Help re breading a Persian kitten

Hi all,

I have a beautiful 18 month old Persian girl who is in season and seems desperate to mate. I am considering finding a male (she's an indoor cat) and possibly breeding kittens.

Now, I know I'd need to consider things such as having no plans (holidays etc) roughly 9 weeks after she falls pregnant, but I have some questions re the following:

  • I am a teacher. Is it possible to still go to work and stuff when the kittens are born in those first 8 weeks?
  • I live in a 2 bed flat, how would it work? Would the mum and the kittens get shut in a room together to contain them, or a crate etc? I have two female cats so would I need to keep my neutered one away from the mummy and her babies?

Basically I'm a bit clueless (and won't do anything until I'm knowledgable!) but Google isn't actually very helpful..

I’d get this deleted quickly if I were you. Mn abhors cat/dog breeders and you’re about to get torn apart 🙄😂

OhhhhhhhhBiscuits · 05/02/2023 19:38

Please don't. Please just take your cat to the vets after her season and get her neutered ASAP. It will significantly cut down the chances of her getting mammary tumours and ovarian/cervical cancers. It is better done before gheir first heat cycle to get maximum benefit but now is better than not at all.

highdrylowerwetter · 05/02/2023 19:39

Please get her neutered and do not breed her.

OhhhhhhhhBiscuits · 05/02/2023 19:40

Also if you did go ahead with your ridiculous unscrupulous breeding can you afford a c-section if it's required? You would need to get health checks done on the stud cat this can also cost money. It is not a cheap business breeding properly, you need to keep the kittens at home with you for 12 weeks before they could go to new homes and ideally they will have been fully vaccinated and neutered before they go to new homes.

considerablycuntierthanyou · 05/02/2023 19:42

This is a terrible idea.

RandomMess · 05/02/2023 19:43

You would also need to be sure your cat was "defect" free not carrying any of the "weaknesses" of the breed.

Have a few £k spare in case emergency section needed. Be aware you can lose all the kittens and possibly the Mum. You need additional insurance to cover a breeding Queen.

Once they are mobile you need to feed, clean up and interact with them several times a day. It's a big time commitment.

No, no, no! My Persians were rescued from a kitten farm. It left them with life long issues. And out of 6 that were rescued, only two are still alive. One of mine died at 8 from HCM. Get her neutered.

Has she been screened for kidney and heart disease and a few other inherited diseases?

MissMaple82 · 05/02/2023 19:46

Good lord you're a teacher!

Yarnosaura · 05/02/2023 19:48

You might want to ask MNHQ to fix your title.

And then get your cat fixed.

If you care about cat welfare that is.

PedantScorner · 05/02/2023 19:48

Keep the cat as far away from the bread as possible.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 05/02/2023 19:49

What are your reasons for wanting to breed from her?

Breeding her cat is a poor idea but steady on!

IWantToBeACat · 05/02/2023 19:55

I'm a fosterer for a cat charity, I will literally get on my knees in front of you and beg you to reconsider. Unless you are loaded and can afford to keep all the kittens your poor cat may have, please don't do it. You clearly have no idea how this may go, so please, I beg you, get your cat neutered and don't go down this route.

It’s well known that brachycephalic animals experience chronic suffering - why would you want to breed deformed kittens that cannot breathe properly and will suffer @crispsandcrumpets ?

I hope this is a windup. It’s a bit of a MN bingo card - clueless owner, brachycephalic breed, teacher so I expect someone is bored on a Sunday evening

Agree this is very likely a wind up by someone who wants to trigger Mumsnetters. Seems to have worked on a few!

However just in case there really is a teacher who can’t use google:

Outtasteamandluck · 05/02/2023 20:11

Breading or breeding ? 😃

Eastereggsboxedupready · 05/02/2023 20:11

Bread? Are you making dkitten butties op?

ginslinger · 05/02/2023 20:13

I hope you don't teach spelling

Floralnomad · 05/02/2023 20:15

I hope this is a wind up , on the off chance it isn’t get your poor cat spayed , if you don’t of course it will yowl to get out because that’s what cats are programmed to do if they aren’t neutered.

AdventFridgeOfShame · 05/02/2023 20:17

Beaten egg, flour, beaten egg again and then the breadcrumbs. Some people go for another round of egg and breadcrumbs.

Spudlet · 05/02/2023 20:19

Yes, you definitely need a good layer of eggwash before applying the breadcrumbs. Otherwise they just fall off.

bellac11 · 05/02/2023 20:21

Clearly a wind up

A teacher that cant spell and a controversial issue.

And remember to do one dry hand and one wet hand. Dont mix them up!!!
