I can’t decide on one or both!

We have a 7 year old boy and have picked out a kitten to have a home trial so we can extend the family. Thought about it for a while, I prefer adult cats myself but with our boy we thought best to go as young as possible rather than him clashing in territory over an adult cat.

however

I have just been up to the rescue to spend some time with her, and I’ve fallen in love with her sister too. She’s slightly withdrawn and looks a little under developed compared to the kitten we have selected who is bright confident and bouncy. The reason reason we didn’t go for the shy sister is that she seemed to be a bit more of a risk with her health, she just seemed a bit off and over anxious, looked a little dopier than her sisters and couldn’t quite follow my finger - no where near as alert as the others were.

I cannot stop thinking about her. My heart is breaking over it. Why is it so difficult?

Ive been thinking bout whether it would be ideal to bring them both home especially with having my older boy at the risk of kitten annoying him too much. What are peoples thoughts over the situation? Has anyone ever brought two kittens home at once and what is the situation with insurance and things like with multiple cats?

I had sisters. The shy one was absolutely the boss. Go for both. She will come out of her shell.

Toddlerteaplease · 15/11/2022 14:11

The kittens can play with each other abs leave your older boy alone.

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 15/11/2022 14:13

Absolutely agree with both @Toddlerteaplease posts. Go for her and get the two @Igotthegoose

we have three sisters and a brother and sister. The quietest, shy girls now rule the roost and are so bossy over their siblings.

IntrovertedPenguin · 15/11/2022 14:14

Get both. This shouldn't even be a question. Grin

The more the merrier when it comes to cats! I have three and the joy they give my family nothing compares.

SpentDandelion · 15/11/2022 14:15

It's much better to have two kittens, they will be lovely company for one another. When you see them play, snuggle and groom one another you will be glad you have two. Also better for your other cat, they won't be annoying him as much.

IntrovertedPenguin · 15/11/2022 14:16

Also my youngest cat has a brother, her brother went to MIL. She was small, tiny, shy, she's still very small but she's now the boss out of my 3. She sits on our shoulder like a parrot. Don't be put off.

PortiasBiscuit · 15/11/2022 14:18

If you can genuinely afford it, have both obviously.
We have five cats now and I really have no idea how that happened, so

Pixiedust1234 · 15/11/2022 14:20

Get both. The kittens will tire each other out and leave your boy alone (mostly). Besides...how could you leave one behind!!!! Be more like a marine! Grin

Also we need pictures. I count at least three photos are needed

Igotthegoose · 15/11/2022 14:22

Thank you for the encouragement. It seems crazy getting two when he only wanted one but I can’t bear the thought of leaving her there. There are three of them, the other is taken and is going home this weekend. If we just bring Charlotte home, Beatrice will be all by herself and I can’t bear the thought of it.

What are your thoughts on her dopeyness? She just seems off compared to the other two, or so they all develop individually? I was making a little noise and she is the one one of the three who seemed to look in the complete opposite direction 🤦🏻‍♀️

This is Beatrice, the dopey one.

I can’t decide on one or both!

My friend (aka FWK, friend with kittens) did this when he lost his male cat to heart failure - got a pair of boy kittens to keep the remaining older female cat company.

She doesn't actually like either of them much, so he's happy that they keep each other company. They would do typical mad kitten things, and Belle really wasn't interested in crazily dashing round playing chase or having wrestling matches.

StarDolphins · 15/11/2022 14:51

Ahh she’s lovely! I would take both!

I went years ago to rescue to get 1 cat & took both sibling Persians - the dopey shy one lasted 12 years(eventually becoming confident & amazing) but unfortunately the confident 1 died at 2 years old☹️

after the settling in period where it’s chaos🤣 all settles down & it’s much easier!

good luck with whatever you decide.

When we went to choose a kitten a few years ago, my daughter already knew which one she wanted to get. However, I fell in love with the runt of the litter, who was much smaller and slightly 'vacant' compared to his siblings. Nobody wanted him, and I couldn't bear the thought of him being left behind on his own. When I went back to pick Loki up, I brought Gizmo home as well. He caught up quickly developmentally and, whilst Gizmo is smaller than his brother, he's definitely the boss! I'd say take both of them - as others have said, they'll play together and have a ball. Beatrice looks beautiful btw.

Igmum · 15/11/2022 14:57

Both both both. Beatrice is gorgeous. How could you not love that little face ❤️

Pixiedust1234 · 15/11/2022 15:05

Thats not dopiness. Thats planned domination sneakily hidden from the unwary.

My sweet girl was minute, a real runt. She weighed 2.5kg maximum and looked like she was 18 months old and when she came from the rescue was a right people pleaser. Once she had got settled, my goodness she was a firecracker. She punched squirrels in faces and smacked fox bottoms are they hurtled through hedges and her bunny rabbit back leg kicks winded grown men. Even the vets had her listed as fiesty 😂

In other words, do not be fooled by physical appearances or demeanour. Once she's settled, fed well and loved she will blossom ❤

Igotthegoose · 15/11/2022 15:09

@Pixiedust1234 punched squirrels in the face 🤣🤣🤣

I think my other half is also considering it. I will post another picture of the three which was taken about a month ago, when I said dopeyness, you will all 100% be able to tell which one Beatrice is.::

Charlotte is the original baby we picked out on the right hand side

I can’t decide on one or both!

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 15/11/2022 15:14

Both. That’s not dopeyness. That’s either being a little shy or overwhelmed with the adoption center. She will be totally different once secure and settled, with her own space, (yours space) food, warmth, toys and your love.

Toddlerteaplease · 15/11/2022 15:20

Thats not dopiness. Thats planned domination sneakily hidden from the unwary.

That a exactly what I was thinking! She's plotting world domination 🤣

Toddlerteaplease · 15/11/2022 15:21

Honestly she's not standing as being dopey..

This. We got a kitten to keep our older cat company. Disastrous mistake. All he wanted to do was play with her and she absolutely was not interested. Another kitten would have been a better idea for a playmate. That said, we were living somewhere where we had to keep them indoors.

If they’ll have access to outside, one kitten might be fine. If they’re indoor only, and you can deal with three cats (which feels like a lot of cats), then two is a great idea to stop the kittens bothering your older one!

This is Beatrice, the dopey one.

That's not a dopey look. That's a look full of attitude 😍

Igotthegoose · 15/11/2022 17:36

Haha maybe visiting her properly today and spending time with her made her seem a bit more than comes across on pictures.

@WinkOnlyCellophane We have access to outdoors yes, we are pretty isolated in a little hamlet with lots of field space at the back. It is indeed, a cat heaven as the home visitor said. It won’t be until next spring until they go out though but at least it will keep the house lively over the weary winter months.

Well my partner has just rang and said that he feels we need to take both.

So it looks like we will have two new baby girls on Friday coming home with us for a home trial 🥺

Your partner is a keeper! It would have broken your heart to leave her behind.
