My cat might be pregnant! 😃

So happy!!! She is 18 months old. Vet checked her out today because she was due her injections, I reminded him that she was not spayed yet as I wanted her to have a litter and he examined her and believes she is pregnant! That means she cannot have her injections for a few weeks more until after she gives birth. Due approx April 11th - 17th.

My grown up children are more than excited, so am I. I have a list of family members who would like a kitten if possible and I am going to keep one for myself and her. Grin Grin

My children bought me her as a present one Christmas during Covid and she has been the best companion ever. I had previously lost my little dog and other cat due to old age. I will get her spayed after this litter though as the intention was to only let her deliberately have one litter.

I hope all goes well and I am just so excited! Grin

@Svara

Why can't they do early neutering in the UK. In Australia rescue kittens are rehomed at 9 weeks already neutered. I think it's because of the feral cats killing native wildlife.
They can, but not all vets agree with it and will refuse until the kittens are six months old.

Our vet is one that won't neuter until six months - IMO it's daft as females can go on heat much younger and if you have kids and a cat on heat, the likelihood of them escaping out of a door or window is going to be pretty high!

Svara · 05/03/2022 20:06

@thecatneuterer
Oh okay. I have only rescued older kittens but friends have rescued unneutered kittens from a cat charity and been given a voucher to have them neutered later. Friend had to wait until 2kg.

Svara · 05/03/2022 20:09

My friend had brother and sister kittens too so were anxious to have at least one done asap!

thecatneuterer · 05/03/2022 20:12

@Svara well I suppose it depends on the rescue. Some small ones won't have their own vets and will rely on private vets, which of course have their own rules.

Jobseeker19 · 05/03/2022 20:20

I live in a area full of rats and mice and no amount of poison can keep them under control.
I actually welcome stray cats. I have lived in a country where cats are everywhere and they are also no major mice issues.
Stop trying to control nature by forcing animals to be sterilised so that you can get more years out of them.
Who decided cats are for lonely humans?

Svara · 05/03/2022 20:25

@Jobseeker19
If you live rurally you could adopt a couple of farm cats. They always have some semi-ferals that need homes at my local rescue, I think you just provide shelter and a meal a day. It doesn't mean cats need to be left to breed.

thecatneuterer · 05/03/2022 20:43

@Jobseeker19 One female cat, left unneutered to breed will, assuming all her offspring survive and go on to breed, and they all survive etc, produce an extra 21,000 cats or thereabouts in just 7 years. The only reason you can actually set foot outside your house, in whatever country you're in, without having to tread on a metre deep carpet of cats, is because the vast, vast majority in this scenario will die, of either predation or starvation, before they reach adulthood.

Even in the UK, the average cat living in a colony, will see 75 per cent of her kittens die before they reach 6 months. And if the numbers were to become so dense that starvation would become a much bigger factor, then probably fewer than 5 per cent would be likely to make it.

Yes this is 'natural', but it's fucking barbaric. If humans lived 'naturally' we'd be in caves still and the average life expectancy would be 20. Natural doesn't mean good. And these colonies don't arise naturally either. They start because someone takes on a kitten and then doesn't neuter it. It's a man-made problem.

As long as there are irresponsible humans there will be cat colonies and suffering. And yes, it's quite possible to have cats as mousers, and many rescues have plenty of these looking for placements, but they are all neutered.

Why can't you look for a couple of feral/farm/barn cats?

There are normally always some available via rescue.

thecatneuterer · 05/03/2022 20:51

@fairylightsandwaxmelts she doesn't need to - owing to living in a country with a huge feral cat problem and to not apparently giving a shit about cat welfare.

MrsWeasely · 05/03/2022 21:25

How utterly selfish. Shame on you.
And for all those saying its fine as she has homes lined up for kittens- those are homes which are now potentially taken away from cats and kittens in need in rescues.

PollyCreo · 05/03/2022 21:58

Oh, my comment has been deleted.

Try coping with 500 feral cats in a town, it's over run. There is a charity here (not UK) that tries to trap, spay and neuter all the cats. Unfortunately you have the ignorant locals (and yes they are Fucking ignorant!) who think it's ok to let cats walk around with their bollocks hanging out.

@SheAndHerAreWomen

Oh blimey leave the OP alone you meanies! I would be very excited to be a kitten granny Grin Hope mummy cat has a smooth pregnancy 🐱
I have grand-kittens! 3 of them adopted though. But they are so cute
NowEvenBetter · 05/03/2022 23:02

The ‘meanie’ is the person making her animal breed, recklessly, just releasing her unspayed animal loose to be impregnated by some random cat, adding to the cat overpopulation problem, breeding more cats, maybe or maybe not surviving labour, for literally no reason. There’s no justification for it.

100% agree with this
MyAnacondaMight · 06/03/2022 12:10

Cat was itself a Christmas present - the very definition of irresponsible pet ownership.

Hoping this is a wind up and the next post will be confirm that it’s twins. Otherwise this is horrendous.

Hoppinggreen · 06/03/2022 12:56
@Hoppinggreen I don’t think she plans on artificial insemination but rather nature taking it’s course. Hope you don’t eat milk/dairy if you’re against artificial insemination of animals btw!!
Well I am very confused
At no point have I mentioned artificial insemination

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 06/03/2022 13:02

With nature taking its course WRT cats they will mate with several Toms over the time period ( I did read somewhere that a male cats spikey penis trigers ovulation ) so she can have any number of risks from potential FIV uncastrated males cats

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 06/03/2022 22:47

Awwwwwwww. Congratulations to mummy cat. Wishing her a happy abd healthy pregnancy and indeed congrats to you on the upcoming arrival of your gran fur babies. Kittens are absolutely delicious, aren't they
