'll eat anything! He even helps the dog by passing food to her, like my sons waffle recently that was left for 2 minutes unprotected ... gone!
I wouldn't mind but the ex
Feral cat is fussy, the non- feral one eats everything and catches mice ... I think my ex feral is actually enjoying the pawper (lol) to prince move!

I think with olives it’s something like the herbs they’re marinated in. Once we’d had olives and my old cats both went mad for the plastic tub they’d come in - Sainsbury’s deli olives.

Chips etc it’s salt, cats like salt. My old ones loved Pringles and cake.

I think my current cat is quite normal but she does like cheese sauce. And the new Felix cat soups.

Definitely the salt, my neighbour's cat used to appear when we got back from the beach and lick our legs 🤨

Ollie was obsessed with jacket potato with beans Confused
And also milkshake. If I ever got a Frappuccino I had to drink it standing up

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 15/07/2023 16:15

One of ours used to love broccoli and green beans. The current one is a demon for hand cream, if she catches a whiff of it on your hand she'll lick all the skin off you.

TroysMammy · 15/07/2023 18:44

Butter chicken sauce. I heard slurping and he was helping himself to the remnants of sauce in the pan. He also has a sly lick of plates when we've finished anything tomatoey.

Here you go,

The Nepeta cataria plant, more commonly known as catnip, belongs to the Lamiaceae plant family. This family also includes herbs such as rosemary, oregano, basil, and sage. This family of plant also contains Nepeta musinii, or catmint, which can also attract cats.

DelurkingAJ · 15/07/2023 19:02

One of ours has a catnip type reaction to the damp post swimming at the swimming pool costumes and towels. She’ll drag them out of the swim bags to roll in them.

Caramelsmadfuzzytail · 15/07/2023 19:09

We used to have a cat mint plant at the bottom of the garden. Various neighbourhood cats used to lay on it.
One if our cats used to spend hours cleaning our hair if we'd been swimming.

GalileoHumpkins · 15/07/2023 19:29

Ours likes a sneaky lick of carrot cake frosting. He also demands to smell our breath after we use mouthwash.

felinelucky · 16/07/2023 07:23

@LunaNorth ha! That explains a few things then!

I can imagine my little girlcat going for carrot cake frosting. She zeroes in on anything remotely dairy related.

My cat loves vegan bacon. It’s the only thing he’s ever upended the food bin to get at. He’s not bothered about normal bacon.

felinelucky · 16/07/2023 07:45

LOL about the vegan bacon. As @LMNT says, they don't all seem to have got the message that they're obligate carnivores.

My old cat used to steal chips from my plate. If we had fish and chips she'd ignore the fish.

I had a cat who used to eat chips too!

iloveeverykindofcat · 16/07/2023 07:55

Mine are oddities. They like nothing except cat food. Not that I've offered them much - I'm vegan so I thought they wouldn't like what I eat. But once I got some sardines to train them to use the catflap and they were even lukewarm about those. I thought they'd go mad for them.

My friends cat get a few prawns every Friday. She somehow knows when it's Friday and sits on the kitchen table every Friday at 5pm sharp, awaiting her prawns.

I think it's the oil. Mine goes absolutely wild for oil... would chomp your hand off for taste of coconut oil.

I have one who is a fiend for yogurt. Not Lick-E-Licks, actual people yogurt.
Another will lick our bowls no matter how spicy the contents, but his brother tried that with a Thai green curry once and did what we now call Spice Face. The fourth doesn't interact with human food at all.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 16/07/2023 23:52

We rehomed our cat directly from a friend who had a wild toddler and a new baby on the way. She didn’t climb, she didn’t hunt, and she didn’t eat anything except three flavours of Felix.

Fast forward six years, and she loves to sit on the shed roof, hunts like a little demon, and will steal pretty much any food right off your plate. Every week I poach a chicken piece and bake a (specially bought) piece of white fish for her, but her favourite thing is lactose-free cheese. She once almost took my hand off for goats cheese, then spat it straight on the floor - her face was an absolute picture!

I've had to eat dinner standing up tonight. Little Tennyson likes korma apparently.

caringcarer · 17/07/2023 02:20

My female cat loves scrambled eggs. If I leave any she's all over it. Male cat would probably like it too but she won't give him a look in.

MrsTerryPratchett · 17/07/2023 02:58

My gorgeous first cat was weaned on noodles and mayonnaise. No idea why. She would only eat fish cat food as well. Fussy weirdo.

felinelucky · 17/07/2023 06:27

judystilldreams she's a lucky little cat and clearly thriving! That pic reminds me of my big boy cat when I get myself an M&S chicken and stuffing sandwich. He hovers and tries to hook bits of chicken out.
