Bright ideas for a wound?

Warning, contains wound pics!

Ollie caught his back on something, it was healing nicely. Then he pulled the scab off. He's just done exactly the same thing again and I think it's when he is nosying about outside and catching it on a hedge maybe

I can't keep him in - this cat has an inability to be quiet and will keep up the song of his people for hours on end to the point you need subtitles on the TV...

If he was human I would have put a padded dressing on it but.. cat Grin
It's clean, and it heals but he just keeps ripping the damn scab off
Pic this morning and now

I think the one I got was about £5 so cheaper than the vet, and if it doesn't work at least it was only a fiver?

Oh I will have a look Smile
I called him a little git this morning then he purred at me so all is forgiven for now

CandyCare Cat Recovery Suit Recovery Suit Pet Protective Clothing After Op Sterilisation Weaning Anti-Leak Collar Alternative Elastic Skin-friendly Breathable with Small Bell(Blue,M) amzn.eu/0cjAodE

This isn't the one I got, but has had reasonable reviews. They look like on average the suits are around a tenner, although there's a camo one I am sorely tempted to buy for Frankenstein that's £17, just cause I think he'd look cute in it

You can get antibiotic powder for cats & dogs that also helps to dry the wound out (lovely night on Tuesday draining the abscess under Jazzy's chin 😏).

See it dries up fine. Then it scabs and starts healing which I'm guessing is itchy. So the little git walks under something to scratch it and drags the scab off Angry
It's clean and dry this morning.. everything crossed

Vet wrap bandages are great they stick to themselves and the elasta plast on a roll sticks to fur really well.
dermoline wound cream sort of keeps the scab soft so it doesn’t flick off easily but does heal.
I would try the dermoline and vet wrap bandage. Will only cost £15 tops

PeloFondo · 23/10/2022 14:39

Google helpfully gave me this idea so the vet wrap with some non adhesive dressing is my next try and then it's off to the vet

Not laughing

Definitely not laughing

Papergirl1968 · 25/10/2022 11:04

How is Ollie now?

PortiasBiscuit · 25/10/2022 11:08

Watch if you do put one of those recovery suits on a cat. Rubbed our baby completely raw at the top of both her back legs

How is Ollie now?

It's scabbed over currently so crossed fingers

@PortiasBiscuit my parents cut the legs off their cats. And he wore it like a t shirt. Though they only put it on him when he was supervised. Apparently he was as good as golf in having it put on. 🤔

Good!
toddler, I read that as your parents cut the legs off their cats, rather than the legs off their cat's recovery suit. I was thinking, blimey, that's a bit drastic!

I read that and thought wtf too. 🤣

PeloFondo · 25/10/2022 11:43

Oh and the vet wrap is out for delivery today Blush so I'll be giving it a go before he yanks the scab off again!

You can get a blood stop stick thing. I'm not sure if it leaves a film but it did the trick when one of mine had a cut. You can buy them in the medical section of PAH.

I thought you meant Princess Alexandra Hospital. Very confused due a minute!!

Toddlerteaplease · 25/10/2022 12:06

Just to clarify that Mithril still has all four legs!

PeloFondo · 25/10/2022 12:25

Ollie might not have all 4 legs if he scratches it again
Here he is, looking innocent this morning

Relieved to see all cats' legs present and and correct! 😂
Pretty please can we have a pic of Ollie in his wrap when It arrives?

PeloFondo · 25/10/2022 12:36

I've just checked and I think it's actually looking better?

I used bandages and tape on ddog when he was operated on, he could remove any style of cone in minutes the Houdini! We then layered socks (was his leg and he peeled them off but he couldn't get the bandage off

Athenajm80 · 25/10/2022 15:15

My cats are most annoyed at Ollie. I went looking for cat surgery body suits and found these on Amazon as a pack of four and had to buy them for Lexter, who lost lots of fur a few years ago and it's never properly grown back, and Frankie who seems to be allergic to fleas so despite treatment, he doesn't leave his sore bits alone to heal.

I told him it's safety for when he goes outside prancing about
He's happy enough walking around in it
