Help! Cats tip over water containers

I'm at my wits end with my cats.
They had a water fountain but constantly tiled it over.

I've tried a different design of water fountain and all sorts of other containers including one with a large silicone mat as a base and a stainless steel bown that fits inside.

They still tip everything over. Clearly they need access to fresh water, but how?

What's wrong with a water bowl changed frequently. I have had cats all my life and never used a water fountain. That being said my cats drink from glasses, the sink and the garden.

Toddlerteaplease · 07/04/2022 13:04

Toddler bowls with suction cups on the bottom.

Snog · 07/04/2022 13:53

@Toddlerteaplease genius I'll give it a go

How about those ones you can get that sit in a sort of holder?

Maybe one like this or this

Snog · 07/04/2022 13:56

@Rupertpenrysmistress what's with a normal water bowl frequently changed? As I said they upturn it and spill it all over the floor. I'm not Ok with cats on the kitchen counter or in sinks or with them drinking from human glasses.

I gave my cat his own glass on the windowsill he also turns on the bathroom tap

Snog · 07/04/2022 13:58

@Allergictoironing thanks for those suggestions. They are likely to upend the whole structure of those ones. They are big strong clever boys and they love to hurl water around.

I had this with my cats . In the end I purchased a very heavy square low vase , hopeless as a vase but fab as a drinking bowl . They love it & no way is it tipping over ( they have tried !)

Snog · 07/04/2022 14:02

These are ones that I have tried and I have also tried normal mason and cash ceramic bowls

@catsareme14 thinking outside the box!
Maybe a heavy ash tray like you'd get in a pub would work?

This is the case I use

Mine have a heavy ceramic one made for dogs for the same reason! They flip everything else, but this one's too heavy: Mason Cash Cane Ceramic Dog Bowl, 5 inch, Blue www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B002QKKTA8/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_CFYZYXGFCM1H1PEJQPCS?psc=1

This one is the worst offender although he learned from his big bro.

My cat shows no inclination to drink water. She must get enough moisture from Felix pouches.

Snog · 07/04/2022 14:25

Big thanks to people who have shared how they have cracked this problem or given me new ideas to try Thanks

You need a big ceramic dog bowl. Cats prefer them, they're too heavy to tip over and their whiskers don't touch the sides!

Electrified · 07/04/2022 14:34

We got a huuuge ceramic dog bowl. DCat now drinks from the pond....

I was going to suggest a very large ceramic dog bowl too. You could put Velcro on the bottom and stick it to the floor… (Bad cats! Grin)

So typical isn't it? Mine does drink from hers but given a choice will choose rain water from the garden furniture Hmm

Frlrlrubert · 07/04/2022 14:46

Great big ceramic dog bowl (he shares it with the dogs to be fair). I think he mostly drinks from puddles on his outings though, I hardly ever see him drink.

catblanket · 07/04/2022 14:50

They like to see the water move before they drink. It’s a cat thing. Try a drinking fountain for cats instead.

RestingPandaFace · 07/04/2022 14:54

Maybe got be overkill for a Dcat but had this problem with Ddog and we eventually got an old glass washing machine window from a scrapyard which he just couldn’t tip.

Rupertpenrysmistress · 07/04/2022 15:30

Sorry no offense intended. Of course I don't allow my cats on the work tops it's the bathroom and my bedside table. Suction bowls sound ace though.
