My cats are vegan!

Of course they're not. But they're absolutely mad for oat milk. We've got into the habit of having catuccino in the morning, aka a teaspoon of oat milk each while I make my coffee. Does this do them any harm, do you think?

They also go crazy for chickpeas and asparagus.

Anyone else's cats have veggie tastes?

One of our ex-cats liked chip shop chips. Another would lick out a bowl of Heinz tomato soup, or tomato pasta. Weird.

I've discovered that little Tennyson (15 weeks old yesterday) likes Heinz tomato soup.

I've got 4. They eat anything left over from our plates. Tomato sauce from eg spaghetti bolognese is a firm favourite. I reckon they only have such eclectic tastes though because they know they are in competition with each other.

reesewithoutaspoon · 14/07/2023 21:07

My old cat loved asparagus, sour nerdz and salt and vinegar discos. she would also go completely crazy if she smelled tea tree oil.

My dcat has a plate at the table and veg every night....

Oh my gosh! That sounds unbelievably cute!

felinelucky · 14/07/2023 21:29

Loving the beautiful cat pics!

Wow: olives are a new one on me!

Mind you, I think my cats' main criterion is that if someone else has it, it must be worth eating.

Mine goes mad for cucumber. And if anyone (I'm looking at you, kids) leaves any custard in a bowl she's a little furry custard-hoover.

Soubriquet · 14/07/2023 21:39

Well…my cat must be broken cos any titbits she nicks off me is meat. She particularly likes Chinese chicken fried rice/chow Mein chicken

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 14/07/2023 21:40

I think with olives it’s something like the herbs they’re marinated in. Once we’d had olives and my old cats both went mad for the plastic tub they’d come in - Sainsbury’s deli olives.

Chips etc it’s salt, cats like salt. My old ones loved Pringles and cake.

I think my current cat is quite normal but she does like cheese sauce. And the new Felix cat soups.

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 14/07/2023 21:43

I’m sure my old cats in the past would eat Chinese takeaway leftovers and Indian ones too. Don’t ask me what they are but I definitely saw them trying to have it hot and when it cooled down.

The custard is the milk in it and sometimes they like vanilla and sweet things.

i stupidly thought my first two cats didn’t do things like begging because cats don’t beg?! I was wrong. They also tried things like apple cake and liked it. Weirdos.

Toad likes coffee cake. Vixen has a penchant for yoghurt, ice cream, mayo. Pigeon (RIP) used to love cheese, she'd take it out of your hand, and eggs particularly fried eggs.

Frankenstein loves anything on my plate including broccoli, peas, and on one occasion lettuce but I think he only ate that cause he didn't want to be embarrassed that he'd stolen something he didn't like

felinelucky · 14/07/2023 22:05

but I think he only ate that cause he didn't want to be embarrassed that he'd stolen something he didn't like 😆

Oh, and I forgot: they are crazy about trying to steal homemade meringues - obviously verboten given the sugar content, but I wonder if it's the smell of the egg white, or maybe the scrunchy texture.

Pigeon did once try to steal a kinder egg from my friend but I think that was curiosity rather than actually wanting it. She put her little "hand" on my friend's hand and pushed down quite strongly before trying to take a bite out of the chocolate.

If you were eating anything out of a bowl, she'd use her hand to push the bowl down until she could inspect the contents and decide if she wanted any or not.

I know all cats use their front paws to get things, but Pigeon used hers way more like grabby hands than any other cat I've ever known. I miss that little weirdo.

One of my cats love melon. She loves her meat too tho

bluebeardswife7 · 14/07/2023 23:30

One of mine has the horn for olives. He doesn't eat them, just drools and rubs up against them in a very sexy way Confused

bluebeardswife7 · 14/07/2023 23:30

Also pukka teabags

Usernamesarenoteasy · 15/07/2023 00:05

Custard creams. My fat cat will do anything for a custard cream. Steals them right out of your hands if you're not careful

Shodan · 15/07/2023 00:19

At least all of the above are actual foodstuffs. One of mine is like a crack addict for vaseline, the little weirdo. I use it a lot as a moisturiser and she'll go bonkers trying to lick it off my hands.

Mind you, she's very fond of sticking her head completely inside an empty packet of Frazzles too.

Ok, we need to do a Google search to see which Mediterranean herbs are members of the catnip family...

Reminds me of a friend's dog. Gave her leftovers from a carvery and a bit of cabbage fell into her water bowl.

She drink that WHOLE bowl of water to get that last bit of cabbage.

Mine is a fiend for baked beans, inexplicably. He will steal them right off your plate if you're not careful.

One of mine loves beans!

Toddlerteaplease · 15/07/2023 08:32

Cheddar mikes pasta and bread. However they do t like her!

Our tomato soup cat was a total stoner on Olbas Oil or Tiger Balm. I used to give her a hanky with a tiny bit on, just to watch the fun! Catnip left her completely cold, oddly.

cushioncovers · 15/07/2023 14:43

Both my cats love oat milk. Have no idea why.

Toddlerteaplease · 15/07/2023 15:20

@moggerhanger oo I think k my cat likes tiger balm. I put some on once and she was all over me.
