Suggest a name for a boy cat

We're so so excited to be picking up a new kitten in a few days but we're stuck on a name. The shortlist so far is Linus, Ralph, Rufus and Earl. I was pretty set on Earl until DH pointed out that it's a bit jarring to call it out loud. At the risk of ending up with more choices instead of an answer, any ideas?

Are you bringing them both home? I love Earl and Hank too.

MilduraS · 27/07/2021 12:03

Only one coming home but the breeder is in the individual pictures so I couldn't use them.

LOVE the name Hank!

Oh he's a Ralph. No doubt.

He's gorgeous

Definitely a Ralphie!

Look at those fluffy ears!

But that stare… he’s going to be in charge of the whole house!

Ralph

Think about what "nickname" he'll have. Hank would end up as Hanky - Snotty Hanky - Snotty - Snot Bag... etc.

Rufus would come out as Roofy which you definitely want to avoid.

I think he's a Ralphie-Walphie!

pantherrose · 27/07/2021 12:35

Looks like a Claude ( or Clawed...) to me!
From your list OP I like Rufus.

You are so right about roofie 🤣 All of my cats have ended up with nicknames though probably used 50:50 with their actual names.

Oh! I'm looking for a maine coon and was thinking of going to see that litter, they are gorgeous. Can I PM you?

Rufus was my first name thought when I saw them Grin He looks like Ralph, pronounced Rafe.

TBH, you know whatever you call him, he will probably end up with some totally unrelated daft nickname like Mr Chops, Stinkles or Pootsie.

iklboo · 27/07/2021 14:05

Our two only answer to their nicknames. Well, them and 'lunch / teatime / sweeties' Grin

ahoyshipmates · 27/07/2021 14:06

Errol?

Theoldwoman · 27/07/2021 14:22

Our (old) boy is Gordon. We love his name!

MilduraS · 27/07/2021 14:38

I think the problem with naming a male cat is that there are too many brilliant old man names to choose from. We've only had girls before and it was much harder to find a name we liked at all! This new one will be joining our remaining cat Flo (Florence/Bear/Flo-bear/screech/Meg/twatface/my love). She was the middle cat of three and is a bit (very) needy now she's alone.

I quite like Gordon. The breeder has named him Mr Grumpy for now so it might suit his personalityGrin

@chesirecat99 You're welcome to PM.

I think he's clearly a Maurice. Little mo.

wineymummy · 27/07/2021 14:46

Lionel

RosesAndHellebores · 27/07/2021 14:47

His face has an air of Daniel Day-Lewis or Charles Dance about it. Forsyte for the former; Merrick for the latter. Their characters from the Forsyte saga and Jewel in the Crown. Both played utter bastards though! That picture has brightened my day and now I must get back to work.

user1471548941 · 27/07/2021 18:04

Our giant ginger boy is Flynn (named by the RSPCA not us!) but I think it’s a cool cat name… mind you his nickname is “baby” because he’s a massive softie who likes being carried about like a baby….

I also love Lionel!

Sewaccidentprone · 27/07/2021 18:07

Alan or Colin

3ormorecharacters · 27/07/2021 18:09

Such a handsome fella!

I had a boy cat called Boy 😂 not very imaginative but I liked it and it suited him. He was a no nonsense kind of cat. And a Very Good Boy.

Hellocatshome · 27/07/2021 18:13

Montgomery nickname Monty
