Would a cleaner change the litter tray?

I live on my own with my cat tribe and find that with my two jobs and health issues I am not always on top of changing the litter trays. I use recycled ones that you can just throw out as emptying and cleaning the plastic ones makes me heave.

I was wondering whether if I employed a cleaner (not just for litter trays!) would changing the litter trays be something they would be ok to do?

Surely this is a wind up?

You have a 'tribe' of indoor cats yet work 2 jobs and can't keep on top of their trays?

Do them a favour and get them a home where they will be looked after properly.

@Tdcp

Who does yours?!

I'm a cleaner ... I don't do other people's litter trays.

Ahh sorry. I thought you meant you didn't do your own!

I can see why, I should have mentioned the being a cleaner part 😂

LoveTuesday · 20/01/2022 14:27

I've been a cleaner, and I wouldn't mind doing it, in answer to the original question.

shoutinginasoundproofedroom · 17/01/2024 22:02

Have you used one of these? Any good?

Get a couple of self cleaning litter trays like these: Omega Paw Roll'n Clean Self Cleaning Litter Box Large www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0187G1CK0/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_FE538PA4R9JBQJFAGZ8E?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

Have you used one of these before? Are they any good?

Mabelface · 18/01/2024 08:23

My son has a similar one and very much enjoys not cleaning the tray. 😉

Snowydaysfaraway · 18/01/2024 08:25

Cleaner here.. Wouldn't mind at all op
..

Noorandapples · 18/01/2024 08:34

You could splash out on an automatic self cleaning cat litter box from amazon

Cats Best Litter is brilliant. The pee forms a solid lump. The poo smell is masked if they bury. One of mine does. One doesn’t. Two trays.

you run the risk of your cats not finding the toilet facilities to their liking and using elsewhere

I'd say it's worth asking... Ask if it's on their lost of chores. If they say no and you want it, ask what might be an acceptable amount to add. If its not something they're averse to, tell them that if they finish early and need to fill the time, feel free!

wasanneofcleves · 18/01/2024 09:35
  1. No you can't ask your cleaner to do that.
  1. You need to change the litter tray daily. It's cruel to your cats not to do so. Having a job is not an excuse.
Whiskeypowers · 18/01/2024 09:38

on some cleaning firm websites you can stipulate pet care including litter tray cleaning as one of the jobs you want doing. So it’s not unheard of by any means.

Moier · 18/01/2024 09:47

I have a sifting scoopless litter tray.. you only have to scoop out the poo. When my cat pees and scratches after it goes through to the bottom tray.. you can only use wood pellets .. empty bottom tray once a week. Doesn't smell..and use less pellets.

PurpleBrain · 18/01/2024 09:58

No I would not do it .

ColdCrispMornings · 18/01/2024 10:00

Our cleaner does, but she’s been with us years, her job has evolved into doing more than cleaning which she is happy with. She loves animals so does various things for us for our animals.

Some cleaners are happy to do things like this, others aren’t. You can only ask.

I'm a former cleaner and cat litter makes me heave. I wouldn't have done it and it would be rude to ask.

@Northernsoullover

a cleaner can choose what they will
)or won't) do.

However, it's certainly not rude to ASK.

@Athenajm80

it's fine to ask. I'm not a cleaner but I used to own a commercial & domestic cleaning company - it's far from the weirdest request!

There will be cleaners who have no problem doing it, just find one of those. No need to mess around with a cleaner who thinks it's rude to ASK.

ZOMBIE ZOMBIE ZOMBIE

Justbtealised it's been revived. Probably to sell their product 🙇🏻‍♀️🙇🏻‍♀️🙇🏻‍♀️

FrostyFogg · 18/01/2024 10:12

I have been a cleaner and a domiciliary care worker, and have never batted an eye at being asked to empty a litter tray. But then I grew up on a farm!

FrostyFogg · 18/01/2024 10:15

Also I did not realise it's a zombie thread, but still interesting to see how many people think it's a terrible thing to ask. Cleaner can only say no

shoutinginasoundproofedroom · 18/01/2024 12:39

I found the thread because I was interested in self-cleaning litter trays

Ibizafun · 18/01/2024 20:07

I would never ask my cleaner to do that while I'm home but if I wasn't home, yes she'd do it.
