If your cat brought up yellow bile, how did it end?

(First of all, he was rushed to vet a&e today, got a basic check-up, an x-ray and a ultrasound scan and I am quite a bit poorer this month)
Our new shelter cat has come home, and on the second morning he regurgitated his rather large dinner(s) from the night before. He has been bringing up bile, not too much, every few hours and hasn’t eaten today.
The emergency vet couldn’t find an obstruction on either the xray or the ultrasound, his temperature was only slightly raised, wasn’t yet dehydrated, just tired and sad. They did find lots if gas collected in his system, but also noted that any obstruction in the small gas area wouldn’t show up on the screen.
We are going back tomorrow for another scan and blood tests etc.
Has anyone had their cat bringing up a deep, golden bile (not brown, not orange, not lime green) (sorry tmi), and food remnants were only really in the first round? Was your cat ok, what treatment did your cat need, what happened?
Please help, I am so worried he will die, I lost my 15-year old tomcat a few years ago and it was very traumatic. It still is.
Before he came I scoured the room for small pieces like lego, hairbands, and small parts, there are no toxins in the room, old logs removed, it could only be a mouse he found or i am scared that the cooked chicken I gave him may have had a bone left, (though i checked with my hands beforehand). No bones showed up in the scans. There is neither soil nor plants in the rooms.
He did eat his wet food voraciously when he arrived , and was previously a stray, and is so sweet and lovely I am distraught.

All suggestions appreciated for our second trip to the vets tomorrow, anything the vet could check for. Because he is new I don’t even have insurance yet but we can painfully manage these costs. He is hiding now because he is poorly, and didn’t like going to the vet, yesterday he was so very cuddly. I love him already.

Mine had intestine issues making a blockages more likely, which resulted in a blockage. She had a chunk of intestine removed and now has special food to help keep things moving but she's fine

More TMI:
——————————
I did notice that mine had mustard-coloured , soft poo at the shelter , I pointed out that he seemed to have diahorrhea and they put it down to stress because he had just changed rooms and was now with new cats in a bigger room.

A little bump for more ideas this morning

Could I ask which food you gave and whether it was the same as the food he had been eating previously at the shelter?

Igmum · 20/10/2021 05:47

No advice but sending love and a handhold. He certainly is a handsome chap ❤️

HairyFeline · 20/10/2021 06:02

Some moggies just have delicate stomachs though, don’t they? I hope your vet helps your lovely moggy. Don’t know if this will help but chicken used to give one of my cats awful belly ache, squitty poo, throw up, and so on… but he’d demolish his usual biscuits without a grumble from his inners!

Moving home is very stressful and advice I always followed with my moggies was to stick to shelter diet for five days before gradually bringing in new food.

Your moggy seemed to have an upset tum at the shelter to start with so perhaps he just needs a sensitive food diet. Royal canin do one, I’m sure, as do Hills.

Hope he soon gets better. He looks lovely. He will be a little upset about all these dramas and appointments so keep doing what you’re doing: strokes, pets, play, though let him have a safe space too. Perhaps a box with holes in that you could poke a feather through?!
Good luck

Hopefully the vet will have better ideas but my cat used to have bouts of sickness - be off for a couple of days and then recover.we did tests etc but a she was just like this-from about 10 years old.She recovered and we just gave her a tiny bit of chicken if she would it eat it and left her alone.

Sunshine2468 · 20/10/2021 06:34

Poor kitty, could he have allergies?
I say this because one of my cats is allergic to lots of stuff. It causes his small intestine to go hard and he just vomits and squirts, even after all the food is gone. The vomit was bile, once the food was out, orange and all mucus. It has been life threatening, but we have worked out food that he can eat.
If it is this, I have loads of advice. But right now I would take his off any dry food, that includes any treats.

Mindymomo · 20/10/2021 07:05

Bringing up yellow bile is often hunger pukes especially if he is bringing up his food his tummy will be empty. I would feed small portions to see if he can keep that down.

