Aged 15 and two months. He was on top form.last night and came up for his usual moither and stroke at about 6.15am then padded off downstairs.

He was asleep on the mat by his cat flap when we came downstairs. He is at the vet but no news on the possible cause. The vet didn't think he'd been dead for very long - not much more than an hour. DH and DD have cried and DS cried on the phone. I can't cry.

The house seems very empty. I have washed up his bowls and will take his food to the pet food bank later.

He won't be on the arm of my chair tonight, or on the bed later. The cat flap hasn't banged shut all day.

RIP Darling Boy

So very sorry- the old cliche but it's so relevant..your puss didn't suffer..just went to sleep...my old boy has nose cancer which is now accelerating - it's sad to watch.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 07/01/2023 16:12

Aww I'm so sorry for your loss. He sounds like a very cool and resilient cat who had quite a life or nine. Thinking of you x

Philomenacunk1 · 07/01/2023 16:16

I’m so sorry for your loss. He sounds like a wonderful cat x

PushkaMcgee · 07/01/2023 16:19

What a beautiful boy, I'm very sad for your loss, losing a pet is heartbreaking, even more so when it is so unexpected 💔

uncomfortablydumb53 · 07/01/2023 16:19

Oh I'm so very sorry you had to find him and I'm sure you're in shock which is why you haven't cried
It's so sad but he has left his Paw prints on your heart and one day you will smile at your memories

NewNameForXmas · 07/01/2023 18:55

He sounds wonderful, had a great life and a good way to go. Hugs xx

RosesAndHellebores · 07/01/2023 19:41

@uncomfortablydumb53 "pawprints on our hearts" I like that. Thank you.

We Luffed him. He was an incredibly adored and spoilt cat. He was a lucky lad.

I had a weeks super, premium food delivered last night, on top of the week in hand and bag of Hills Science. I popped it all in the pet's food bank this afternoon.

We have new mats in the garden room and porch.

There will never be grey pawprints on our counterpane again. DH will have one less thing to complain about.

I just want to feel his plush Velvety, purry being under my hand as I ask him to refrain from scratching and biting. He was the most socialised yet scratchy bastard going.

So very sorry for the loss of your handsome boy. He lived a long and fantastic life with you OP, he'll always be with you, in your heart ❤️ there's nothing I can say that would ease your pain but I can honestly sympathise like others on here, what it's like to lose them.

ApexPredator · 07/01/2023 19:50

Oh what a super boy @RosesAndHellebores Flowers

It sounds like he had a good life, always knowing he was loved, and died quickly and without suffering; we can’t wish for anything more for them than that. It will be so hard being without him, I’m sure but what great memories you will have - he will have left his mark on your house and your family - and of course your heart ❤️

Wolfiefan · 07/01/2023 19:51

He was such a handsome boy and sounded such a character. He was lucky to have been so well loved for so many years. So very very sorry for your loss.

RosesAndHellebores · 07/01/2023 20:12

We are all rather subdued. DS and DIL are over for Saturdsy night dinner. Which we have just had. I had snuck off to the sitting room. They are all reminiscing.

The vet didn't ring back today. Hopefully Monday.

We have decided we want him individually cremated and for his ashes to be returned. We will Bury them under a new tree.

That's a lovely resting place for your boy
It's exactly what I would do
Once again, I'm sorry for your loss
He was part of your family

Antst · 07/01/2023 20:34

@RosesAndHellebores, I'm glad they're around even if you feel like sneaking off and being alone. It's a lovely idea to bury him under the tree. He was part of the family and deserves a good send-off. It might help you too to have that ceremony to remember him with the rest of the family.

BlueKaftan · 07/01/2023 20:38

I’m so sorry for your loss. He was such a handsome boy, and so generous to you and your family. I hope you can find solace in knowing that he was well loved and cared for.

MadameRanevskaya · 08/01/2023 16:52

I just wanted to say I’m very sorry too. We had to have our very much loved 17 yr old cat put to sleep 5 weeks ago and I know it is devastating . One of the nicest messages I had from a friend said that he had had a lovely life in a lovely home and although it made me cry it was also comforting.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 08/01/2023 16:58

What a gorgeous boy. I'm so sorry for your loss, it's heartbreaking. My Leo and hundreds of others will have met him at the rainbow bridge and be showing him round his new forever home until you get there. FlowersFlowers

RosesAndHellebores · 08/01/2023 17:36

Thank you all again for further wishes. All a bit flat. I have done very little today. Just about to put on a roast.

I'm hoping the vet might have some idea about what happened tomorrow. We think it was a stroke or heart attack. There was absolutely no indication anything was wrong. He had a full check up and bloods taken at the end of November. Yesterday I took his food to the food bank and next week I'll take an unopened bottle of metacam and three months of advocate to the vet. DD is giving his scratching posts and bed to a chum. I need to wash the blanket in the cat carrier. It was dd's old guide blanket with her badges on so that's one thing of his that can't be given away. How he hated the carrier and the car.

The only consolation is that he had a charmed life with a beautiful garden to play in and the heating left on for him when it was very cold. His last few years were very sociable as there was usually one of us working at home from the start of Covid. DH wants a proper photo made up and framed. He always claimed to find the cat a tiresome beast but he cried.

Very sad for you and your family, but it sounds like he had a perfect ending, after a lovely life.

ladymalfoy45 · 08/01/2023 17:42

Look at his face! 'Mum,I know I am handsome and beautiful, but you are disturbing me with your photograph taking. Pray, leave me to my snooze'.
Sorry for your loss. A 'catless' house is an empty ,quiet place. Xxxxxx

Battlecat98 · 08/01/2023 17:48

Just wanted to add my condolences. RIP beautiful boy.
It seems like your boy had a wonderful life and knew he was loved. My dcat died in similar circumstances but she didn't make it into the house, she was curled up outside the back door 😢.
I am sure there will be many more tears to come.
Look after yourself.

RosesAndHellebores · 08/01/2023 18:23

@ladymalfoy45 your comment made me chuckle. More of the luxury, most spoilt and self-important cat.

You can see from the first photo, the damage he wrought to an antique chair.

Those paws are magnificent!

So sorry for your loss. It sounds as though he managed to cram a lot of living into those 15 years.

lipstickwoman · 08/01/2023 19:34

OP I've read through the thread a couple of times but can't see his name.. sorry if I missed it. Are you able to share?
