I am going to view a one year old cat in her foster home today, with me luck, I don’t know what to expect, she looks adorable in her photo and I’ve fallen for her with out even meeting her, I will be so disappointed if I don’t het to give her a home. Any advice please.
I need a companion to cuddle

Do yourself a favour and buy a Furminator brush, and get her used to it before that lovely fluff can get matted. My fluffy girl swore at the vet in a most unladylike fashion this week as we pinned her down to get rid of the worst of the felted bits (loves rolling in things, hates being groomed).

She’s settled in well thank you, a little wary exploring around. She is eating and using her litter box so all good.
It is understandably confusing for her so she is doing well. Her favourite place seems to be the attic landing. Hope In time she will love cuddles.

Congratulations OP. I'm a cat and dog fosterer too. I let them go because they gone on the be happy pets in loving homes - and it hopefully minimises the cute factor as I can tell people exactly what kind of dog/cat they are getting.

I've only kept one - which is a miracle really and it's because she's vicious and grumpy and quite frankly no one else would put up with her!

The best thing you can do it's just let her be for now.

We use the 3/3/3 rule with our fosters - 3 days to decompress from the shock of moving, 3 weeks to settle and 3 months to be totally comfortable in their new home.

Patience and kindness.

Awww that's great news. Some cats are box obsessed. You could try a few traps lying around. Our two fight over one from amazon filled with scrunchy paper. Glad she's settling ok. Trust will take time.

Did you rename her?

vickibee · 24/03/2023 05:59

Vera has grown on me. So we are sticking with it
She seems to love DS and spends most of her time around him

I had a pile of cardboard boxes waiting to be recycled.

A week later they’re still here because they’re apparently the best cat toy ever. He loves hunting for treats in them or just hiding in there somewhere.

Congratulations! Grin I love her name!

vickibee · 28/03/2023 16:58

She is a perfect puss and settled in so well. Just one problem she is scratching my carpets despite having posts available. How do I stop her from doing this .
thnx

Some cats prefer horizontal scratching so just get a flat cardboard scratcher and/or a coir doormat.

vickibee · 28/03/2023 18:14

@SinisterKnitter thanks will try that

Congratulations on adopting Vera! Glad to hear she’s settling in well. You never know how quickly or slowly they will (all mine have been rescues). I wondered if you’d keep that name. Daisy is the only one I’ve had whose shelter name I kept, and all the others learned the names I chose soon enough. Love her heart-shaped mark - my Phoebe has one on top of her head!

The circular ones with a ball toy in the plastic frame are good value, I’ve found. Daisy loves working the claws on hers.

My current boy has a couple of cardboard scratchers from Wilko,

EmpressaurusOfCats · 30/03/2023 10:03

And likes sitting on them as well as scratching on them. https://www.wilko.com/en-uk/wilko-cardboard-cat-scratcher/p/0524380

On this pic she has a heart ❤️ on her leg, I love her already I DK how the foster carer can let them go it would be so difficult.

She is adorable 🥰

vickibee · 30/03/2023 20:38

She is currently asleep on my bed so made herself at home.

Oh that's great news. I love Sheffield Cats Shelter, I worked there years ago, as a volunteer. They really do work their socks off for the cats. I've been down to one of their charity shops today to donate. They need every penny.
Enjoy your new fur baby, she's gorgeous

vickibee · 11/04/2023 17:08

I need help, she is trashing the carpets despite having scratch posts . Massively destructive. Other than this bad habit she is adorable.

OP posts:
ilovesooty · 11/04/2023 17:17

Have you tried spraying catnip on the scratch posts?

mycarsnores · 11/04/2023 17:28

The scratching could be a sign of stress. My rescue cat used to scratch furniture and wallpaper when we first rehomed her until I tried Feliway plug-ins. I find these calm her down.

verdantverdure · 11/04/2023 17:41

Can you get her a carpet sample square that she's allowed to dig her claws into?

She's just being a cat. That's a standard cat need. Some cats prefer horizontal carpet to vertical scratching posts. Carpet tiles are good too.

vickibee · 11/04/2023 17:49

It’s not only the carpets it’s the sofa and curtains, she doesn’t seem stressed
we play with her a lot to try and get rid of her energy. I have put old bath mats in the carpet areas she is damaging. I understand she’s just being a cat but I really need her to scratch the things she’s supposed to.
