Will our kitten always be this way or can we teach him?

We have a 13 week old Bengal and we are all absolutely in love with him.

He's very different from the previous moggies that we have owned in the past (who were also lovely, just different).

Thing is - he eats everything.

He's like a puppy when it comes to food. He will leap up, want to eat your food constantly. He will eat whatever is on your plate.

I've heard Bengals are similar to dogs.

So will he learn after we repeatedly put him on the floor?
I'd rather not shut the poor thing out of the room.

My handsome furry friend.

But he's so beautiful. And so good. Just look at his saintly little face! Surely he deserves all the food!

Sorry, no idea how to stop him.

MrsSkylerWhite · 02/11/2021 19:33

I would give him anything he wanted from my plate.

Does that help Grin

Mosaic123 · 02/11/2021 19:33

So pretty.

maffhew · 02/11/2021 19:37

I don't know how you could possibly say no to that face

HappyBirthdayMrPresident · 02/11/2021 19:45

Look at his wee paws 🐾

EvilRingahBitch · 02/11/2021 19:50

Sorry OP. The Litter Tray is normally a doubt of wise advice but he has defeated us.

Deadringer · 02/11/2021 19:52

Is he a Bengal? He looks just like my moggy. We feed our cat in the porch and shut her in while we eat, she is a bit of a greedy guts too.

bigbeautwoman · 02/11/2021 19:53

Be firm! Don’t feed from your plate. Cats are fuckers, I have two they will walk all over you literally if you let them. But they are the best!

AltitudeCheck · 02/11/2021 19:54

Our boy is also a pain around food, we fill a treat dispenser with biscuits to distract him while we eat

reallyworriedjobhunter · 02/11/2021 19:56

Lay him his own place at the table so he doesn't have to encroach on yours?

JasperTheHungry · 02/11/2021 19:57

Just make an extra plate for him and allow him a place at the table :)

In seriousness, we had a kitten like this and he did learn. Eventually. Though he’s now 4 and still has to be locked out if we’re eating pizza because manners

LastToBePicked · 02/11/2021 19:57

We have a Bengal cross and she is an absolute menace at the dinner table and will not be trained, sorry.

Hopeisallineed · 02/11/2021 19:59

I would set him a place at the table.

DoraChance · 02/11/2021 19:59

No experience with Bengals but my Maine Coon used to do this. He did grow out of it. Although mainly because he's causing mayhem elsewhere. What a beautiful kitten.

couchparsnip · 02/11/2021 20:19

He looks very similar to one of mine!
He tries to eat from our plates and hasn't learnt not to yet! I tend to give the cats their food just before dinnertime so they are full and tired. If that doesn't work I shut them out but I don't like doing that!

My Dad gave the cat his own chair and fed him cheese Grin. Otherwise give him some treat food if his own in a different room. It’s fine to shut them out if it’s only for a short while. One of our cats would eat anything - broccoli was a big favourite Confused - we accommodated her when it was us and shut her out of room when eating with guests. Enjoy the cuddles! What a gorgeous kitten.

He is indeed.

I saw all his brothers and sisters, mum and dad.

Him and one other looked less bengal than the others I must admit, some of them were stunning!

But this one was male and wasn't a snow Bengal so was the less expensive of the litter.
Plus we loved him.

In other pics I feel like you can see the Bengal.

Mine was very food orientated, he was an absolute pain. He'd walk over the table when we were eating and would shove his face in our plates of food. We would shut him out of the kitchen just to have some peace. As he got older we got a kitchen stool for him to sit on. However he now prefers to lie on the windowsill and watches my partner eat. When he gets to the end of his dinner and puts e.g. a piece of chicken to one side, Haribo sits up and has a look of excitement on his face because he knows it's for him. Not so much when it's vegetarian meals. He supplements his diet with flies, spiders and other bugs.

Thing is he's still greedy and is a chubster. I think know the vet is going to say he's a fatty when he goes for his boosters.

GrandOld · 02/11/2021 21:14

My non bengal is a total begger of food. She will eat everything!
It took a while of me pushing her away/moving her head from my plate and she will sit nicely next to me when I eat.

TroysMammy · 02/11/2021 21:23

Forgot to add Haribo is not a Bengal.

NeverDropYourMoonCup · 02/11/2021 21:31

Mine are pitas when they're on cheaper cat food. Give them the posher stuff (gluten free, high meat content) along with some GF, high meat crunches and they sleep though all but the preparing of raw meat and fish in the kitchen.
