Bright ideas for a wound?

Warning, contains wound pics!

Ollie caught his back on something, it was healing nicely. Then he pulled the scab off. He's just done exactly the same thing again and I think it's when he is nosying about outside and catching it on a hedge maybe

I can't keep him in - this cat has an inability to be quiet and will keep up the song of his people for hours on end to the point you need subtitles on the TV...

If he was human I would have put a padded dressing on it but.. cat Grin
It's clean, and it heals but he just keeps ripping the damn scab off
Pic this morning and now

This happened to DPs childhood cat. Only thing which sorted it was a stay in a really good chattery for a couple of weeks where a lovely old lady diligently cared for and entertained the prince.

The little bugger isn't fully vaccinated so he can't go. Plus he's heavily bonded Sad
I might Google and see if they sell animal spray plaster?

You definitely get spray on barrier for horses, don't see why it wouldn't work for cats as well. I can't remember the brand name I use but should come up on Google.

Could you get some of those self sticking tape for animals and put antiseptic and a pad under that? Hard to tell where on the body the wound is?

Disclaimer- In know cats lick to keep clean, but have no idea whether this type of dressing would help? Otherwise, cone of shame and keep inside.

Whiskeypowers · 22/10/2022 22:36

Is there a reason he’s not fully vaccinated?
i’m not being goading it’s a genuine question
In terms of the wound I would clean it with a cotton wool ball soaked in cool boiled salt water three or four times a day
keep an eye out for signs of temperature or infection but fingers crossed

Whiskeypowers · 22/10/2022 22:37

If he won’t tolerate a cone there are soft versions

Yes, he's an idiot who has various weird reactions to everything including flea treatment! The vet said not to because he's low risk and refers to him as "are you really sick or just an Ollie weird thing?"
When I say goes out, he totters next door and back in the hope of ham and drinking out their water feature

Cone already tried and no joy - he is being very good and can't reach it to lick/ scratch so either his mate is doing it for him unlikely or he's doing it going to next door

Ollie will hate me for this, but have you tried a baby-gro type thing? I bought one made for cats online years ago when one of mine wouldn't leave his wound alone. It had loops that went round his back legs so he couldn't wriggle out of it.

Toddlerteaplease · 22/10/2022 22:50

You can get a blood stop stick thing. I'm not sure if it leaves a film but it did the trick when one of mine had a cut. You can buy them in the medical section of PAH.

PeloFondo · 22/10/2022 22:51

I think babygro might be an idea
I've experimented with a pair of tights and he isn't too mad at it

Happy to take him to the vets in 3 days (pay day) but it really is such a surface level graze, if he would stop scraping it, it is healing nicely Angry

I'm using clinisoothe to clean it

I'll have a look! It'll be dry by tomorrow, start to scab and then he needs a padded cell

Sorry Ollie, but Cheddar and I have just laughed out loud at you in your tights. 😂😂 we would pay good money to see you in a baby gro. My parent cat had a vest from the vet. That they had to cut the legs off and he wore it like a t shirt.

He would need a prem babygro I think
I mean that's the leg of my tights and I know I'm giant but.. Grin

My cat had similar and kept scratching the scab off. He made it worse. The hair went too from all the scratching.
I brought him to the vet and he was prescribed a medicine to stop it getting infected. We also got a pink liquid to clean the wound as often as we could and a cream to put on the wound.
The combination of these seemed to stop the itching and the wound has cleared up nicely now.

PeloFondo · 22/10/2022 23:04

Sigh. I'll give them a ring on Monday

He's an expensive cat. The last flea treatment he had, he keeled over in his litter tray and we ended up at out of hours. Where he chirped happily at the vet and cost me £160
The last "weird Ollie thing" was 3 days in the vets and over 2 grand Hmm
He doesn't want for anything but I thought I could try a couple of things at home but no..

Ollie looks very fetching! 😄

Defiantlynot41 · 23/10/2022 00:32

The cat baby grows come in small sizes (here is DCat2; 2.4kg at the time). I'm happy because on a higher dose of thyroid meds, we are back up to 2.8 kg

Ollievus just like Snorg and the late Fatty. A vet laughed and said "And they don't get things normal cats get. It's always something really unusual" Also very pricey!

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 23/10/2022 07:10

This was a small dog jumper, that the vet recommended when my old boy Monty had an operation to remove a lump (injection site)

I used an inflatable cone for mine when he had a similar sore patch. He didn’t mind it and even wore it outside.

It's so annoying! I'm being reluctant to take him to the vet as they will probably say recovery suit I guess? So I would save my money buying the suit, but then if I buy it and it doesn't work..
I don't know

I think the one I got was about £5 so cheaper than the vet, and if it doesn't work at least it was only a fiver?
