She is just gorgeous, enjoy being a cat slave😁

LilacpointMummy · 01/07/2023 13:11

Mine currently like the Zooplus own brand one Wild Freedom - it has a high % of meat and is grain-free. I think they do a kitten one.

For wet food, Blink is very good, although mine won't currently eat it 🤦‍♀️ but they are v fussy.

LilacpointMummy · 01/07/2023 13:14

My kitten is currently on Applaws dry kitten food which I would recommend for your baby. It has 80% meat and is grain-free.

The only problem is all the others love it too and my older ones (one in particular) really don't need the extra calories!

Brilliant thankyou @LilacpointMummy!
She's currently having her afternoon nap 😴

Can you get hold of pumpkin (not the kind for making pumpkin pie)? That is supposed to be good for treating digestive ailments. If not, warm chicken broth and plain white fish are also supposed to be easily digestible.

The most important thing is to keep your cat hydrated.

popgoesperfection · 02/07/2023 20:39

Luckily she's been drinking plenty. I'm so worried that theres something upsetting her tummy. Could it be a change in her food, she's having different to what she was eating before we bought her?

Furries · 02/07/2023 21:20

Yes, they can react to change in food. Generally, if changing food, the idea is to do it in stages - mixing a bit of new food in with what they’re used to and then gradually increasing the amount of new stuff.

SmirnoffIceIsNice · 02/07/2023 21:49

Your kitty is adorable ! I have a black shorthair named Pixie, although she often gets called Pippi too.

It looks like she's playing well now. It's so easy to amuse them without spending lots of money. A piece of silver foil scrunched up into a ball and flicked across the floor always gets my kitty running. Also those thick hairbands, stretched and flicked. You will find she'll love any cardboard box, no matter how small. We would cut some holes in a large box and let her go inside and then poke something through the holes randomly (don't use your finger unless you like getting clawed lol) They seem to like the anticipation and jumping at the intruders.

I hope her tummy is better soon. Change of food can definitely unsettle them. Make sure not to give her cows milk either, as they can't tolerate it.

popgoesperfection · 03/07/2023 19:26

thankyou @Furries and @SmirnoffIceIsNice. The lady i bought her off had actually been giving her cows milk so could that be what the problem is? I'm quite worried cos i did the silly thing and googled.

Cats will often get digestive problems when their diet is changed. And the person you bought her from should not have been giving her cow's milk, which is not good for cats.

popgoesperfection · 03/07/2023 19:45

I don't know why they gave her milk, i had read that it wasn't good for them so i haven't been giving her any.

Let us know what the vet says tomorrow x

popgoesperfection · 04/07/2023 19:46

update from the vets - Pixies health check went well, she's gaining weight and is a good size according to vet. she had her vaccination and microchip. I mentioned about the loose stools, she suggested it was probably a cause of change of environment, change of diet and possibly milk from previous owner. she advised to continue with just dried food and monitor. she was exhausted after the visit.

Brilliant.

Furries · 05/07/2023 00:48

She is so cute and I love her extravagant ear fluff! I hope her stomach issues continue to improve.

I would be tempted to contact the breeder to ask why they were giving cow’s milk. I doubt it will stop them, but I would have to say something.

ComeTheFckOnBridget · 05/07/2023 01:02

What a cutie :)

You can get cats milk if she's fond of dairy. And unless I have a cat that is especially sensitive I've always allowed them a lick or two of yoghurt/cream/butter/custard from my finger ;) I'd wait until she's much bigger though!

Watch her with pipecleaners. Pp may have sensible cats but I've also had one or two who liked to try and eat the string / wool whatever they were playing with and chewing on a pipe cleaner if she's so inclined won't be good!

Get a laser pen - cats love chasing the dot! Just watch it doesn't go in her eyes.

Make sure you handle her paws a lot, gently pushing your fingers between her toes and pushing her claws out, which will get her used to checkups and nail trimming!

Dry food is great for helping keep cats teeth clean so I always make sure some is available.

And I suppose if ever there's going to be a time to get her used to having her teeth cleaned, now would be it! Have fun with that lol (most cat owners don't attempt this)

I had one cat who was never bothered by the hoover...she was deaf lol

popgoesperfection · 07/07/2023 14:47

Thankyou for the advice @ComeTheFckOnBridget!
She's doing great, loads of energy and coming for cuddles on a night. she's still having loose stools though with tiny bits of blood, i wormed and flead her on tuesday, could it be the food she's having? would anyone recommend trying a dry food for sensitive stomachs?

OP posts:
Florissante · 07/07/2023 14:49

In addition to dry food, try boiled shredded white chicken meat. I wonder if the worming is causing the loose, bloody stools.

popgoesperfection · 07/07/2023 14:59

just normal chicken from the supermarket?
does worming cause that sometimes? she's absolutely fine in herself, eating, drinking, playing.

OP posts:
Florissante · 07/07/2023 15:02

Yes, just normal chicken from the supermarket is fine. I say worming only because worms live in the digestive tract, so worming medication may be upsetting her tummy. But if the vet isn't concerned I am probably just being overly worried.

And if she's eating, drinking and playing I am sure that the loose stools are just a passing (no pun intended) issue.

ComeTheFckOnBridget · 07/07/2023 15:06

If there's blood in her stools, I'd give the vet a call and ask if you need to bring her in again. It might just be a little trauma to the bowel from the diarrhoea but I'm no expert and bleeding should always be checked out.

popgoesperfection · 07/07/2023 20:25

I've gave the vets a call and they didn't seem too overly concerned, suggested it could be from having diarrhoea. I'm tempted to give her a couple of days of plain food just to help her tummy settle.
