How long is your cat? (Especially if you have a smaller model).

Head to end of body, not including tail?

I wish I had measured her on arrival as she was very small. I am now thinking I have a younger cat than I wanted and have been mis-sold as she looks considerably bigger and only a few months in.

She has only been fed the best, is spoiled to bits because that's what cats are for, had been in the rescue with kittens, and was underweight and flea ridden so I expected improvement but not so much extra cat for the age stated. I was enjoying having a tiny cat and feel a bit hard done by.

She is still beautiful and loving and very dear to me, but bigger.

What? You think your cat is too big? Or too small?

IconicKitty · 28/01/2023 04:22

This post doesn't make sense

mowly77 · 28/01/2023 04:30

I am here for this. We need answers! Yes - is the cat too big? that is what I extrapolate. Why is the cat too big? Why is a small cat desirable? Do you live in a tiny house? Did you buy the cat several outfits that will no longer fit?

What about height? If the cat is simply getting longer are you sure it’s a cat, not, say, an otter?

I’m not sure attempting to measure my cats would help you. My girl cat is the size of a small to average cat if that helps.

Sparklfairy · 28/01/2023 04:33

We got ours in similar circumstances (rescue, flea ridden, malnourished). The vet said "she'll never be a big cat..."

Honestly I should have known from the oversized bat ears and very long tail on this tiny kitten Grin I'll try and measure her later (I darent wake her as she'll want feeding) but she is now 10 years old and looooong.

Newlychosencatservant · 28/01/2023 04:57

I rescued a cat last year. We were advised she was 4. She was a wee scruffy thing then (tiny and around 2kg) and I remember raising an eyebrow when her paperwork said she was long haired.
We've had her for 10 months now and she has doubled in size and her coat is thick and fluffy. She is just well loved and well nourished now.

Were you told she was an adult cat?

Hillrunning · 28/01/2023 05:48

Cats are to be loved. Not judged because good care is causing them to be healthy. This might be the most ridiculous thread I've every read.

Mercurial123 · 28/01/2023 05:52

This is weird. Just be happy your cat is healthy.

meetmeatmidnights · 28/01/2023 05:52

I got two at the same time, one kitten and one adult - both have grown hugely since we got them. Kitten obviously, but even the cat (2!) has grown massively now they're in proper food and being loved.

Don't be sad that your cat is longer and bigger now, not many cats stay tiny unless they're super small breeds or under nourished! You've got a lovely healthy cat now 🥰

torquewench · 28/01/2023 06:08

I have 3 and they're all different sizes. The oldest one is the smallest. Hope that helps.

Selttan · 28/01/2023 06:16

Why do you want a small cat? Did you plan to carry it around in a handbag???

I adopted my girl when she was 11 months and the rescue told me she'd finished growing and wouldn't be bigger than my other girl (who is her mum).
Well, she kept growing and is now bigger and taller than her mum and when stretched out on the bed takes up all the space.

I couldn't care less.

AccidentallyRunToWindsor · 28/01/2023 06:19

BRB, just off to stretch my cats out and set to them with a tape measure. Will report back on length if I still have all my limbs and both eyes afterwards.

SkankingWombat · 28/01/2023 07:20

Even small cats are very long when they choose to stretch out IME. They are exceptionally stretchy.
Our cat (a moggy) is 5.2kg and stretches from my knee to nearly up to my armpit nose-to-tail-tip when she lies alongside me like a small human in bed . I'm 5'7", so not short either.

However, your post is really weird. I'm also wondering why a small cat is so important? Surely bigger is better? You get more to snuffle that way!

Toddlerteaplease · 28/01/2023 10:21

@Newlychosencatservant wow what a transformation a bit of love can bring about. I was horrified when I saw pics of my two, when they'd just been rescued.

Toddlerteaplease · 28/01/2023 10:22

Don't think I could keep
My pair still enough to measure them!

crackofdoom · 28/01/2023 10:24

Mine vary from about 12 inches to about 3.5 ft, depending on light intensity and atmospheric humidity.

Ramekin · 28/01/2023 10:47

I won’t try measuring, they wouldn’t co-operate.

But stretched out, smaller cat (around 5kg) seems to take up the entire sofa or bed.

If there is a tin of tuna being opened his nose and paws can reach from the floor to not quite the height of the kitchen worktop.

I don't think either too big or too small. She was very small when I first saw her, and an adult. I assumed she was fully grown at 5 years old. It took a while to get used to her being so small, but she was cute and I was happy with her being small.

At first I thought she looked bigger because I was getting used to her but it looks as if she has grown.

She isn't too big, although she is too heavy and a bit porky. I didn't expect an adult cat, which I was told she was, to grow so much in a few months. Had I been told she was 5 years younger then I wouldn't be surprised by her growing so much and so fast.

Maybe she is an otter, she's not taller, but looks longer and plumper.

Don’t ask me, we have the worlds’s smallest Maine Coon

It looks as if that is what happened, in fact I am assuming so. But I chose her from the older group at the rescue and assumed she was just a small cat. I previously had a very small cat about the same age and she stayed very small. She had been with the rescue for quite a while and in a foster home, I would have thought she would have grown before I got her, so assume she may be younger than I was told.

I have also had 'normal' sized and large models of cat, and have watched strays transform with love, good food and brushing. This one has certainly outshone them all, in terms of transformation.

I loved her for her tiny size and now I have to get used to having a full size cat. She is still adorable, but 'not as described'.

I have rescue sisters both are large and I have weights not lengths to hand, one is 5.5kg the other 8.4kg. When we picked them they were 6 months old and tiny for their age!

PlaitBilledDuckyPuss · 28/01/2023 18:30

One weeny-teeny girl, and one great big long fat boy!

Please feel free to hide the thread. I'm not 'judging' my cat, however you seem to be the one doing the judging, or misunderstanding my post.

Obviously I should have put 'lighthearted' in the tile to make it nice and clear.
