Would a cleaner change the litter tray?

I live on my own with my cat tribe and find that with my two jobs and health issues I am not always on top of changing the litter trays. I use recycled ones that you can just throw out as emptying and cleaning the plastic ones makes me heave.

I was wondering whether if I employed a cleaner (not just for litter trays!) would changing the litter trays be something they would be ok to do?

No! That's not what you should ask a cleaner to do.

GinF1zz · 19/01/2022 22:44

Honestly, I don't think so. You'd need to pay a pet sitter to do that. I'm sure they would, even if they weren't actually pet sitting

Northernsoullover · 19/01/2022 22:46

I'm a former cleaner and cat litter makes me heave. I wouldn't have done it and it would be rude to ask.

Want2beme · 19/01/2022 22:54

I don't see why not. There's bound to be someone with cats who's used to doing that. I have to clean some pretty grim things in my business, and I'd rather clean a litter tray any dayGrin

womaninatightspot · 19/01/2022 22:58

I feel like litter trays are one of those daily jobs you wouldn't leave it for a cleaner surely? Tray liners and a decent amount of cat litter, people often put a tiny amount out, like a 5-8cm covering. Covered tray with a handle take the whole thing to the wheelie bin lift. Unclip lid, lift out liner, spray wipe with kitchen roll. Use cheap litter and change the whole thing daily and it won't smell.

FinallyFluid · 19/01/2022 23:01

Why don't you get them to wipe your arse as well, your post actually made me heave. Envy

NewtoHolland · 19/01/2022 23:01

I think if you were honest from the start and said it was one of the jobs you would like included when you initially message someone then that would possibly be something some would consider. However it's a daily job and assuming cleaner would be coming just once a week so it wouldn't lighten your load very much?

Viviennemary · 19/01/2022 23:03

No. I don't think they would be prepared to do that.

minipie · 19/01/2022 23:07

How many cats do you have?

You could pay a cat sitter to come in and play with the cats while you are at work, and change the trays as part of that. Not a cleaner. But not a cheap option.

MsFogi · 19/01/2022 23:09

I don't see why not if it is part of the job spec from the outset - ie the role includes doing this and it is then open for potential cleaners to decide whether or not to take the role. No doubt it will put some people off but not others.

EachandEveryone · 19/01/2022 23:11

Can you pay a cat sitter to come in for 30mins a week? Mine did that after i had an op.

RosesAndHellebores · 19/01/2022 23:13

I have a cat and a cleaner. Fortunately the cat goes outside but there have been times when he's been ill or we have moved when he's had to stay in.

  1. I would never, ever ask my cleaner to deal with the litter tray.
  1. For the sake of my cat the litter tray, when required, is dealt with daily. Poo goes down the loo, litter goes into a bag, tray gets washed and rinsed and dries and the tea towel set aside in a bag every day for a weekly 95° wash with the other 6 tea towels.
lisaandalan · 19/01/2022 23:14

If you get a cleaner to do the jobs you usually do then surely you will have more time to do the cat trays yourself. X

felinelucky · 19/01/2022 23:15

An overnight cat sitter yes. A cleaner, no.

Bakewelltart987 · 19/01/2022 23:18

You really don't have a spare 5 mins to sort it yourself?

Mykittensaremyfriends · 19/01/2022 23:21

Cats Best Clumping Cat Litter is an absolute game changer. It absorbs the liquid and sticks to the poo and prevents odour so you can just scoop out the balls (without the need to heave) and not have to change or throw out the whole contents of the tray. Occasionally need to top it up and a bag lasts months so works out a lot cheaper in the long run in comparison to the more traditional cat litter. Honestly try it it'll change your life and you won't have to employ anyone else to do it for you Smile

Borland · 19/01/2022 23:22

I don't really think it's fair for you to keep multiple pets if you can't take care of their basic needs. I definitely would not ask a cleaner to do this.

jamfirstcreamsecond · 19/01/2022 23:25

Re flushing cat poo down the loo. I can't speak for those outside the UK but, our water and sewage systems aren’t designed to kill off the parasites in cat faeces so, by flushing your cat’s poop down the toilet, the parasite can enter the environment via waterways, and end up infecting someone if they come into contact with it.

Shmithecat2 · 19/01/2022 23:28

Use decent clumping litter if you don't already, but no, it's not something I ever asked my cleaner to do unless they were housesitting for us when we were away. It's not their job to clean up anyone's shit, let alone their cats.

I have 6 cats, 2 litter trays. I use PAH own clumping litter (10L in each tray). I scoop the trays several times a day, and then total change/deep clean once a week or so.

Indeed. I scoop into a biodegradable doggy poo bag, and then it goes in the outside wheelie bin.

Not sure where you got the flushing down the loo from - I also scoop into a biodegradable bag and put it in the wheelie bin. Should also have said the if you use a tray liner you rarely have to clean the tray itself as the litter and any accidents ate contained.

@Mykittensaremyfriends

That's what @RosesAndHellebores said -

RosesAndHellebores · 20/01/2022 06:18

I didn't know. I'll never do it again.

MichelleScarn · 20/01/2022 06:32

How many in your 'tribe'? Agree with pp May be best to look for someone like a pet sitter to do this, but really should be done on a daily basis.
Are the tribe all inside cats?

MrsSkylerWhite · 20/01/2022 06:36

Some will, some won’t. Just ask. Don’t be offended if they say no.
