Cat emerging from shed everyday

For the last 2 week there has been a black and white smallish cat come out of our shed (door always slightly ajar), i've watched it from the kitchen window wander around the garden a bit, stretch, have a lay down then go back into the shed, i've kept watching for a while and it stays in there. Today i was sat out in the garden when it's come out of the shed again, it doesn't look to have a collar and was quite shy. I offered it some food and water, it scoffed the food and pottered around for a bit but didn't come close to me. Could it be homeless and living in my shed? How would i know it were homeless?

Have you looked inside the shed to make sure there are no kittens in there? Might be nesting in there?

popgoesperfection · 17/06/2023 20:07

yeah i've had a quick look about, can't see or hear anything. i'll try and get a picture of him/her when i see it again

Free cat.

popgoesperfection · 18/06/2023 16:41

what should i do with it? feed it? see if it wants to come in the house?

Yes, feed it. Offer water in a bowl. If it’s living in your shed it’s either lost or abandoned. Either way it’s hasn’t got a home to go to.

If it wants to go in your house it will. Cats are like that.

SparklingLime · 18/06/2023 17:19

Ideally you should take it into a vets to check for a chip, it may be lost. If you check for your local lost pets group on Facebook they may have someone who can come out and check for a chip. You can also publicise it there in case an owner is desperately looking.

it did come in the house a few days ago and wandered around the kitchen until my dc cried and it scared it back out. I've not been able to get it to come right to me so i'm not able to pick it up and take it to a vet.

FormerlyPathologicallyHappy · 18/06/2023 18:16

Don’t worry about that just yet, focus on gaining trust and feeding up for a few days first.

Youd need a carrier box to take it to the vet anyway. Do you have a friend with a cat who’d lend one?

popgoesperfection · 18/06/2023 19:39

my manager has a cat, i'll ask her tomorrow if she has a carrier v
i've been out to see if i can see her/him we've heavy rain here and i'm feeling sorry for it.

They can have ham or tuna or plain cooked meat if you haven’t got cat food.

They can’t have anything with onion or garlic in it, very poisonous.

popgoesperfection · 18/06/2023 20:12

I have some ham i can put out and i've put fresh water in a bowl.

Honestly, your local cat Facebook group will help out with finding if it is lost. Someone might be desperately looking. If you have someone local with a chip scanner then you can avoid a vet trip. Can also look at: searchandscan.co.uk/

If you do put in a cat carrier be really careful it is secure as escaping on the way would make it even more lost.

Careerdilemma · 18/06/2023 20:17

If you find your local cat Facebook group someone may well come out to scan it for you. Lots of volunteers doing this.

popgoesperfection · 18/06/2023 20:30

Thankyou for advice, i don't have facebook but will ask my mum to have a look for me.

Have managed to have a look on my local facebook group, looked through right back to last june and can't see any of this particular cat.

But if you (or your mum) post a photo and ask them if they know of someone local with a scanner that will get things moving.

If no owner, are you being tempted to keep him/her?

popgoesperfection · 18/06/2023 21:01

Unfortunately i haven't got a picture, i can add a description and area i'm in. Is there anything else i should add?
I don't know. i've never had a cat before although my 8 year old is desperate to adopt him/her.

😊 This little one is lucky to have you looking out for them.

coffeecupsandwaxmelts · 19/06/2023 08:07

It needs to be scanned for a chip - if it's stray then you could adopt it but please check for an owner first.

One of mine once decided to live in the neighbours shed for fours days instead of walking the six feet back home 🙄😂

FormerlyPathologicallyHappy · 19/06/2023 13:52

@coffeecupsandwaxmelts Was it a male cat?

He was! Why?

FormerlyPathologicallyHappy · 19/06/2023 17:16

Males are a bit lazy like that. 6ft, huge epic distance when you know the humans going to come and get you.
