Ginger kitten

My youngest [preteen] been anxious lately and overthinking etc. [For another thread...].
One of his desires is a kitten. We have put it off as there is an elderly cat next door that uses our garden, messy house, reluctant husband- anything really!
Then, a colleague sent picture of her 3 week old kittens. 1 ginger one left...
We have booked it.
Right- need to declutter house?
Keep inside for winter then introduce to back garden maybe?
Tell neighbours when know definitely happening?
Book into local vets etc for vaccinations and neutering if a boy [they are not sure yet].
Visit cat!
Panic!

Thank you all.
Love pictures!
Also, really appreciate the advice, practical and financial.
Will look into animal friends insurance. Looked at the local vet and pet plans feature...
Even reluctant husband getting bit excited now! Teenager in kitten house knows my eldest and been sending pictures and videos.

@lljkk and @TheLongRider

Beautiful pics - so sweet

lljkk · 28/09/2021 07:43

Thanks for the pic, LongRider. Right now my 15 week old girls are titchy compared to our adult cat (he's < 4kg, not huge, either). He's yowling & hissing at them still, but then walks off in a huff. Hoping they drop off face of Earth, no doubt. The girls will cope better with Old Man when they are bigger themselves. One kitten is feisty, mind, has hissed back so far.

TheLongRider · 28/09/2021 10:40

@lljkk Our older cats weren't impressed when we brought him home. At the time our youngest cat was a total diva, he stomped around the house, meowed at us and growled at the kitten who just avoided him politely. After four days he realised the kitten was playful and they've been best buddies ever since.

One of the litter has died....
Others seem ok and being watched carefully. Don't know reason. Offered money if needed for vets etc.
Told ds as otherwise may hear through pre teen/ teenage grapevine.
Very sad...

That’s really worrying - and unusual if it was a straightforward birth. Did the person you’re buying the kitten from say what happened? Was it a disease the others might have? What has the vet said?

I’d be wanting some answers before I fully committed.

Pemmican · 29/09/2021 04:43

Why on earth would you be offering money for the vet? The colleague who bred from her pet cat to get kittens for 'donations' should surely be paying her own vets bills?

DinkyDaisy · 29/09/2021 05:57

Harsh Pemmican.
They are a nice family and not cat breeders and not particularly flush with money.

If something happens to kitten we are supposed to be having will be much more careful with when I tell my youngest if considering another.
Part of the reason for having a cat was for him to have a positive focus.
I have learnt a lesson and just hope things go well knowing that they might not.

The idea that it's decided who the cat belongs to makes me laugh. Cats decide who their favourite human is and that's that.

Lol mine is currently snuggled in to me with her head on my shoulder and purring in my ear, but if my dad was here I know she would be ignoring me and and sleeping on him.

OP, you are as green as grass.

How will they pay the vet bills if they haven’t got enough money? Did they even consult a vet about the kitten who subsequently died?

OP, I wouldn’t touch this set-up with a barge pole.

DinkyDaisy · 14/11/2021 11:27

Update:
He is with us.
He is healthy [checked by the vet and very playful and lovely].
We are in love!

This cat will soon win all of your hearts and take over the entire house. It doesn't care if your house is untidy but smells like rotting bins etc do upset them as they have incredibly sensitive noses.

AlfonsoTheUnrepentant · 14/11/2021 11:47

Huzzah! We need photos, @DinkyDaisy. It's The Law.

lljkk · 14/11/2021 11:47

Oh lljkk, that photo was heartstopping as my childhood (girl!) ginger cat looked exactly like that, with the rich colouring and the rounded face and white paws. Nicest, gentlest cat I've ever met, as well. She once just once! clawed the back of a chair, and then fled the room in shame.
AlfonsoTheUnrepentant · 14/11/2021 13:16

He is adorable! What's his name?

ChittyChittyBoomBoom · 14/11/2021 14:57

How gorgeous! I’m glad it worked out for you. Enjoy 😊.

We got a cat this year to help with my dd’s mental health and it’s been a joy to see her laughing.

Iamanicepersonreally · 14/11/2021 16:56

Have you had him neutered yet,?

OnceUponAMidnightBeery · 14/11/2021 17:08

He’s gorgeous! What’s his name and how old is he now? Also, more pics please Grin I’m not currently owned by a cat so these threads are my happy place Blush

DinkyDaisy · 14/11/2021 17:47

He is 10 weeks old so not neutered yet.
He is such a good boy. Using his litter tray, eating well, purring like a motorbike!
