What was this breed of cat?

We went to view a house. They had two cats. They were the most beautiful cats in the world according to my son. He no longer wants the ragdolls we were planning on once we settle, even though we have been planning on them for several years. He would like these. He wanted us to buy the house to get them, but we explained that the people will want to take the cats! How cats are family! Cross with myself that I did not ask about the breed when we viewed because they were so lovely and we all admired them.

They are kind of like British short hairs, but huge. The biggest cats I have ever seen. One was ginger and white striped, one was kind of tortoisy (he was partly buried in blanket so we couldn't see that well). The ginger one was so friendly and invited strokes. The owner said they were not the brightest and to be careful with doors when going in and out in case they escaped as he feared they would be hurt or lost.

Any suggestions as to what breed they might be?

@QuintanaRoo my Birman was absolutely the same. I miss him every single day. Please give yours an extra hug from a Birman loving Kitty mummy x

Bless you, do you think you’ll ever get another?

Poor serious cat. She’s very beautiful.

Were they Abyssinian?

@QuintanaRoo thank you 😊 we would love to have another. We're 3 years on from losing our Birman boy: we look at so many other cats but really our Birman was beyond anything we ever anticipated. They are few and far between, but also - would the next one ever live up to the one we lost?! A hard decision - but we do know the right cat will fulfil our family 🥰

My first thought was a British Short Hair. I used to look after a pair of them. He was super sized and chunky with it but she was quite petite. They do have differently shaped faces than a garden variety moggie - not squished like a Persian but definitely flatter than my more angular moggies. Sweet cats, really nice natures, if a bit dramatic.

They could be British shorthairs. My lad is 6kg, and a bit of a beefcake. He’s neutered too. His dad was obviously not neutered and was even bigger. Massive chunky chops ❤️

I think we will go with British short hairs. They seem healthier than ragdolls. I know we will love whatever cat comes to join the family.

Our old boy's mother was a BSH beauty. She was cream. She escaped and had a multicoloured litter. BSH boys can be large. Ours was long, tall and plush. He was 7.5kg and whilst chunky wasn't overly fat the vet did not believe this.
