Taken in a stray...what to do?

This morning I found a very matted and hungry tabby cat hanging around the food bank where I volunteer. The vets aren't open today so I can't take her to see if she is chipped. I've brought her home and she's shut in our front room away from our other two girls.

I have managed to cut away a few of the worst matts...one the size of my fist. She's covered in them...all over her...so I'm trying to brush slowly but she's sensitive and reacts if I brush under her chin or by her bum, and I don't want to scare her although she is very friendly.

I've given her a dose of advantage, and a worming tablet crushed up in a lick-e-lix.

I have a vets appointment booked for first thing tomorrow.

Is there anything else I can do today? Feel a bit useless.

I just want to say I wish there were more people like you.💐

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 05/09/2021 18:29

Oh God what a state she's in,that definitely not a Six Dinner Sid Sad

I think they get to a point where they can't keep up with grooming. I agree the vet wil probably do it under sedation.

I bet she loved the Lick e Lix!!

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 05/09/2021 18:31

Poor little thing. She's lucky you found her ! Hope every thing goes well at the vets tomorrow

violetbunny · 05/09/2021 18:32

Nothing helpful to suggest, but thank you for doing this Thanks

BeaucoupFish · 05/09/2021 18:33

I wonder how she ended up on the streets, it’s so sad
Lucky she met green goose
Hope all goes well at vet and looking forward to update

BridgetInHerBravery · 05/09/2021 19:12

Oh bless her, she does look like she's had a tough time of it.

Bipbopboo66 · 05/09/2021 21:19

My rescue boy drooled all over us for a few months. I was worried that something was wrong wi th his teeth /mouth.
Vet examination showed nothing.
He doesnt do it now.
I theorise that it was excessive joy that he was being looked after, stroked, fed and loved when he needed it.
He's got use to the high life now and treats us as the slaves we should beSmile

TheSpottedZebra · 05/09/2021 21:22

Poor thing. And lovely OP!

How are your other cats reacting to her in the house?

Esmereldashome · 05/09/2021 21:27

Poor wee thing, she looks like she's been on the streets a while. Thank goodness she found you. Best of luck for her vets visit tomorrow. She's a looker alright x

Older cat, drooling equals renal failure.

thecatneuterer · 05/09/2021 22:12

@Tootsey11

Older cat, drooling equals renal failure.
or, more likely, being in need of dental work, or having mouth ulcers from calici virus, or just being really happy to be stroked ...
WinTheNight · 05/09/2021 22:19

Just wanted to say that you are lovely for looking after her. Look forward to the update tomorrow.

eurochick · 05/09/2021 22:20

Aw. Poor thing. I hope you can keep her and give her a lovely home.

Longdistance · 05/09/2021 22:21

Aww, you’re a good soul.
I’d say she may have an eye infection and maybe some teeth missing. Possibly an old kitty.

WinTheNight · 06/09/2021 13:49

Did you take her to the vet OP? Just wondering how she is?

viques · 06/09/2021 13:52

Just strolling by enjoying the sun , holding a pack of celebratory dreamies, hoping for good news.

lovescats3 · 06/09/2021 13:56

Ditto here, been checking in throughout the day! Cautiously hoping all will be ok....

BeaucoupFish · 06/09/2021 19:11

@greengoose21b
Sorry to bother you but have you an update about the vets visit please

Hippopotas · 06/09/2021 20:32

Hoping the stray is ok.

SolitaryTree · 06/09/2021 20:36

How did it go?

greengoose21b · 06/09/2021 20:40

Hello, so sorry for the late response. I couldn't get an appointment until lunchtime so my son had to take her while I was at work.

The vet have said she's an old lady and not chipped. They've said we need to try and track her owner down but if no joy in seven days we can assume we won't find her owner and we can look at getting some treatment for her. I'm a bit confused about that...sounds like they won't do anything unless they know who's paying the bill.

Anyway, I'm just home from work and she's much more cheerful tonight. That's what a day of plentiful food and a warm bed will do.

Taken in a stray...what to do?

Have you tried FB missing cat groups for your area? There's a lot of success in my area in reuniting cats with owners.

I'm glad she seems happier today.
