Cats bring me my mail

Does anyone else's cats do this?
If it's a letter or parcel small enough, they will pick it up and carry it through the house to wherever I am.

I thought they were just considerate geniuses until my fiance pointed out that their treats get delivered from Amazon in a small package and so they are just making sure the parcel gets from point A to point B (the parcel opener) quickly. Haha

Oh this has made my tech-issue-ridden day about a thousand times better, thank you for sharing!

Mine do not do this, sadly, but if you leave certain types of plastic around it's like crack cocaine to my fluffy one. She ate through a pile of plastic folders on my mum's desk when we stayed at Christmas - amazingly she's still here to tell the tale! Here she is, pretending she's normal...

Oh, she is gorgeous! Rather regal-looking actually. One would almost be deceived into thinking she didn't have a plastic addiction hehe

I have a string eater in my house, it's absolutely gross Grin

Ha the string eater sounds... fun?!

I've been eyeing up both my cats for the last hour or so wondering how I could train them to collect my post. And maybe take my outgoing post down to the letterbox too?!

ScottishNewbie · 19/06/2021 00:44

Start ordering treats from Amazon lol. That seems to be how I did it!
They must have just watched me open the parcels and give them treats immediately so many times. The outgoing post would be pure genius! Keep me updated!

Tbf they will also bring me food pouches if I sleep late and they're hungry...if I still don't get up, they will slice it open with their claws so the juices come out (barf).

I've started locking their food up Smile

That's adorable!! Wish mine did that. I also had a plastic eater. I used to chase her round the house, so I could extract a very soggy chocolate wrapper from her mouth. Confused

sashh · 19/06/2021 06:38

That's the cutest.

I've never had a cat do this, but I had one teach herself to use the toilet.

swapsicles · 19/06/2021 06:54

Aww, mine run to the door when the postie arrives, always come back empty pawed though!
They are always interested in big parcels though as I used to order from zooplus and often added a toy or treats to make up the order value.

justthecat · 19/06/2021 07:04

The only thing mine brings me is dead mice which she proudly leaves at the side of my bed!

HeronLanyon · 19/06/2021 07:49

No! That is amazing. Had one once who would do obstacles courses then come fir a cuddle then go round again. Over and over. Normal otherwise. Looked like dog agility. Rip Billy.

I love that photo op ! What a star !

M0rT · 19/06/2021 08:00

That is so cute!!
My puppy loves getting the post but she runs off to hide with it and eat it as paper is her addiction....so I rely on the dog telling tales to let me know she has got something Grin

AlfonsoTheMango · 19/06/2021 08:05

What clever cats you have, OP! I am envious.

Hemskis · 19/06/2021 08:45

My first cat who was called Hemingway but affectionately known as Hemskis used to wait by the door for the post and then grab it through the slot before the postman had even let go. I usually had all post stamped with holes from his fangs and claws! He also played fetch!

TheBalletCats · 19/06/2021 08:57

Blond!cat always runs to check what’s come through the letterbox; sadly has yet to start bringing me what he finds, despite his fondness for playing fetch.

Both cats are absolute menaces where any kind of plastic bag or packaging is concerned. Sometimes the wee horrors are just after licking &/or chewing it because apparently it’s delicious; but they’ve also been known to chomp their way into Things Left Foolishly Unattended. Because they heap scorn on the idea they are obligate carnivores, emphasising their derision by stealing - & gromphling - as much vegan food as they can get their little paws on...

Bourbona · 19/06/2021 09:03

My cats love plastic too. It's weird. They really love the glue on plastic postal bags too!

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 19/06/2021 09:08

My first cat used to love paper...his particular vice was those envelopes with a window in, they made a crinkly noise he could not resist!

If he was bored he would winkle one out from a pile of post and bring it to me to be crumpled up and then we'd play fetch!

Also banknotes...they crinkle nicely too. Not now they're plastic though I guess.

He was a B&W tuxedo cat!

ScottishNewbie · 19/06/2021 10:14

@sashh that's very clever! Saying goodbye to cat litter is the dream!!!

That is too adorable for words!

ScottishNewbie · 19/06/2021 10:18

@justthecat awww he must love you very much to want to feed you lol

My boys have no killer instinct. A tiny bird came through the gap in our sash windows and they sat there staring at for about 5 minutes until I realised what had happened. I picked it up and popped it back out the window and it flew away.

They definitely wouldn't survive in the wild haha

ScottishNewbie · 19/06/2021 10:21

@LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow and @Hemskis

I really would love to play fetch with them but they aren't interested. I think it would be amazing exercise for them.
One of them knows what I want, but will only bring it back for a treat and will stop if the treats go away.

Which totally defeats the purpose of slimming exercise Grin

When I was a youngster, one of my cats was able to open the fridge so we had to put a child lock on it 🙄🤣

Now that really is skill!!! Thank goodness mine can't. They have a sliced ham obsession Grin

Not only can mine open the fridge, but they worked out that the BEST plan is for blond!cat to open it then black!cat to shunt the door back & keep it from closing to allow his brother to explore at leisure, batting out anything that looked/smelled interesting. So we’ve a lock on the fridge, as well as the cupboards (those they sussed as wee kittens - so small, in fact, that they could get one in using teamwork but they were then stuck, causing much squeaking & banging). When I very first got them (aged 8 weeks) their food was kept in a box on a worktop - took them a few weeks to work out opening that & chomping into the pouches... was just as they were starting to eat all their food at each meal (food supply having previously been a bit erratic) - apparently “you can eat all the food” was taken to mean “you can eat all the food in the house - go big or go, er, have a wee nap in your cosy bed...” Hmm

Apologies for poor photo quality, but attached are photos of blond!cat playing fetch. He likes to use the information leaflets from medication packets (ones from migraine injections seem to be his favourites) but when I’ve rudely emptied my bedroom recycling bin, he’ll use a foil ball (also excellent for batting about).

Oooh he is so sweet! I have such a soft spot for ginger boys.
I just find them to be the funniest, sweetest cats ever. I don't care what anyone says, they 100% have a personality that is unique to gingers.

It sounds like your boys is very similar to mine in regards to food also Grin

TheBalletCats · 19/06/2021 16:56

Ah, yours is gorgeous too - & I know what you mean about ginger cats: they’re such bundles of human-centred quirkiness & mischief. My cats are littermate [half*-]brothers & have absolutely distinct personalities. Poor black!cat remains terrified of strangers, but continues to see it as his responsibility to ensure my safety - to the point he distinguished himself when I first had an NJ tube by coming yowling into the room, doing a wall-of-death style loop & then leaping up to perch on the top of the door, yowling disconsolately until the dietitian & nurses had left. In fairness to him, the Nutritia nurse had tried to aspirate my NJ tube, which you’re not meant to do & was flipping painful...

They do both love to snuggle though...

*so the vet thinks - there were 3 all-black kittens, 2 marmalade & 1 blond; & though mummy cat was a tortie, he thinks that there were in fact 2 daddy cats & 2 wee litters...

I'm another who had to child lock the fridge, found the cat sat on the shelf next to a well nibbled cooked chicken.

...he never did tell us if the light actually went off when the door closed :o