AppleButter · 20/10/2021 08:17

The x-ray showed no tracheal obstructions but gas bubbles further down.
The vomiting started yesterday morning, all his food brought up. Since then he hasn’t eaten.
The evening before the vomiting , was the day he arrived, he ate half of pack of wet food, same as shelter, and a portion of cooked, torn chicken. There shouldn’t have been any bones in there. But there is a tiny chance there might have been a tiny one.
He vomits a bit of bile every few hours, there is liquid in there so he must be drinking. And he urinated well in his box so he must have drunk something.
There was definitely a loose mustard- stool at the shelter, I only saw it because I sat there for a long while and I saw him on the litter box. I think the shelter could have missed it because when it lands in the clumping litter, you don’t always see the colour.
He is also very skinny, bony. His body seems too thin for his muscular legs and face. I can feel his ribs and vertebrae. I pointed this out to the shelter but they said he was ok. He had only recently landed at the shelter.
I am suspecting that he may have had tummy problems for a while and was dumped by his previous owners because of it.
Appointment later.
Any more ideas are welcome, these are all really helpful, thank you so much.

When was he last wormed?

It could be the stress of moving.

Do you have his full vet records from the rescue centre?

AppleButter · 20/10/2021 10:54

He was wormed at the shelter when he arrived a few weeks ago.

Cats often get upset stomachs when they're stressed but if he's vomiting regularly then obviously you need to keep up the vet appointments.

We had endless issues with my cat's stomach and the vet suggested synbiotic d-c capsules. They can be opened and sprinkled on food and have worked wonders for us. If he isn't eating though then you'd need to try to get him to swallow a capsule... I'm not suggesting you do this without checking with the vet first though of course.

It's so stressful isn't it. Fingers crossed for a quick recovery, he's a beauty.

Sunshine2468 · 20/10/2021 15:08

Let us know how you both get on OP.

AppleButter · 20/10/2021 16:13

Thanks everyone, had a stressful day at the vets - they did a detailed scan and found no objects or anything stuck. They said he has gastroenteritis and something wrong in his intestines. So he is on a drip, getting hydrated, next will be blood and stool checks, and other tests.
I adore him. But feel so sad and so completely traumatised, for him to just have come to us and then to get so ill is very wrong, it feels as if he shouldn’t be with us. I took him to the vets after the second vomiting, I didn’t wait and didn’t hesitate, but I still feel so guilty.
Will update when we have a diagnosis.

I am really questioning whether I should have chosen him, superstition perhaps, but it is so odd snd awful that he came to us and then ended up on a drip. It is so traumatic for all of us and him. We already have a cat, kept separate so far, and she is fine. Had the same food and is in the same house. Thankfully.

Pudmyboy · 20/10/2021 19:02

Hand holdingFlowers, I hope it is all just stress and he feels better soon.

AppleButter · 20/10/2021 19:03

Thanks @Pudmyboy we adore him and are waiting for him.

We got a rescue cat that arrived with vomiting problems, she ended up having gastrointestinal problems but now seems to be okay although she’s always been a vomiter and mostly now I accept that. Small portions of plain chicken ( I mean tiny) little and often. Adult cats can go a while not eating properly so don’t panic too much. If using litter tray for wees, that’s good. I hope vets find out what’s wrong. Or sometimes scrambled eggs can help but again, tiny portions.

Elzbells · 20/10/2021 19:07

My old cat had this, he had colitis.

He was on a drip and given steroids for 3 days and came home on tablets and an appetite stimulant. He also had a diet of special gastro vet food for a while.

He's absolutely fine now a year later and has been ever since, back on his regular food etc

Hopefully your cat will recover and it won't reoccur.

Hopeisallineed · 20/10/2021 19:08

Meant to add, hand holding too. Just think how lucky that cat is to have you and that you care enough to sort it out. 💕

AppleButter · 20/10/2021 20:40

2 new happy endings, that is really good to hear right now.
Shocking that he got dehydrated within a day and a bit. Hopefully he will be better, and come home, we can deal with special diets and medications.
I would be worried if (months later) he went out and ate a mouse, whether it would trigger another bout of d&v or hopefully his stomach would be a bit better. And if he goes around charming the neighbours for food, that would also make him ill.

OP posts:
Elzbells · 20/10/2021 21:44

Yes, it's so quick. I called the vet as my cat had vomited weird bile and just seemed listliss. Thought he would get some anti sickness and come home. Instead he was in hospital for 3 days!

TheSpottedZebra · 20/10/2021 21:53

One of my cats pukes to yellow bile every now and then, and gets loose stools too. Was very ill with it once. He's otherwise very well and we have no other explanation than allergies/intolerances. It seems he can't eat wheat. In practice we don't let him have ANYTHING other then his wet and dry food, apart from if he gets sick then he switches to boiled white fish (bleugh). But still, he begs for anything and everything.

I hope your boy gets well soon and that his issue is as benign and as easy to manage as this.
