I have found the ULTIMATE cat litter

And I wanted to tell everyone!

I’ve literally spent years searching for the holy grail of cat litter; I have three cats who could fill an Olympic swimming pool with piss in a couple of days and no litter was lasting more than three days without stinking the place out. We’re talking daily scooping and full tray changes twice a week.

HOWEVER

I bought the Sanicat Active White Lotus Flower litter on a whim a month ago. The clumping power is incredible, it smells amazing even when it’s full of wee and poo. Everything comes out in a scoop and leaves lovely clean, fresh litter behind in the tray. I’ve done one full tray change after a whole month of using it. One!

Just wanted to share because I’m sure there’s someone else out there needing this 😂

That's what I use! Amazing for my 2 indoor cats. In case you didn't know argos is the cheapest place to buy - £11.50 for 10 litres

whirlyhead · 16/05/2023 20:31

I use worlds best cat litter as you can chuck it down the loo. It’s the best (though not cheap)

I hated that! So mushy and didn’t clump as well as I’d hoped 🤮 this stuff literally clumps up like concrete and leaves no residue!

Oooh thank you for the tip! I just bought 12L on Zooplus for £15 so will head to Argos next time 🤩

Ooh interesting. I too am still looking for my holy grail. Quite liked World's Best, but bought Sanicat unscented last week to try that out too. Didn't realise you could put World's Best down the loo though, that might be a game-changer as I'm thinking of moving the litter tray from kitchen to bathroom.

Definitely going to stay with clumping, I don't know why I was going with unclumping for so long.

Toddlerteaplease · 17/05/2023 08:17

I like intersand classic.

JoeyRamonesHair · 17/05/2023 14:09

Fuzzball tofu-based cat litter is fantastic. It just soaks everything up in seconds. Amazing stuff. It comes in their trial box. If you email them they'll set you up with a subscription to just the litter though.

miccoops · 17/05/2023 15:04

Oh this is very good to know, litter drives me crazy! Will give it a try

ButtonMoonLoon · 17/05/2023 15:13

Thanks for the recommendation!

I've been using the Sanicat 7 day cat litter for years - every time I've tried something else it hasn't worked as well so I've gone back to it.
I'll definitely give this one a try!

beguilingeyes · 17/05/2023 15:17

We use Catsan clumping but I'll take a look at the recommendation. Thanks

Soubriquet · 17/05/2023 15:20

I’m not overly keen on scented cat litter…is it very overpowering?

Showerroomlove · 17/05/2023 15:28

Whilst it’s possible to flush World’s Best down the loo, it’s not recommended for the way it is managed through the sewage process. I’ve used it for years so would recommend it (although it used to be even more clumping when I first started using it, then they changed the formulation). Litter Locker beside the trays works for me now - with a pedal bin liner rather than their bags.

How does it work with the litter locker, doesn't the smell escape each time you open it to add litter?

InsertSomethingMotivationalHere · 17/05/2023 19:27

I don't get the whole clumping thing! Does nobody else use wood chip? I find it never smells and works so much better than the gravelly stuff

I like wood pellets, unfortunately my cat doesn't, she uses it but won't cover anything.

I like the clumping as it end up smelling less as you're removing everything, not just roughly the area where they wee'd.

QueefQueen80s · 17/05/2023 20:27

I don't understand why litter that doesn't clump even exists.. the pee goes on everything and the whole litter needs changing quickly. I do love discovering the perfect clumping one!

Surely anything is better than the smell of cat piss?! 😂

It’s quite a delicate fragrance, but you can definitely smell it if you’re next to it.

Nope, my cats send it flying across the bathroom 😩

Cats best clumps well and is flushable but does track a lot . I’m trying intersand classic atm . It clumps well , isn’t flushable but tracking seems less

To an extent, the Litter Locker does smell a bit for the few seconds that you have both the lid and the “chute mechanism” open, however, it’s more convenient than traipsing from the utility room to the bin if I want to scoop the clumps.

I stopped flushing any cat litter down the toilet after a friend managed to block hers with a woodchip based litter, and I’ve read how sewage treatment doesn’t effectively deal with all the parasites in cat poo.

CAT LITTER ..... PLEASE READ!

Some cat litters can contain ingredients that are harmful to cats, people, including your children or the environment:

Clay litter.
Contains sodium bentonite, a chemical that causes clumping and is dangerous if ingested or inhaled. Clay litter can also be environmentally harmful because it's strip mined from natural environments and ends up in our landfills. Check the complete packaging to see if the cat litter contains bentonite. If it does then avoid big time!

Silica litter.
Contains crystalline silica, which can create dust that's harmful to inhale. Inhaling silica dust can cause health issues for the lungs and kidneys. That includes your pets, children and you! Avoid big time!

Paper litter.
Again, contains sodium bentonite, which is a health hazard for people and cats. Paper litter is also not very absorbent and doesn't control odors very well. Again avoid big time!

Much safer alternatives.

If you're looking for a safer cat litter, you can consider options made from natural ingredients like corn, wheat, or wood, wood pellets are however quite dusty. Corn cat litter is safe for both cats and humans, and is very absorbent, 99% dust free. Amorphous silica gel cat litter, also known as crystal litter, is non-toxic if ingested or inhaled. Having lots of furry babies, I have tried every type of cat litter, in my opinion, Tofu Corn Pellets are the best. Not the cheapest, but cheap is never a good thing. Super absorbent, soft on the paws, very small pellets about 1mm diameter and 1cm long. Yes it tracks, but every litter does. It's part of owning a furry fluffy cat. Babies poo, and that stinks, but that is part of having a baby.

Please don't buy scented cat litter, make sure it's unscented. Scented might smell lovely to you, but your cat's sense of smell is 9–16 times stronger than a human's. Cats have more than 200 million odor-sensitive cells in their noses, while humans have only about 5 million. So imagine how over powering the litter is to your furry baby. This also applies if you use any type of air fresheners.

I put about 2.5cm - 1 inch depth of corn litter, and the best way I have found to easily clean the pee clumps, is to :

  1. Take the litter tray to your bathroom. 2) Tip it slightly so the litter falls to one side and away from the clump. This leaves the clump on it's own, don't use a scoop, but cover with toilet tissue, give it a slight twist that releases it from the tray. Wipe the litter tray where the clump has been with a flushable toilet wet wipe. Flush the clump down your toilet. For poo, then simply use your scoop.

I have not yet found a track free litter, big deal! Simply buy a litter mat, there are a few different types. Honeycomb double layer design and one layer silicone or you can try a microfiber noodle bath mat.

I hope this information will help, and please look after your fur babies, they are like children but will always need you.

Amazing! Finally an actual use for tofu.

We use wood chip. Love it. Our cat was pre-trained with it though. Really don't like the idea of anything scented!

This is an old thread with a couple of mentions of flushing cat waste.

I'm pretty confident you SHOULD NOT flush cat waste in the UK.

I am pretty confident of that too. It can get cat parasites into the waterways and harm or kill wildlife.
