Poorly cat won’t eat, what is appetising that we can try?

Have tried all sorts. She’s losing weight and we’ve just started treatment for a possible auto immune disorder.
Have tried all sorts and she’s just not interested. She will eat the cat yoghurts. Sometimes eats Purina one biscuits. Used to always eat the good as it looks felix and purina (?) savoury cake. She might have a bit of chicken. She won’t have Tuna or sardines. Not much interested in a slurp of cream at moment.
Has anyone got any suggestions what might tempt a poorly cat with no appetite please.

mine always went for chicken lick e lix and lilys kitchen chicken when poorly

generally the stinkier the better - warming up just a little aids the stench enough sometimes

Lubeyboobyalt · 24/02/2022 11:19

the sheba fish ones in jelly are also super stinky - if your cat has never had them they will likely go nuts for it - mine also went off it quickly as well though so I had a rotation of lilys kitchen and sheba

You could try plain, steamed white fish if you haven't already.

twointhemorning · 24/02/2022 11:22

Wafer thin honey roast ham from Marks and Spencer...

CrimeaChimera · 24/02/2022 11:24

We have an ill cat with stomach lymphoma. She is good with poached white fish and poached prawns. She quite liked a McDonalds fish fillet f after her recent scan, but she has gone downhill now and we are in the last few days. But prawns really worked. Plus also ham. The vet said the salt in it did not really matter.

thecatneuterer · 24/02/2022 11:31

I find hot chicken-shop chicken works wonders.

Custardpudding · 24/02/2022 11:37

There are some great ideas here, thank you. Moving her off metacam to steroids and that might give her an appetite eventually.
She likes the licky lick webex yogurt and vet suggested meds in it. Hadn’t thought about warming it, thank you. She’s so poorly and miserable and it’s making me cry. I’m hoping if she will eat a bit it might brighten her up a bit and liven her up.

If she is nauseous that might affect her. Ours has had to have anti nausea injections every now and then and it really works. I hope she is better soon.

Floralnomad · 24/02/2022 11:38

Good prawns .

Mia184 · 24/02/2022 13:33

Salmon defrosted and heated through without salt. This is my cat’s favorite treat. However, it has to be wild salmon. She won’t touch farmed salmon. Hmm

Pixiedust1234 · 24/02/2022 13:58

if she is having trouble digesting food then stay off the biscuits. Mine can't have any dried food atm as it causes her tummy spasms and a lot of pain and therefore refuses all food. Its only something we have realised recently and is linked to her health problem (currently being investigated).

We stick to wet food but she still has bad days so we cook a piece of whitefish or haddock as fish is more easily digestible. We warm up her food, we even handfeed her. The aim is to get enough inside her to give her strength. In a couple of days she attempts to eat normal wet food which contain the taurine and vitamins needed (complete cat food as opposed to partial - not all supermarket cat food is complete).

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 24/02/2022 16:26

Fresh roast chicken.

Fluffycloudland77 · 24/02/2022 18:57

You can sprinkle dry catnip on cat food or you could ask the vet how they feel about trying mirtazapine which is a human antidepressant that stimulates appetite.

ClarasZoo · 24/02/2022 18:59

Lick e licks are what my cat loves. When very poorly and would not eat we smeared on paws so he had to lick it off… thankfully he recovered….

SwissCheddars · 24/02/2022 19:01

Ask your vet to give you some mirtazapine to get the cat started. Then maybe tinned fish.

Francescaisstressed · 24/02/2022 19:03

My cat loves the encore mackarel loins - he was quite poorly before and that's how we got him back eating. quite pricey but the fat and oils are high calorie so good for weight gain if needed
Purina also do a fussy eater collection I'm sure, so that's worth a try?

Hereforthedramaz · 24/02/2022 19:06

Wafer ham and chicken were generally pretty realiable and precooked chicken breast.

But when all else failed mine will always eat Brussels pate. And easy to press tablets into or squirt medicine on to.

She's now a nightmare if I try and eat pate but it was good in an emergency!

Cally62 · 24/02/2022 19:09

Soft scrambled egg, perhaps grated cheese sprinkled on top of cat food, parmesan cheese, poached chicken. M&S thin sliced pork loin, honey roast ham.

Hope this helps.

AwkwardSquad · 24/02/2022 19:11

We used to add a dab of Shiphams fish paste to tempt poorly cats - it’s very stinky. Hope you find something to tempt her Flowers

Netty909 · 24/02/2022 19:13

My cats used to love a can of pilchards in tomato sauce. My friend who’s a vet said that she gave this to her poorly cat as it is strong smelling and they can lick the sauce and may eat a little of the pilchard mashed up too. Hope she feels better soon.

Einszwei · 24/02/2022 19:41

When our cat was I'll we were told by the vet to microwave the food to make it smelly.

Cat milk was also useful when she was simply too weak to eat as she could lick it off a spoon whilst laying down.

Okeydoky · 24/02/2022 19:47

Tins of chicken Thrive and Thrive freeze dried chicken Thrive and/or prawn treats crumbled on food

Beachbreak2411 · 24/02/2022 19:50

Mine like scrambled egg when not feeling well.. or really stinky fish (tinned sardines or mackerel are their faves). Second the warming up their food trick .. and mine seem to prefer it off a plate not a bowl

Custardpudding · 26/02/2022 22:42

Thank you all so much. I’m going to save a list. We’ve tried tuna and sardines in the last couple of days, and chicken… nope! She’s having a few Iams biscuits and still having yoghurts. I’ve been warming food up too. I’m going try cooking some fish next week and it’s ham for breakfast!

Porridge or mashed potato are both tempting to some poorly cats.
