Caught her!

So we have had a cat pinching our cats food for months. At first we didn't think she was a stray but over time we started thinking she was - was still coming when it was snow outside etc etc. last couple months we think she has been living in our shed (it has a hole at the back)

Well we took the plunge and borrowed a trap to catch her - we got her this morning and whilst it would be nice if she has a home and is just lost we are kind of hoping she doesn't so we can keep her. (We caught a straylast year but he was a boy so had to go for homing as our boy would not have put up with it)

Cattery coming to check her over soon.....

You caught a cat? Why would you do that?

Just shoo her away from your garden when you see her.

This is the litter tray thread. Why would you not catch a cat that appears to be a stray living in your shed in the cold when she could be found a home or returned from the one she is missing from?

Because it's possibly a stray and, presumably, OP will adopt if possible

helpfulperson · 20/04/2023 08:03

She is lovely. As you say either she can be returned to her family or find a new one.

Because stray domestic animals don’t do very well without care & she needs a home.

We hope to keep her if our two will agree - the boy watches her saunter past him so he will be fine. Girl cat just needs to get used to her hopefully.

She's been making herself at home in our garden anyway lately

Hopefully she has a family that she can be reunited with.

christmastreefarm · 20/04/2023 12:30

It has a happy ending. He is a he not a she but he was chipped and they have contacted owner and he's going home tonight. He only lives a short way away but over a main road so obviously could not get home.

He's been missing since start of July.

Aw that's nice that you've managed to reunite a cat with its owner. He's been missing for a long time so they probably thought he was dead. They will be so pleased 😻

cattygorically · 20/04/2023 12:39

That's lovely that they can be reunited, you're a good egg op Smile

LaylaLjungberg · 20/04/2023 12:39

Good job! She’s a lucky gal and I hope it works out for you all.

They are responsibly dealing with the situation rather than shooing it out. NOT MY PROBLEM doesn’t help If the cat needs a home or help.

christmastreefarm · 20/04/2023 12:46

I might have promised my daughter that if he did have a home we could get another one ourselves (please note it's been in my mind for a year or so not an impulse decision!)

My thoughts exactly.

Florissante · 20/04/2023 13:51

Hooray for reuniting the cat and his staff!

Nimbostratus100 · 20/04/2023 13:55

what a beautiful puss!

we caught a visiting stray a few years ago, another beautiful animal. They were so loving and friendly when we took them inside, that I knew they must have involved, interacting owners somewhere, and the vet recognised them, and they were returned to their bereaved servants, about 5 miles away. Nice ending, but we would have adopted the cat if no owners were found

FormerlyPathologicallyHappy · 20/04/2023 13:55

Aww, his owner must be very happy right now. It was so cold over winter to be outside.

When it was very cold over winter we shut the door to our kitchen diner and left catflap open. So he could shelter overnight without our cats chasing him away (they were locked in the rest if the house)

That @GonnaBeYoniThisChristmas is why you take the time to catch a cat, rather than shoo it away.

Wonderful outcome, OP. I can't imagine how excited the cat's family will be.

BirdChirp · 20/04/2023 17:59

Thank you OP for reuniting the cat and his family. That's a long time to be missing.

Toddlerteaplease · 20/04/2023 18:21

So glad there is a happy ending. It’s a long time to be missing. Just shows how important micro chips are.

Kenwoodmixitup · 20/04/2023 19:06

Excellent thread. And all wrapped up in 12 hours. A modern story.

EachandEveryone · 20/04/2023 19:21

Aw will you le5 us kniw if you speak to them? What a lovely ending, hopefully they will start locking him in on a night.

My daughter climbed in the crate with him when she got home from school before he went and he was curling himself round her for cuddles.

I went with the lady from the cattery to drop him home - gave them a recap of what we saw of him over last few months. They were very surprised to get the call.

He has a brother at home so hopefully settles back in well with him.
