How much do I sell kittens for?

newcatmoth · 22/05/2021 14:12

I recently rescued a black and white female and it turns out she is pregnant. I'm not sure with how many kittens yet. I have no clue of her breed or the breed of the father of the kittens.

As much as I would love to keep them, I can't and will need to sell them. I want to make sure they are going to good homes.

What is the usual selling point for kittens of this type?

Also females should not be spayed as kittens! The vet told me this.

DeathMetalMum · 22/05/2021 16:48

Speak to a rescue. They will help you with ensuring the are vaccinated, microchipped. They will also make sure they are going to homes that will get them spayed and neutered - usually giving them a voucher. Or getting this done before they leave.

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 22/05/2021 16:48

I got my recent ones off people I know in face book

Mumdiva99 · 22/05/2021 16:55

We got ours from someone I knew 11 months ago. We covered the cost of fleaing, chipping, worming and the vaccination. She didn't want any money so we gave her a restaurant voucher as a thank you.

Do any close friends or family want the kittens? My latest kitten was from an old school friend who was in your position. Her cat only ended up having 2 kittens, so I had one and her sister had the other.

They can be spayed after 6 months.
GeorgiaGirl52 · 22/05/2021 17:13

If you plan to DIY, then be sure not to place them in homes with snakes. Our small local rescue had a problem with people taking free or cheap kittens to be used as food for their boa constrictors. They would remove the kittens' claws with pliers and drop him in the tank as "live food".

tomatoplantproject · 22/05/2021 17:48

I have 2 kittens from a remarkably similar situation, arranged by one of the nurses at my vets. They were free but I dropped off a ton of kitten food for when they started weaning and paid the vets bills so she wasn't out of pocket.

@mermaidsariel find a new vet!

This sounds as unlikely as the kittens used for dog fights.

As someone confirmed above, not under six months. They are not sexually mature enough.

DarcyLewis · 22/05/2021 20:21

You can spay at 4 months.

spidermomma · 22/05/2021 20:35

Yea definitely don't give them away as any one could have them and miss treat them

I'd say stowaway £100 so you know who they go to can care for them and also quizz them and do video calls to show them the cats then you can have a good idea on the new home ??

SakuraEdenSwan1 · 22/05/2021 20:52

I enquired about 2 kittens a couple of weeks ago from a rescue centre and have heard nothing despite the kittens still being there.

How do you know they’re still there? Are you sure they got your measages?

Most rescues round here have a wait list at the minute, kittens stay in rescue or foster until they’re old enough to go to new homes, often after vaccination/spay etc.

Wolfiefan · 22/05/2021 21:43

@mermaidsariel not true.

I work for a rescue. In your situation I would either contact a rescue and ask them to help you to rehome- we carefully screen new owners. We do a home direct scheme where you could home via direct from your home but you would have to commit to giving then the same level of vet careas us- vet check, flea, worm, vaccinated microchip. Oryoucouldhometjem yourself forthe same price as rescuesdo- currently around £100 per kitten to deter less responsible homes. However, the biggest problem we seeispeopleselling too young and not providing vet checks and vaccinations and then owners hand in to us when kittens are poorly. My other concern would be as mentioned by another poster thatwithmum and dad being strays you run the risk of one of them carrying fiv. We blood test any cat coming in as a stray, especially if pregnant or with kittens to make sure that they are clear. Please feel free to pm me.

pumpkinpie5 · 22/05/2021 22:22

I would rehome at no younger than 9 weeks so that they get proper socialised with mum and litter mates too.

OllyBJolly · 22/05/2021 22:30

I took in a pregnant cat - unknowingly! The Cat Protection League gave me the names of people looking for kittens and they donated to the CPL in return. (One did complain that she’d been told that her two kittens were all black and one had tiny white socks.) The CPL offered to contribute to the cat being spayed but I’d already arranged it. Not long after, the cat abandoned us and moved in with someone else.

I’d insist on a donation to CPL or PDSA rather than seek financial gain for adopted cats.

This is absolute tosh, and you need to find a new vet. Kittens can be spayed/neutered from as little as 2 months or 2lbs. There is no significant advantage for cats to reach 'sexual maturity' at all.
Regularsizedrudy · 22/05/2021 22:34

You “rescued” her privately? You mean you bought a pet.

Runnerduck34 · 22/05/2021 22:58

Surely people wouldn't use kittens for dog bait?!?😮😮
Never heard of that!
Most moggy kittens near us sell from £250-£350.
But I assume they have vet health check and possibly first vaccine.
Meet and vet prospective owners, it you have friends or family that would happily take one so much the better but they may not pay you. A cat rescue place would also take them, kittens will be easy to find homes for.

Hellocatshome · 22/05/2021 23:01

£250 for a kitten! Our rescues were about £60/£80 the only kitten we have ever bought was £20 and that was only about 5 years ago!

No I'm not, I'm not going to get much from moggy cats am I? I have contacted a rescue.
