Taken in a stray...what to do?

This morning I found a very matted and hungry tabby cat hanging around the food bank where I volunteer. The vets aren't open today so I can't take her to see if she is chipped. I've brought her home and she's shut in our front room away from our other two girls.

I have managed to cut away a few of the worst matts...one the size of my fist. She's covered in them...all over her...so I'm trying to brush slowly but she's sensitive and reacts if I brush under her chin or by her bum, and I don't want to scare her although she is very friendly.

I've given her a dose of advantage, and a worming tablet crushed up in a lick-e-lix.

I have a vets appointment booked for first thing tomorrow.

Is there anything else I can do today? Feel a bit useless.

No luck with tracing the owner yet. The community centre near where I found her are asking around the local area, and there's been no joy from our local Facebook groups.

She's settled in nicely. My girls aren't thrilled...but we're now at tolerance rather than hostility.

Thank you for the update, really appreciate it

What a lovely thing to do, OP.
It does look like she will become your owner!

No joy tracking down an owner for moggy yet...but in the meantime she is definitely making herself at home.

And looking so cute in her pretty collar! Those whiskers are amazing.

(Has she got a name yet Grin)

She is gorgeous 😍 I hope she’ll stay with you.

Snozzlemaid · 10/09/2021 19:43

Aw bless her. What a sweetie. She just wants to be loved.

greengoose21b · 10/09/2021 19:51

We're not going to be giving her a name until we give up on finding her home. So she's just 'moggy'.

Ah I love a Mog! She looks sassy in a can’t be bothered sort of way 😂😻

BeaucoupFish · 10/09/2021 21:00

Update 😻appreciated xx

BeaucoupFish · 10/09/2021 21:01

She looks like quite a big cat xxx

AngelDelightUk · 10/09/2021 21:13

She’s got her paws firmly under the table!!

Is she still drooling?

TwinklyTits · 10/09/2021 21:22

Oh she,s gorgeous Op

greengoose21b · 10/09/2021 21:29

She's not drooling as much, but it is still noticeable.

She is quite a big cat I think...but also currently a skinny Minnie, and knobbly to stroke...she's still got so many mats on her underside, neck, legs and tail, and you can feel every one of her vertebrae. But she loves a tickle on the top of her head.

@greengoose21b
how is Marilyn settling in OP
Any luck with locating owner yet
Update photo would be a bonus 😻

violetbunny · 14/09/2021 21:08

If she's quite skinny, a bit of tinned kitten food would probably help her to regain the weight a bit faster. It's what the vet suggested to me after my cat went missing for 2 weeks and was looking pretty skeletal when I found him.

greengoose21b · 14/09/2021 22:11

I've found her owner, who was overjoyed to see her, and so she's gone back. She'd been about quarter of a mile from home, and gone for a few weeks. Hopefully she'll stay a bit closer in future!

That’s lovely news. Is she very old?.

viques · 14/09/2021 22:37

Oh that’s a very happy ending. It was clear she was used to a family and great that she is back with them. Was she pleased to see them? I bet your own cats are relieved.

greengoose21b · 14/09/2021 22:42

Eighteen. So yep, very old. My next door neighbour called round earlier to let me know that one of my girls had been for a sleepover at her house last night...made herself comfortable in an unused bedroom....so yes, I think they will be relieved.

Hopefully she’ll stay in for the winter & your cats can stop interviewing new owners.

Cats are brutal.

Beamur · 14/09/2021 22:50

Ah that's lovely that you found her owner!

EachandEveryone · 14/09/2021 23:01

How lovely what did they say about her coat?

IntermittentParps · 15/09/2021 09:10

Oh, how nice, OP!

EachandEveryone, I imagine her coat was unkempt as she'd been 'living rough' for a few weeks by the sound of it.

VirgilStarkwell · 15/09/2021 10:13

Oh hurrah! What a kind person you are. I hope her owner gets her chipped and the treatment she needs.
