KatKin - is it really worth it or overrated?

Now that I have finally de-iced and cleaned my freezer, I can finally make space for KatKin but is it really worth it?

I have two cats, I buy 3 different foods, two wet (perfect fit + blink) and one dry (whiskas) - the reason is - 1st cat loves perfect fit and I get from amazon, he always been on whiskas too but refuses other dry brands - 2nd cat came here on blink so I carried on - they eat each other’s food so they are now both on these 3 brands.
They are not fussy - sometimes I buy samples of different ones and they eat no problems. Never had to deal with upset tummies.

I haven’t got a clue how much I spend on food so I can’t do a price comparison, but will probably be more or less the same.

So, if I give them KatKin would I still need to give them dry food?

Is KatKin overrated?

And how many times a day do you feed your cat? (KatKin or otherwise)

My new kitten won't eat it at all. Total waste of money. And he turned his nose up at the chicken treats that came with it.

I followed their recommendations about introducing it but he just hates it.

Clarich007 · 11/02/2023 16:25

My cat had it and it gave him the runs. Soon as I stopped feeding it he was fine. Got a freezer full of the stuff!

EksWooWooman · 11/02/2023 16:41

Oh no, what a shame😿

Don’t they do a trial? You have to commit to a certain number of days / months?

What are your cats on and the frequency please?

I also have a stack of it! I have no idea why I ordered it as Harry wouldn't eat it last time but I was getting desperate as he'd stopped eating his wet food. As soon as I ordered it he began devouring his original food and now I'm too scared to upset him!

Bionesque · 12/02/2023 21:00

Yep, another one with a load in the freezer after my cat absolutely refused to eat it.

EksWooWooman · 13/02/2023 11:37

It not looking good, I will not buy and stick to what is working

Mine refused too. I fed it to the visiting stray!

Bamaluz · 13/02/2023 12:47

My very fussy elderly cat is eating it really well. I am mixing it with senior poches though, but he's eating more than he usually does, which is great as he had been losing weight and needs to gain a bit.

whirlyhead · 17/02/2023 18:20

My cats sometimes ate it, but I disliked the consistency and smell of it. I really hated even getting it out of the bag. So I gave up.

brokenarmabroad · 17/02/2023 19:45

DCat loves it and is thriving on it, and we certainly benefit from it too because he is an indoor cat and his poo literally is almost odourless. It's all he's ever known though because we switched him to it as a 13 week old kitten.

NoInvitesEver · 17/02/2023 19:58

My 3 cats absolutely love it. First few days you stick with the chicken as its best for adjusting to new diet and they provide sprinkles to make it extra inviting. After that they were hooked.
My overweight cat has slimmed a little and all 3 cats' fur is in best condition ever. And the poo doesn't smell. We're over 8 months in now.
Two of mine can't eat the duck one - too rich and makes them sick so we adjusted what is sent and excluded duck.
One of my cats has never been bothered about food but she loves Katkin.

Guiltypleasures001 · 17/02/2023 22:34

Ours won't entertain it, ate half the first bowl then won't look at it

Mistymornin · 19/02/2023 08:28

My cat is just finishing the trial pack, I have a delivery coming next week, £63 - haven’t told DH! He has allergies - watery eyes and dry/scabby skin, so I thought I would give KK a go.

brokenarmabroad · 19/02/2023 08:38

@Mistymornin , you might well have figured this out already but the most cost effective way of ordering it is to select the largest pouch size (400 calories I think?) and then split a pouch over the appropriate number of meals. So DCat is recommended 200 cals a day so in theory he has one pouch every two days, although that doesn't always work when he knows it is his favourite flavour and somehow manages to convince us to give him the whole pouch by teatime on day 1!

Obviously this is only relevant if your cat needs less than the biggest pouch size.

It is a meal subscription service for cats, I liked the idea of it and wanted to try it to provide better quality of food for our elderly cat as it indicates it is much better for them and their coat will be healthier and poo less smelly.

We used the trial and selected some of each flavour. You're advised to only give the chicken (Cluck) kind initially and use the sprinkles on top (dried chicken flakes). Our cat wasn't keen and was leaving a lot of food each day - I was worried she wasn't eating enough. She seemed to enjoy the beef (Moo) kind a bit more, but still wasn't finishing her meals.

I decided to cancel the subscription after the trial as I wanted to ensure she was eating more and was worried about weight loss. It was difficult to cancel on their website and I ended up calling them - I expected they would be pushy and make it difficult to cancel, but they accepted my decision and cancelled it straight away.

I did like the concept and they were a good company to deal with - if my cat hadn't struggled so much with the change, I might have continued; although it would have worked out a lot more expensive, if I had noticed the benefits and she was enjoying it, I would have been happy to pay the extra money.

Mistymornin · 19/02/2023 09:16

@brokenarmabroad Thank you for your advice. From the trial pack, I have been giving Fluffy one pack a day.

Tobycat · 03/03/2024 10:06

Be careful with KatKin. I signed up for a discount trial offer and have just found an unauthorised deduction of £55.50 made against my debit card overnight. Perhaps they have made a mistake, and might return my money, but wouldn't like anyone else to find they are victims of a light-fingered company.

I will repost if they return my money and apologise.

Idonothaveausername · 24/04/2024 12:05

I have fallen for the Katkin scam!
Signed up for a 2 week trial Thought no more about it when I decided it was not for me Found out when the courier emailed me re a further delivery that I had inadvertently signed up for monthly deliveries This was not made clear when signing up or in subsequent emails I received
At the same time discovered £78 had been taken from my account!
Emailed the company immediately followed by a phone call the following day to be informed they could not refund my money or accept a return of goods They had given me no time to be able to cancel my order as the first I heard about it was after it had been dispatched!!
Please be warned this is dishonest practice

AltitudeCheck · 26/04/2024 11:15

We've been using it for 18months or so. Very happy with the food and the cats (one with inflammatory bowel condition) are thriving on it. Poo is almost odourless and coats in great condition. It is soooo expensive though! We had some 50% off codes from referrals but now they now longer offer that we are looking to switch to something more affordable (any suggestions for a single (non-chicken) protein source, complete wet food would be much appreciated!)

ElizabethVonArnim · 26/04/2024 13:49

My cat loved it but DP couldn't bear the smell or the fact that we had open sachets of cat food in the fridge (the cat wouldn't eat a whole one in one go).

GodLoveEm · 13/06/2024 14:58

Nearly bought this! So glad I didn't. Thanks so much for all the insights. x x x

GodLoveEm · 13/06/2024 15:00

Did they refund you?

It's one of the only things my fussy bastards will eat, and we've tried all the expensive brands and they hate them all apart from Katkin

user1471462701 · 20/06/2024 23:34

My little ginger menace loves untamed - but only the fish ones. They comes in tins
