I know we've had a million threads like this but here's another one given that new brands are coming on the market all the time.

What's the best you've used and how economical for multiple cats?

3 indoor cats. Used to use catsan but costing me a fortune

Now I use wooden pellets which I sieve with a garden sieve every day over bin bag (take poo out as soon as done)
I paid £6.95 for a 30l sack. They sell out very fast as you can imagine. I stocked up on 4 sacks last visit and will keep stocking when i catch them in again. I store outside in a plastic outdoor storage thing in the cats catio.
Best decision I made. So easy and cheap and doesnt smell but I do sieve the sawdust daily (which is really wee soaked sawdust)
Cats dont mind it all - started with a handful in catsan and did a gradual change

@TheGriffle clumping litter needs to in a deep tray which is deep filled. Several inches deep. That way the wee balls into a big clump and is easily scooped out. That first full of your litter tray seems very expensive - but you aren’t having to throw the whole tray away, just top it up regularly and will very rarely need to totally empty the tray - like once every six months will do, just don’t too up the litter that week and use it until
nearly empty before washing it out.
if it’s not deep enough litter wise, you get the scrapping-off-the-cement-from-the-bottom effect. Which is hard work.

Also, clay makes the hardest most cementy mounds at the bottom.
The plant fibre litter will also make some mounds at the bottom of the tray when it’s not deep enough, but it’s easy to remove.
It only needs a complete change once it’s turned into sawdust, and that takes months.

I had a top entry super deep tray one of the blighters still liked to pee on the bottom it was about 7" deep and had to play hunt the clump ball.

LipbalmOrKnickers · 07/11/2022 09:19

In this house 'hunt the clump' is known as the world's worst lucky dip.

Currently using catsan but will swap to everclean after reading this! Baffled as to how people are getting so much use out of their litter - I'm currently doing a full change of 2 litter trays every 3-4 days, use about 10L at a time so getting expensive. I have 3 cats and they are so fussy they wee elsewhere if I leave it much longer. Should improve once they start going outside again (currently indoor for a few weeks during house move which could also be contributing to the wee situation)

MrsOvertonsWindow · 10/11/2022 18:51

Struggling with this. The cat uses the litter tray at night and then goes and washes his paws in the dog's water bowl Shock Litter and water everywhere in the mornings .... Sad

TonTonMacoute · 10/11/2022 22:32

Haven't used litter for16 years, but we've just got two kittens and I've been super impressed by the Greenwood's wooden pellets.

Moominfanjo · 10/11/2022 22:44

The tesco antibacterial one is good for odour control, i think it works better than catsan.

WandaWomblesaurus · 11/11/2022 09:34

I had one of those self cleaning trays for a while until one of the cats had the catsquits and it basically whisked it all up in the metal prong things.
Never again!

World's best and scoop daily.
I have three cats and swear by it.
The wood pellets are a bit better for smell but can't be scooped the same way and you end up with a tray of mulch after a few days.
I only need to do a full clean once a month with World's best.

RandomMess · 11/11/2022 09:40

@JohnsShirt the sieve trays are a game changer with the wood pellets!

LT2 · 11/11/2022 09:48

We use wood pellets in one (as it's a sieve tray) but that tray smells the worst so I don't agree with those recommendations!

I agree with Greenwoods being good for smell but it trails very badly. My personal favourite after trying a few is Golden Grey Odour (I buy it from Zooplus). It doesn't get kicked out and doesn't have a bad smell.

RandomMess · 11/11/2022 09:52

@LT2 that's so odd, the only time I smell the pee is when emptying out a very full wet under tray.

I've only used PeeWee pellets so far they are lasting for AGES.

LT2 · 11/11/2022 09:55

@RandomMess I have found that wood pellets differ. The pets at home one stinks as soon as they've done one pee! Interested to know which you use? Some do seem smellier than others! Perhaps I just need to find the right one.

LT2 · 11/11/2022 09:56

@RandomMess ah, PeeWee - I shall try those next!

Trisolaris · 11/11/2022 10:04

Natusan! My cat used to stink out the whole house before I switched

Selttan · 11/11/2022 10:27

Another vote for ever clean. I use the unscented one and lasts about 5 weeks. I use 3 trays for two cats.

longtompot · 11/11/2022 11:09

Currently using this stuff and I really rate it www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B083VBYDM1/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1

Before that I used this stuff www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B009QJYBVK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Only down side, apart from the cost (which I feel is worth it compared to other non clumping litter) is my dog is rather partial to snacking on the clean litter! They smell mildly like popcorn

Tracking is much less of a problem
with a good sized decent mat.
The one I have does work well, but one of the cats shreds the little square bits off it and I get those round the house instead 🙄

LT2 · 11/11/2022 13:53

@GiantKitten I do have tracking mats. Maybe my cats are just particularly bad at kicking it out😁 they are longhaired Ragdolls so it does stick to them more than it would other cats I suppose!

RandomMess · 11/11/2022 15:29

One of my cats attacked the tracking mat 🤣

Bastard bloody tracking 20
foot cat 🙄
